Like the olyroos we are weirdly naive to time wasting tactics

Late in this half we have tried a few crosses but they have been very poor. We do look good going through them but havent finished off some clear chances

Match summary

1st half was scrappy with no clear chances. We concede when a back passes slowly runs under our gks boot. His second howler this tournament. Hope his future is brighter than what we have seen here

Thailand commit to time wasting and parking the bus for the final hour. They defend narrow in  defence which makes it touch for us since we have little threat out wide, cant cross and cant head. In the second half we create a lot of clear cut chances early going through their deep narrow block. But we cant finish them. Thailand get a red card but remarkably the chances dry up

These are 2nd string players but i think most are a league level actually. Hope to see their debuts

The own goal we conceded was reminiscent to Rob Green for England in the 2008 euro qualifiers which England didn’t qualify from.

Very unnecessary and avoidable goal to concede from, it’s a shame because they still played good football and create some good chances which they didn’t take but that’s football.

However it was not close to our best team so it was quite assuring we got good depth for the upcoming qualifiers and tournament for next year to choose from.

It should make for quite a competitive team.

It's one thing when I was coaching kids to look out for. If you find yourselves behind give yourself every chance to reduce the time lost to the point when I had players on the bench warming up across the sideline to prevent time wastage. It worked very well.

Shocking this hasn't been pointed out at this level.

Yeah and you could see their frustration grow as the game went on which in both cases could be why we missed chances. In the olyroos case we had an incredible 60 shots for no goals

Very poor all-around. Players should be up for these games at this level. No excuses.

Malaysia are defending very narrow like thailand with 2 rows of 4. Normally you have 2 players in front of the block of 8 to press the ball. Malaysia have 1 press the players in front of the 8 and another to press beside the 8 and put pressure on the cross

Again seem to be gambling on the fact our crossing and heading is poor so we can cross under limited pressure with only one wide defender

We are up 1 nil at half time

Stream struggling but from what i can gather we were sitting back a bit more after taking the lead and conceded

Crazy how much more organized malaysia are in defence. Its like watching a club side
