Here's how the surface looked for Laos' WC qualifier last month. I wouldn't go as far as calling it an abomination, but it's certainly typical of a challenge thrown up by our competent friends at AFC Headquarters. Anyway, let's hope the temps and humidity stay down. Are they in Laos now? If not, how long will they have to acclimitise? Japs will probably be in the same boat, Philippines will be all set.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Okon has selected 15 players from Hyundai A-League clubs, 4 from PlayStation 4 NPL clubs and 4 overseas-based players. Okon is confident that this group of players are up to the challenge of qualifying for the AFC U-19 Championship. “This is the start of this group’s World Cup journey. “It will be a difficult challenge, especially with Japan in our group. “We have had a number of camps and training matches together and the boys know the type of football we want to play. “The challenge now is to perform under tournament conditions,” concluded Okon. The Young Socceroos will open their campaign against the Philippines on Friday 2 October, then Laos on Sunday 4 October and finally Japan on Tuesday 6 October. Ten group winners and five best second-placed teams will qualify for the AFC U-19 Championships while hosts Bahrain received an automatic qualification (total 16 teams). Is Jamie Gorgovski being scouted for the under 17s?
Apparently he rejected the Macedonian NT call up.

Certainly would be a lot happier with him backing up Taggart than Yeboah. Good chance to start above Taggz.

According to some we should be writing these games off given the "conditions" they'll be facing.

Yes it is a shame that it is not about the football but about the connections the players or in most cases parents have. Players that are playing overseas have been selected for their respective teams based on their ability, lets face it the European countries have enough kids to scout, so if they offer Australian kids an opportunity than you have to believe these OS kids have ability. Why isn't ffa at least contacting them and having a look. Just like Benjamin one of the kids I know who has not heard from FFA is playing regular full games for his European team and above his age group.

The FFA can't afford os calls atm let alone paysomeone to track these kids' progress

Go and get your hair done and your nails painted you little bitch.
This topic is about young players some only 15 who need every bit of encouragement available to progress at the pinnacle of the worlds most competitive sports.
Every time someone comes on here with comments clearly designed to belittle or undermine the achievements of all of our young talent we should all realise the damage this sort of mischief making does to every young player in our sport, those selected for our national teams and those not identified.

I would find it very hard to believe that national team underage players would get selected due to family ties or who they know.

The organisation doesn't have alot of money to put resources into these sorts of things and by the way is it better putting more resources in scouting players for the Socceroos rather than look for players at under 17 level whom are a far away from senior football if they reach this level. Just my two cents worth, but i understand if you have an agenda or just bitter that one of your players didn't get selected so whatever...::roll:

Wooooohhhh everyone, I certainly wasn't undermining any player in the effort they put in when playing football - it is bloody hard work. Each kid should be applauded and encouraged every step of the way. Sorry pulled a double shift yesterday so maybe my remarks weren't written in the best way. If I have offended anyone I sincerely apologize. I will just read posts from now on..Once again sorry.
