ABC wrote:Oregon school shooting: 13 dead, 20 injured in shooting at Umpqua Community College, official confirms
At least 13 people have been killed and another 20 injured at a shooting at a community college in Oregon, an official says.
Oregon's attorney-general said at least 13 people were killed and the gunman had died at the shooting at Umpqua Community College campus in Roseburg.
Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin confirmed that officers exchanged fire with the gunman and also confirmed he died.
"Upon arriving there they located the shooter in one of the buildings. Officers engaged that suspect," he said.
"The shooter threat was neutralised.
Mr Hanlin added later: "The shooter is deceased."
The sheriff declined to confirm the number of killed and injured.
Oregon's state governor Kate Brown confirmed the gunman was 20 years old.
CNN reported that four guns belonging to the shooter were recovered from the scene.
Authorities said the shooting took place in one of the classrooms in the science building.
CNN, citing local officials, said at least 20 people were critically injured, including one woman who was shot in the chest.
"It's less than 20 but I don't have an exact number," said the county commissioners office assistant, who declined to be named.
Douglas County fire marshal Ray Shoufler said firefighters had evacuated 11 injured people from the college but two had died.
He said when firefighters arrived at the scene, police had the shooter in custody.
Mercy Medical Centre in Roseburg said on Facebook that the hospital had received nine patients from the shooting and had been advised that three more were en route. Edited by paladisious: 2/10/2015 08:32:21 AM

I find a lot of Americans believe that guns keep them safe. Sadly, there are so so many recent examples of why guns are a problem in society.
These incidents are terrible. These poor kids will never get over it. There is so much wrong with this world.

This is actually screwed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States#2010s From 2010-2015 125 people have died from School shootings. That is average of 20 deaths per year. From 2000-2009 91 people died from School Shootings. That is an average of 9 deaths per year.

-PB Weight election voting according to education level. Then right wing governments would never get in power & gun ownership subsequently becomes scarce. Edited by Murdoch Rags Ltd: 2/10/2015 10:26:19 AM

For them, to have gun laws was unconceivable. They over-used safety as if having a firearm protected them. The obvious side affect is that during a home invasion, if you have a gun, the chances the assailant has a gun are pretty high also. All guns do is raise the stakes of confrontation. That's even before we talk about accidents and suicides. Gun crime does exist here, sure. I don't know whether you saw on the news the bloke who executed his ex-wife in Maccas on the GC? That Maccas is 4km from my house and I drive past it nearly every day. But when was our last mass shooting?

Apparently the shooter posted on /r9k/ warning everyone in the northwest not to go to school. https://archive.moe/r9k/thread/22785073/Not even surprised, that place is a total cesspit.

Inb4 stupid Texan says: 'Well if the teacher had a gun...."
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Saw a decent point made on twitter before that the debate about gun control was effectively over after Sandy Hook. Once America decided killing children was bearable the debate was over.

Obama and the senate both passed gun control measures and its likely that the house would have as well but leader of the house John Boehner, didn't let it go up for a vote.

That's pretty much the crux of the issue. It doesn't matter if the Democrats have control of the Executive (President and co), the Republican representation in Congress is strong enough to overrule their reforms. Something as big as gun control is not going to happen whilst the Republicans dominate both the Senate and (especially) the House. Something is going to have to drastically change in how the Democrats run campaigns before a President like Obama can really start causing real change.
