What are the most racist parts of Australia? I've only been to three states and the only place in Australia I have ever lived is Melbourne.

I'd be interested to hear how places like Queensland stack up. On the one hand, they have a redneck reputation. But on the other hand, it can be a very multicultural place and I've known some very cultured, educated people from places like Brissy and Cairns who I'd be staggered to find were racist.

I'll get the ball rolling. India. My father's family is from Goa. Some of the racism in India is phenomenal.

Obviously with over a billion people, there's going to be all sorts. What I find curious is that, in some parts, there are Indian people who profoundly dislike other Indians and feel a sense of deep-seeded inferiority to the British. It's exacerbated by the caste system.

I reckon this is the nastiest legacy of British colonialism. It has left, in some parts of the world, profound feelings of inferiority which indigenous people have found difficult to shake off.

Obviously not all, or even most, Indians are racist. Plenty are some of the friendliest, most tolerant people you'll find. I refer to a specific type of racism in some clusters with its origins in British colonialism and the caste system.

Gold Coast is my pick, the epicentre of everything feral in the country.

I remember a few years back that Indian cab drivers were getting bashed in Melbourne. There's also the Cornulla riots. That said probably Victoria or NSW.

These were minor isolated incidents that attracted huge publicity. Why because there was pushback and we dont accept that kind of thing in Sydney. Thats the difference between a place like Perth where casual racism is accepted as normal on a daily basis. This has been exemplified by the behavior of their AFL crowds this season toward players of colour on opposition teams.

Plenty of people in Sydney who are racist. To limit it to one individual place and labelling every single person as racist in that suburb is just plain foolish.

By the way, it's not an invitation to dump on ethnic minorities.

I'm interested in hearing about weird types of racism. So it won't so much be a case of saying you dislike ethnic minorities in Australia. I was more expecting people to say "well I once went to such and such a country and you wouldn't believe it but..."

So, for instance, quite a few of my friends and acquaintances are Italian and know a lot about the language and the culture. A couple of them have told me that a lot of people from the north and south of Italy cannot stand each other. I'm not sure that counts as racism. Although lots in the north are fairer and if they dislike darker Italians, I suppose there could be a racist element. Anyway, I cannot substantiate any of that. My only experience of Italy was 6 fantastic days in Rome, but no doubt others will know more about these things.

No reasonable person believe that all Italians are racist or anything like that.
