More than 1,100 women are tackling online abuse by naming and shaming "trolls" in a Twitter campaign which launched this morning.

Members of a secret Facebook group are tweeting out names of more than 150 men who trolled Clementine Ford — with comments including "go to the bathroom and kill yourself" and "bitches like you are the reason why some men are prone to violence" — after a male Meriton employee was fired for calling her a "slut" online.

The hashtag #EndViolenceAgainstWomen and screenshots of the abuse would also be included.

Within 20 minutes of its launch this morning the hashtag was trending at number one in Australia.

Sydney author and columnist Kerri Sackville is leading the charge against the men she has labelled trolls, saying she is sick of seeing women, particularly those in the media, maliciously threatened with rape and murder online.

"When you abuse one woman you abuse all of us ... I said to my friend there has to be something we can do," Sackville told the ABC.

She was inspired by posts following the Paris attacks that killed 130 people, which tweeted the names of victims one by one.

"It made the victims something other than numbers, something other than statistics," she said.............

Her delicate feelings should not ruin other peoples lives.

But they are not. People's lives are being ruined by their own vile comments. She is just using the forum they did. Turnabout is fair play.

If you are posting threats of violence or abuse in a public forum like social media, you really can't complain if the tables are turned and your own words used against you.

I couldn't imagine this chick working with some of the people I work with. yesterday I got told i was going to get buried by a steel fixer because I made him pull a cage out of a pad footing. Maybe I should tell his employer? What was said on social media was unacceptable and crude. However, his personal life should not affect his professional one if he keeps them separate.

But is this what we've come to? Having to moderate our personal opinions in fear of reprimand at work? I've seriously teed off at numerous companies and people I've worked for/with on social media. Next thing you know, some poor bastard will lose their job because they youtube linked a seriously offensive song like something from a death/black metal band that hurt the delicate feelings of someone. Some of the shit my women friends receive on Social media from random dudes is crossing the line.

Looking past this to the can of worms as its put is fine, but how about we also focus on this issue and not sweep it aside into a 'bigger picture'.

2. Using his real name
3. One click (even just a hover over his name) from his comment would have taken you to his profile page which clearly showed he was an employee of Meriton

He linked his professional life to his personal life and he deserved what he got.

I guess in some circumstances you could be right. But I think this is stretching the parameters.

The real parallel to this situation would be that you pissed off someone they got angry, you messaged them that "you cant wait until the brother hood wipes out jews like you" and then your boss found out and fired you.
