I hear what you are saying, and it is potentially an issue. But I think that the 2 things are qualitatively different.

One is directly abusing a person in a way that, if you ever said it in person, would potentially be grounds for getting arrested.

The real parallel to this situation would be that you pissed off someone they got angry, you messaged them that "you cant wait until the brother hood wipes out jews like you" and then your boss found out and fired you.

Food for thought: On my own facebook page I have liked several band websites. I'm into extreme metal. Lets bring up Slayer because they're well known. They have long been associated with glorifying national socialism (which they deny but that's not the point). Could a similar argument be made that by me liking a band with national socialism ties, could I not also have expressions that reflect poorly on my employer?

I'm no fan of Clementine Ford. I think she gets given far too much oxygen. However the facts are:
1. He posted it on Facebook
2. Using his real name
3. One click (even just a hover over his name) from his comment would have taken you to his profile page which clearly showed he was an employee of Meriton

He linked his professional life to his personal life and he deserved what he got.

Telling someone they deserve to get raped is unacceptable.

What happened to respect and treating people how you wish to be treated?
