In addition to instant video review, the game would also be much improved if yellow cards were automatic for any intentional foul. The quality & spectacle would jump to another level.

Wouldn't say no to sin bins for simulation. Yellow card + 15 mins on the sidelines to watch how you're letting your team down. But tend to agree that sin bins would start to lump the sport with the rugby codes - which is not to say I dislike the rule in those sports, just that I don't think it's very football-ish.

Sounds good to me. When a ref shows a red, why not have a ref on the sideline view all video evidence and determine if and when the player can return to the field? Would cut games being ruined by poor reds. min time off of ten mins duri g which time the video ref can make the call. If a ain bin worked like that then I say Why not? Does not hold up the game

I dont think it would be the main problem. There would probably be more disputes over corners/goal kicks.

I wonder if there is a correlation between people who object to the introduction of video technology for football and the objection to autonomous cars. I'll bet there is.

The car thing has to do with safety.
The football thing has to do with the rules of the game...
and most importantly, the millions to billions spent on bets worldwide for such tournaments as the WC.

LOL - I forgot we need to change the rules to cater for the betting markets out there

The Lampard goal is an easy example.

If you had money for Lampard to score, or the score of the match etc. you would be pissed.
The rules are the ball has to cross the line, which it did. So you would win the bet, however a linesman running down the pitch 50m away decides the outcome. When you have access to the technology.

For me its simple, you bet something would happen, it did, you should get paid.

Or the Janko goal in Wollongong

Im not too upset about the Italain dive these days. Lucas shouldnt have attempted that tackle.

My biggest Australian travesty is Harry Kewell being sent off for the handball. Perhaps on another day he would stay on. Its not actually that that pisses me off. Its that Luis Suarez does a water polo save in the same tournament and gets the same penalty. 1 match ban. All the while they show that grub celebrate on the sideline when Gyan missed.

The "dive" I thought was a penalty. We Australians love to say we was wobbed.

Harry being sent off, these things happen in football. That's part of what makes it football. The final decision right or wrong should be with the referee.

The Suarez handball was punished. Once with a penalty, the second time by being suspended for the semi-final. Of course every player would celebrate that miss.

All those incidents above would still be confirmed with video technology. So I am not sure how they fit in with the topic on this thread.

The Suarez was a red , the same as Kewells. They were both treated as handball in the box.

Perhaps Kewells handball could have been reviewed under replay conditions. There was a chance in my mind it could have been called a non intentional handball. So, penalty and no card. No replay relies on the refs eagle vision.

To be fair to the referee, the handball decision given to Kewell, I have seen those given and not given. Even if you were to go back and use technology there would still be controversy no matter what the ultimate decision was.

This has nothing to do with Europe, sin bins are simply idiotic.

I don't have a particular problem with video replays assuming they don't impact the flow of the game, but if it were up to me I'd rather keep things as is.

FIFA should stop meddling with the rules of the game. It's the off-field aspect of football that demands reform, not on-field.

No, sin bins would be bad.

One thing that I dont like it that the other team can injure your player and you have to go off. I think it would be better if the tackler had to at least go off too, then come back on. This is also problematic however.
