Yep, heard many stories similar, idk why so many assume that. someone today actually thought when i refered to his reputation, i was going for that chilled, cheeky angle.

What does annoy me though is feminists acting like the is a male only problem. Some of the videos surfacing of women journos hassling blokes are showing how hypocritical people can be.

Ok, I'll give it a try -

Do people seriously not get why gender matters here? Female journalists face a much more difficult time making a career than their male counterparts. Being taken seriously is a real impediment and stunts like this only undermine that.

Mel is an attractive woman; she's also very good at her job. Shit like this reinforces the obviously wrong idea that she's there as 'eye candy' when she's actually there because she is a good sports journalist.

If the same thing happens with a male journalist it's obviously unprofessional - but it's unlikely to reinforce any prejudices against men. An incident like this, however minor, makes it that much harder for the next female journalist to win the respect of her colleagues and audiences.

I was watching Sky news last night and the bloke commentators said the same, making light of it and saying something along the lines of "no one called me beautiful during an interview". Light hearted yes, but also on target.



This is the problem though. Hundreds of people are posting videos on FB of a Sunrise reporter hassling some muscly bloke on the beach in Sydney. Everyone sees it as a bit of fun. Yet if it was a male reporter doing the same thing to an attractive female, feminists the world over would be having kittens. You can't have gender equality if you want to maintain a different reaction to similar events and then hide behind words like privilege or prejudice. It's rubbish.

There also videos on football FB pages showing I think it was Hilosko from Sydney winning man of the match and then giving the female reporter a kiss on the cheek and absolutely nothing was made of it. Where is the public outcry there, the bloke actually kissed the female reporter! Where is the consistency?

I think this is utter bullshit. The media is stacked with beautiful female presenters, there are even entire shows dedicated to women with all female presenters. Sex sells, the producers know this hence their preference for hiring beautiful women, in many cases over plain looking but skilled men and less attractive women. All people face prejudice, discrimination and rejection in the work-place, minorities and groups who've historically been disadvantaged perhaps are being opportunistic in blaming their lack of career progression on racism, sexism etc rather than accepting the possibility they are simply undeserving of it. it's always easier to blame someone else than take responsibly yourself.

I'm fascinated by women who've risen to the top of their professions, e.g. Julia Gillard, Kristen Stewart etc and then whinge about lack of progress for women.

Saying that, Rebecca Wilson probably doesn't like people who have a skin colour darker than that of your typical English/Western European skin tone. Thus, she wouldn't associate herself with people like Chris Gayle.

The oz was ok it was one of th3 best news corp papers until it became too right wing . Its a parody of its former self

A paper is trash because of the quality of its articles/cartoons and not its ideological viewpoint.

The Australian comes out with decent stuff, and the Hun is a rag even if it shares a common ideology with the the Oz.
