Hi.
Instead of beating each other up as a football community, how about we help each other out? Does this joint need a jobs thread, where posters looking for work, or employers looking for staff, post here so that 'our own (I.e. the football family) look after each other?

Any comments?

The only people without jobs are Wanderers fans, and they don't want jobs that nobody would offer them.

Just post genetic info on the thread, then posters can interact via PM.

Serious question, but does anyone know who to approach for a doctor's apprenticeship? I went back to TAFE to get my year 11 and 12 done recently but it didn't give me too many options, so I'll still looking for an apprenticeship, but it's really hard without knowing people in the industry. A lawyer apprentinceship would be okay, but I would prefer doctor.

Growing up we used to get big family pies on the way back from the coast. They were good. I had one last year when I was in Australia, but cant remember. I eat about 1 pie every two days(sausage rolls also) as pies are not available where I live.
You could probably find a better pie though. I think I had a curry chicken pie, I finished it.

For the non-Qlders it is pronounced Yatla not "Ya-tahla"

Next time I'm heading down the M1 I may make the detour. And SA people know how to pronounce it though our Yatala is a bit more infamous

How do you mean an apprenticeship for a doctor or a lawyer?

Wouldn't the closest equivalent be med students doing rounds or law students doing internships at a firm?

Brother and I were managers at EB and I worked at JB for a few years when we were youngens. Both are pretty cushy jobs with lots of benefits in terms of free/cheap shit. I'd definitely recommend applying for both. They will 99% do a group activity interview in the case of EB so be prepared for that if you get to the interview stage.

Definitely apply for both of them though, they are both a great experience.

I hate dealing with JB Hifi. Had to take a tv back for repair yesterday as it was under warranty and the bloke who took care of it clearly just wanted to walk around and do sweet FA instead of his job.

There doesn't appear to be any job vacancies for EB Games in SA and there are only two full time vacancies in SA for JB.

Anyone got an experiences with working for the likes of JB HIFI and EB Games?

Oh mate they're fucked now, haha. They give out ridiculous discounts if you are unhappy or are thinking of complaining though. I'm talking over 50%-60%. For a place that wants people to feel "at home" they do it pretty well in terms of "everyone is a teenager so nobody do shit".

Nah I don't complain unless something is seriously wrong. The bloke got it done in the end, I could just tell he didn't want to be there.

Depends on the person like all stores I guess. I've been in there once and had 5 people ask to help between the door and 5m from the door. I bought a new tv Saturday and stood around for 20 mins before a staffer even came near me. Luck of the draw.

Would be cool to work there though, pretty relaxed environment.

Wrong time of year as a casual you want to be looking closer to the peak periods.

I'm guessing that's because not only would there be more openings, but I'd get paid more for working during holidays.

Is anybody here involved in (or connected with) publishing/editing in Melbourne? It can be for a company, a newspaper, something online, whatever.

Final year uni student doing an English major.

I'm looking to do some kind of internship somewhere. It could probably only be one day per week. Two days in weeks when I'm on track for everything. And I can be in a lot more for uni holidays.

Ideally a paid internship (I don't wish to sound stingy but literally any time spent making money is invaluable for students). But even if that's not feasible, I'm open to ideas.

Someone smarter than me, please help answer some questions..

Just say I want to do some work on the side. Moonlight if you will. But I'd need to invoice companies as part of my work. What's the deal with starting your own little business? Do I get an ABN in my name, or do I get a ABN and make a business name, how does tax play into it all when I've already got a fulltime job in another industry altogether? I am so confused, but assume there's plenty of people here who have done similar and know how to roll with it.

You probably want to set yourself up as a sole trader. Read up on the different business structures at the ATO or get some advice from an accountant.

Not secret at all, just outside of my current FT work schedule and mostly at night.

Chances are I'd need to buy things every now & then for it, there's a potential I'd need to employ someone at some stage or at the least shoot them cash in hand for work done, etc.

I try to avoid accountants at all costs  so if anyone has dealt with similar in their own lives, a brief laymans terms rundown would be hugely appreciated!

For reference, I'd probably be in that bracket of earning less than $20k a year by doing this.

I'm not an accountant but my wife freelances so I have some experience with this. For the time being, while you're working by yourself I'd run it as a sole trader as it's simple. If you're going to earn less than $80k a year then you don't need to register for GST which means no quarterly BAS statements, just need to do a tax return at the end of the year and declare your income through your ABN. The down side to this structure is that it's treated as your income so things that you buy for your business are just tax deductions. The upside is that it's free to set up and very minimal reporting.

This is under the assumption that you're providing a service to someone (which classifies as personal services income), I think there are different rules if you were selling products or something similar. I have no idea on that.

Surely some people here are accountants and could probably fix a bit (or a lot) of what I wrote but that link I provided to the ATO is pretty comprehensive.

Yep. ABN working as yourself sounds best.

GST is extra paperwork but may be worth if

1. The Customer is GST registered (so can claim back the 10% you put on top) AND
2. You have to buy materials (G-Strings, cowboy costumes, fuel etc) that have GST that you can then claim back

If you're just suppling your labour (full Monty) stay GST free and keep it simple

Careful with 'regular hours' as that may mean they should be employing you and all the stuff that goes with it.
You're not covered by WorkCover or getting Super and Casual Loading .
