Australia's national team played its first international in 1922.

Let me know when aussie fools has a national team. Maybe you could play South Africa, you blokes were taking the country over 5 years ago, everyone in Melbourne was saying it. All those kids you threw egg balls at should be hitting draft age now, let's sit back and admire the hard work.

It looks like http://www.aflsouthafrica.org official site is out of order for the time being.

Its a game for everyone. Its not pale, male, or stale. It transcends race, gender, economic status. Its for everyone. - Tal Karp

Then a 15k should be the least to expect then. fit inline with what fc usually gets at smaller games. We'll see how many members actually turn up in tonights game.

For right now, it is just to show the running total of FFA memberships.  Wookie keeps updating it all year for the 3 codes.  It isn't for a direct comparison between the codes at any one time really.

Good question MCMH - Oh wow, your question has prompted me to look and I found this even earlier thread about the forum - for those 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. But unfortunately, we couldn't compile much in way of info back then:

http://forum.insidesport.com.au/1140708/Membershipnumbersfor1011and1112seasons

Ah, found this for GCU:
http://www.theroar.com.au/2012/02/15/whats-to-be-done-with-gold-coast-united/
Feb 2012 -
By comparison, Gold Coast United has fewer than 400 members.

There's this too, just in Fury's last days - not so much firm figures, but gives you an idea of where they were striving to be, but were falling short:
www.foxsports.com.au/football/a-league/north-queensland-fury-dropped-from-a-league-after-being-unable-to-front-15million-for-licence/story-e6frf4gl-1226014174045
The FFA set stringent criteria for the Fury to meet to obtain an A-League licence:  the club needed to prove that at least 5000 North Queenslanders would be interested in taking up season tickets or becoming members.

Recent years the revived, NPL-based Fury entity, with Rabieh Krayem as Chariman suggested they have been aiming for 5k members as part of their push to be re-admitted into the A-League at some point: Jan 2014 - http://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a-league/simon-says-plans-being-made-to-reinstate-expansion-north-queensland-fury-into-the-aleague/story-e6frf4gl-1226806412802

2 weeks have gone by since my last update, and the two clubs that have stalled with regards to membership numbers are WSW and Perth Glory (can't see them hitting their target). Big jumps by City, Brisbane and CCM.

We are growing at a rate of 2k per week overall now. And I think we will see a further slow down as the next month or two passes as the season is now getting into full swing. If we are lucky we may hit last seasons total in a fortnight from now but I doubt it unless certain clubs make bigger jumps. Expecting WSW and Sydney to climb a little higher too.

I still think we will probably end up at around 113k-114k overall.

In my honest opinion, next season we must have 8 of the 10 clubs getting 10k members
Victory
WSW
Sydney

Are all locks to get 10k
City are now nearly becoming locks to get 10k
Adelaide are nearly there this season and should aim to break 10k as a base next season
The Jets have done it 2 years ago and should strive for it next season
Brisbane too have done it in the past and as a major city and being the only team should do it,
So too Perth.

The only 2 that probably can't are CCM and Wellington

Won't we have a dodgy 3 membership packs that get thrown around post Christmas and our numbers will be boosted to 125k?

One thing that strikes me is the complete lack of relationship between membership numbers and crowds. There are just so many factors to throw in to influence crowd numbers, that membership numbers are rendered virtually meaningless.
Mariners have more members at present than Brisbane but 20K turned up last night, and there is no way there Mariners will get that sort of crowd at all in the forseeable future.
The biggest blindspot is Sydney FC, who consistently pull in much larger crowds than there membership numbers, possibly due to 3 reasons....1. there is at present no need to secure a sport due to the stadium size, 2. the junior blues (uncounted) free membership and 3. the hidden factor, about 2-3K stadium trust members that turn up each week that would never buy a sydney FC membership as it would be financially pointless to do so but yet are not counted in the tally.

Cost is a factor as well....was it last year or the year before when Jets opened up the $10 membership deal, spiking up dramatically their numbers? It is simply not a level playing field.
