Bit of a doomsday prediction. Not every team will do a Portsmouth

Lets say that Adelaide got relegated. The odds of them coming straight back up would be fairly high. The support could be even greater.

Everyone looking at a pokey prediction. Neglects Rangers, Juve, Boca etc. Not to mention internacional this season went down for the first time in Brazil.

But then one would.still.get relegated and also carry a big.amount of.debt for.the failed attempt in january to try and rectify the problems.on the field. Then the following years the club would go bankrupt and basically cease to exist.
That's the major.risk.of.having pro/rel in a market like ours.

Thats subjective tbf. How they would go about it would be dependent on their backers and their situation with their youth side.

Playing football is always a risk. There's a risk Adelaide will lose members and players.

Great to see the support for the game in Gosford. And a great response from the CCM players. Pity the ref and linesman weren't up to the job!

And Adelaide, the reigning champs who played their fiercest rival. Yes in last place but nothing new to them. Also in a city all theirs with no.competing club.

Hilarious.that people keep picking on Citys crowds in that tall.poppy way because they are now well.funded and trying to.establish themselves as a.bigger.more professional club.

But yea carry on whinge for City. Its actually almost hilarious how much stigma there is around City as if they have won multiple titles and deserve to be hitting high attendances as a given.

Over react much? I thought it was funny that CCM pulled a bigger crowd than city, seems like you are the only one having a whinge

I don't think the City crowd was that bad considering the weather and how they've been playing. It just goes to show you while Cahill has been a nice addition for them - you can't go past a big name European marquee for a bump up in crowds. Villa played there when they were still a rabble and the top tier was open for games against the likes of Newcastle. You just wouldn't get that with Timmy.

BTW South Melb above mentioned Yoshi. It was good to market to HAL season at the start but I don't think it's done literally anything for City. Supporters of clubs don't really buy into these gimmicks. It was more to drum up the hype.

The funny thing is that Melb City get a bigger crowd than the reigning champs playing their fiercest rival and are still given crap, whereas with Adeliade the excuses are somehow warranted? Nup i dont buy it. If the attendance for.city are shit then for.adelaide it must be considered disastrous when u consider that coming back from last place is not out of the ordinary for Adelaide so fans shouldnt be dropping off.at such an alarming rate.

We still average more than City this season, despite City having a home derby crowd against Victory and Tim Cahill in their team. And we're last. And somehow City gets the better crowds. Fair dinkum mate, here's one for you. In the 10/11 season Sydney had a lower average than Central Coast (and almost every team in the league). Central Farkn Coast!!!

1) city have been the face of the league this year/yoshi and most gimmicks have been thrown at them

2) Cahill

3) most exepensive squad in australian football history.

Nobody is suggesting they should be selling out aami park, but being 1 of the 3 teams that can actually win this thing i dont think expecting a few thousand more would be unreasoable.

I wouldnt watch adelaide if they played in my backyard they have lost all goodwill from last years championship

Well for me its hard to attend matches when all bar one starts at 7:50 and you have to travel an hour and a half down the road, for a club that prides itself on its strong family base the fixturing for regional and younger fans has been terrible.

It doesn't even force coaches into a different mindset, it would be awesome to see Amor coaching with the threat of relegation looming on his head. Every single aspect of that club would need tinkering/change from top to bottom to rescue the situation. As it stands the same crap team will be out on the field every week, amor will look like he doesn't give a shit, and the board and fans will continue to hammer eachother for the next few months. But At the end of the day it's all meaningless as Adelaide can just press the reset button at seasons end.

Yeah the whole club would adjust if there was relegation on the cards. From here til the end of the season we'll just be going through the motions

That was a good crowd for Adelaide last night, the team is pure garbage you are subjecting yourself to 90 minutes of torture watching that crap.10,000 though would easily be 15,000 if the team was a threat of being relegated, and you could bet they would be hitting the transfer window hard, you think they would stick it out with that dud guardiola up front if they were a threat for the drop? Holland would be looking for an npl contract as well. Instead Adelaide fans have to watch another few months of this crap without any hope for improved results.

There's lots of comparison going on with the A League at the moment, most of them tend to be negative and involve BBLs ratings and attendance, and soon it'll be comparisons with the AFL again. Let's not pretend we're not a little bit jealous but then let's move on as not all comparisons are poor - aggregate attendances of 1.8 million are higher than Super Rugby and the equivalent top tier competitions in both England and France - in all cases we are comparing with nations that are significantly bigger than ours with sports way more established than we are. The FFA now have it within their power to make all clubs more financially stable through the new tv contract, the next step should be rapid expansion to 16 or even 18 teams. Assuming average attendances stick around the 12.5k mark with any expansion:

16 teams = 3.2 million aggregate
18 teams = 4.1 million aggregate

The increase in revenue into the game would be in the region of $35m-$58m assuming an average ticket of $25/each. The fight for relevance comes in many forms but making our sport more relevant through increased participation plays to our strength, bolt p/r on to that and I think we'd be travelling well.

Accepting the Gyfox position, the question still remains. With the amount of money spent to convert those hard to convince/non football people, it doesn't seem like the FFA are fishing effectively then...
