+xCan mods just ban him for wasting space on these forums? He'll just start posting here with a different account. I looked back through this thread and for the first ~26 pages Pippinu was nowhere to be seen, and that "Mister Football" account was the one posting the usual drivel, and easily the most active bumper on the thread. Then "Mister Football" got banned and soon after Pippinu was here for the first time, posting practically the exact same stuff (AFL ratings, comparisons, and subtle jabs at the A-League's inferiority) and became the most active bumper of the thread. The fact that the "Pippinu" account didn't start posting here until after "Mister Football" got banned is clear evidence that it's exactly the same guy, if that wasn't obvious enough from the fact that they post the exact same garbage each time. There's also a few suspicious sock puppet accounts (Sirocco, Jatz, and Australian Football Dude) that will no doubt see an influx of posts if "Pippinu" gets banned, or he'll create an entirely new account and the cycle will continue. Just let him waste his time and don't reply to him. As others here have already said, he's got issues (possibly some diagnosable mental problems) and he'll continue to post here for as long as it amuses him or he feels compelled to do so, because that's the way he is. Treat him like the lunatic on the streetcorner that spouts out nonsense: just don't acknowledge them and keep on walking.

So the ratings have basically tanked on Fox this weekend. Decent result for SBS and the merseyside derby but not much else to be cheerful about.

Super Rugby got 50k, 44k and 23k yesterday so comparable. Although one comps at the end of it's season with not a lot to play for and the others just started up.

I posted copied below during the week the effect media on ratings... weeks of negative articles do affect crowds and ratings... As as group we must be the most moaning fan base in Australia, maybe we could take the title fr moaning, AP 3-4-3, FFA ineptitude, A-League refs, A-League quality, SBS article on the Brazil tour saying the Argentina and Brazilian players dob't wanta come, At some point we need to start to say whats good ... Like 16 bids to join the league with roughly half with government backing is excellent news .. their are good stories out there.... Super Rugby rating are also tanking and their media is also very negative... Strange as this may seem but positive articles and stories, about an event, increase crowds and ratings of that event... this is what I posted about the Socceroos ratings and the same applies
He passed away roughly 3 years ago, but for many years I had a client who was in charge of statistical analysis and determining future trends and specialised in rating and what drove them in the past and into the future.
He sat on or at the table of all major sports contracts from the early 90’s until his passing.
One day over way to many Hunter Reds & fine food he showed me on his lap top the calculations pertaining to rating and media coverage… and also rating and positive or negative coverage..... they were very very very complex... but they clearly showed the effects of positive promotion an an event. Those ratings are a wow factor… there was very little media leading up to the match, the ABC almost exclusively wrote and banged on about Cricket and the Women’s AFL. 7 & 9 almost ignored it and even 9 who had it hardly promoted it [indicating to me they don’t have the A-League]
Print media and social media has had relentless attack articles on FFA.
So very little media and lots of negative media and we got 434 which included 9 number 3 channel.
IMO Brilliant.
One day our media might understand how important being positive two to three weeks out from these matches is kinda important at least rating wise

I don't disagree with the basic principle of what you've said. However being positive in the current environment is not easy - the FFA continue to mishandle the situation and, like the fan boycotts last season, it is having an effect; you can't blame fans for being negative when the list of people disgruntled people includes commentators, A League clubs, NPL clubs, the two largest state federations, the players union, plus of course many fans .... it's no way to run "a business" and it's incomprehensible to me how the games leaders can perpetuate this. My only conclusion is the only thing that batters ti them is power and control. A typically corporate attitude imo.
However, the viewing figures are comparable to Super Rugby and Netball is picking up 70-80k on FTA so given what our rights sell for, we're not too far off. But anything below 70-75k should be considered low.
And we're at that stage of the season where, ratings and attendance wise, we can say Cahill hasn't worked, selling the big derbies hasnt worked, Yoshi didn't work, the summer of football didn't work ... the ffa were big on "metrics" last year so it's about time for a root and branch review of how we do marketing because it simply is not working.

Waz Below I have posted a post I made on the Roar and I agree FFA have not fully connected yet ... no argument in fact beyond total agreement.... but I ask you to also accept that in 60 years no one has solved it and throwing out one bunch of suits with another bunch of suits will set us back. So mate if the connection bit was simple it would have been done 50 years ago. But we have heaps to be proud if ... and continual negativity hurts and does more damage than the AFL media ever could. This is the Roar post I made ... to a FFA comment I agree on current FFA management… I don’t blame Gallop and senior FFA management staff MO they are doing an excellent job. My reading is FFA is an organisation with a very pro-active board and the board tell FFA senior management [which includes Gallop] what direction to take. My reading of the Tea Leafs is Steven Lowy has been and is out of his depth running an independent and transparent modern day organisation. His background i.e. working for the family business would not have exposed him to reacting to views other than the boards. Stephen Lowy appointment was seen by many as a mistake [myself included] had the look of Frank not wanting to let go…. meaning Stephen had to be a visionary leader to keep the tribes together and create pathways and lead us by commanding respect not demanding respect. Having said all this I respect what FFA have achieved and am not inclined to throw the baby out with the bath water. … I also accept Lowy’s comment Football does not want to loose what it has achieved by reverting to the NSL folk again being in charge. I think Stephen Lowy has lost the room and its allowing many crazy ideas to be put forward and he seems incapable of getting on top of it all. My hope actually I think this will happen… the A-League clubs, PFA, State Association [why do we still have em???] & FFA will work out a way forward for the next few years … as no one wants FIFA stepping in even FIFA. FIFA’s extension to the time table is very clever IMO… first it acknowledges what good work has been done so far and respects we don’t want to loose that, further things right now are a bit tight so give everyone time to work on an acceptable model. My hope after its all agreed is within 3 months that new elections are held for a new head of FFA. Finally I don’t want the A-League clubs running FFA.

The football community as a whole need to take a long hard look at themselves, especially in relation to the Lowy appointment, which quite obviously was nothing other than straight out nepotism, but very few in the football community wanted to call it out for what it was. A handful on this board saw it for what it was, a couple of football journalists (but they fell short of the scathing criticism it deserved), and on the Roar, all the regular contributors were overwhelmingly positive about keeping it in the family, and they all nodded in agreement like the absolute dills that they are.

Midfielder, The time is rapidly approaching for FFA to step away from management of the HAL .They have always had a conflict of interest.Furthermore they are not maximising returns to clubs or the HAL.They don't know how to market and they have become a blockage to growth. It's time to get out of the way. Fear of NSl types is irrelevant,as they don't have HAL clubs and thus are peripheral to discussions and not in a position to take control of the HAL.Their focus is Div2/3 etc. Each HAL club should have representaion on a mangement board of the HAL,along with other interested parties ,bit inproportion to their equity. As part of any new constitution ,there should be regulations to allow for critical criteria for the A-League,including number of teams and promotion/relegation,as well as many other issues. FFA should focus on managing the many other aspects of Football, from the Socceroos and Matildas to grass roots. I fear FFA are now becoming what they sought to defeat in the NSL.Control and sustainability of control supercedes the needs of the greater football community. They are desperate to syphon money from the HAL to sustain their inflated head office expenditure. But when HAL teams are training and developing youth and generating the lions share of revenue, how can FFA justify diverting so much money from the clubs? A new six year deal, has no promise for lower divisions,promotion/relegation,cheaper registration ,better youth development and opportunities or A-League expansion.

Can't agree more with you that FFA need to step away from A-league management ... if I could agree more than 100% I would.. My sole issue is what replaces it and what governance procedures are established do not set us back. Many of the ideas i have read on this forum will not work until we solve the connect to the player base which Johnny Warren identified in 1965 at a Gala Day in Newcastle, and Waz referred to above. IMO this is the single biggest issue we have as solving this will result in revenue streams greater than all other codes. But the answer is far from simple the best brains in over 70 years have not worked it out fully so to assume their is some magic person or system that can do it ... well it will take time. Also Football in Australia has not matured enough in revenue for whatever bodies replaces FFA. The A-League needs to fund things other than themselves. FFA will need additional funding as will the establishment of new divisions as we head towards a two hopefully three / four tier divisions and P & R. It will take, patience endurance, tolerance, stamina, fortitude, an a unflappable believe in our game ...we are in a evolution… wanting something tomorrow will not happen.. There is no doubt as Waz said above a few of us called out the Steven Lowy appointment, and what’s happened the result has been far worst than anyone could have forecast . Lowy’s direction to his senior staff i.e. Gallop and then letting Gallop carry the can is IMO deplorable and shows a lack of character. However just as when FIFA needed to change top officials, few called for FIFA to be disbanded and most recognised most of what FIFA do and many systems and procedures FIFA had established were good. This is how I feel about FFA a lot of what they have done is very good and simply chanting down FFA fails to understand the problem... and when you fail to understand a problem you tend to make the same mistakes. Frank was past it but accepted because of what he had done, his son is not in his fathers league… we need new leadership at board level and new governance procedures. I believe the best way to achieve this without blowing ourselves up is for the major stakeholders to come together and determine a way forward … with FIFA and AFC looking over their shoulder I believe between them they can work it out. After this new elections should be called and I hope but don’t expect for Stephen Lowy to stand down.

+xMidfielder that roar post sounds like you're defending the current management I will have another go. Hopefully this explains my position better. When you work for someone, they say do this, you do it. If what they tell you to do could be done better, you can say to them, have you throught of this , if they say yes but still do it my way. FFA management implement the policy the FFA board sets, and FFA have always had both a very hands on board and very hands on chairman who tell the management of FFA what to do. Gallop reports to the FFA chairman and both Frank and Stephen Lowy have been very hands on directing major policy. Its Gallops job to implement that policy, thats the job of a CEO. Sometimes in mega huge public companies the CEO has a far greater say in what polices to follow. Its hard to blame someone for following instructions... also protecting his board... Gallop could always resign in a blaze of glory and criticise Lowy... and he would never work again in a similar position... We have a big nay huge nay mega, nay massive problem or problems... IMO almost all relate to a chairman from a very private company not used to being questioned and who finds trusting other people in Football difficult... But as I said just because the current chairman is not up to the job, and we need governance changes, and some new systems does not mean 12 years of hard slog has not created a lot that is praiseworthy ... As each week goes by FFA seem hit by a new crisis, and for me Stephen Lowy is incapable of getting on top of it.... after the change we need him and probably Gallop to go ...

BTW this is my opinion some may disagree... but there comes a time when almost relentless anti Football articles have an effect the same as if we had relentless positive articles... its a question of balance ... no one is saying never report issues ... but the Football media have been in a monathom for about two or more years now... Refs A-League quality Stadium issues FFA ineptitude AP's 343 A-League quality Lack of quality players No one playing in top European sides What hurts as well is the non Football media take their leads on Football from the Football media. When in truth and despite all the issues we all know of ... Football today has never had it as good and is FFA is heading for a 140 million dollar revenue tear. We have 16 bids wanting in and over half with some government backing .. AS I see it we need some major change .... but everything is not fucked ... 140 million FFA revenue and 16 bids is a solid foundation to move on ... Let the evolution continue.

Expansion and P&R are worthy objectives, but don't think that increasing the size of the comp, and giving entree to any tin-pot club is going to increase average attendances and ratings. It's illogical for anyone to argue that.

@ puppinu
Average attendance and ratings aren't the be-all and end all of everything, they are for AFL and NRL because that's what they have. But ratings and average attendance is not converting in to participation for those two codes which means, as their fan base ages, they are on a slow death curve unless they can revive participation.
Expansion and p/r are integral values to the football community, it's a basic Tennent - a right if you like or an expectation - that all players and teams should be divided on ability alone and given the chance to be promoted to the next highest level if they're good enough. We need to be more like world football than NRL/AFL because our strength is the huge participation nembers and that is not about eyeballs on an elite, ring fenced competition. That is about participation.
There's too many NRL/AFL experts telling us we need to be like them - we don't, we need to be like football and when we are we will wipe the floor with everything that matters. And the good news is, AFL will survive, so will NRL, and those two codes will realise they were fighting a futile code war that does nothing but alienate certain fans/potential fans.

Midfielder is big nay huge nay mega idiot.
He says - nothing is Gallop's fault, he's just following orders - our poor ratings/crowds are due to mainstream media bias - why does everyone only focuses on the negatives (ok, list the positives from this season).
I feel dumber everytime I read one of his posts.

The ratings and attendances are shit. The sole focus of the FFA over the last 5 years has been to boost ratings and attendances. We have had consolidation, no expansion, no div 2, a rigged FFA cup, the all stars, big games first, concessions, buying a team a player, the October kick off, a modified more exciting top 6 - yet the attendances figures have fallen is the same spot the last 5 seasons (6 if you substitute GCU for WSW) and ratings are the same as seasons before Where is the growth? Where are the fruits of doing things the way we must do them so we can have a huge influx of money and interest? The thing that is evident is football has a core "rain / hail / shine" following and then casual fans who will turn up to 1-2 games a year. 1-2 teams will get a small boost based on success which will be offset by the 1-2 teams that get a small decrease due to failure. The figures are always going to fall the same way The only difference is whether we have 10 teams or 14. Whether we have 1 division or 2. Whether we have a top 6 or a top 4. Whether we have a rigged FFA cup or a balanced one. Whether we have 180 playing spots or over 400... All this fear and paranoia that if we don't do things certain ways it will be the end of Australians watching the elite Australian football league in this country is a load of rubbish. The opportunity has always been to build a football league where our code can get the most benefit out of it, and grow the metrics gradually from that point. Instead we have neither
