Certainly I see it as my task to enlighten the great unwashed on this forum, and for the most part, I have been quite successful and received the plaudits I most thoroughly deserve.

Delusional as always Mr Tardball.

It's true that in the dozen or so countries which have a footy league, the standard is quite low.

I have seen AFL junior games in Sydney. They played on the field opposite us and rugby league played on the field further up. Growing up AFL was the sport that did all the funny looking stretches and odd drills. Both had only one or two teams that would play each week. When training or warming up we were not allowed to a blade of grass on either field while they freely trampled over ours.
The rugby league team is now dead has been incorporated into the club I played for and the process seems to be repeating with the rugby league club that plays on the ground opposite to my current club. The AFL team somehow seems to struggle on so there is a big well grassed area that you can fit about four football pitches on that gets about 3-4 hours of use every two weeks at most. The football clubs have been dreaming of taking over it for the 20 years since I started playing.

While I enjoy the further dominance that football is gaining in the area, I think that it is sad that the diversity of games that were played on the same grounds is dying off. Even though I didn't really understand what was going on on the field back in the other two sports then I enjoyed watching three sports being played by my age group every weekend. At my current club we used to be able to play our game then walk up to the other field and join a large crowd to watch players who'd just been dropped from the Shark's squad for the week playing for their local club side. That was dead this year.

If you are seeking diversity, you should applaud the AFL's attempts to expand its footprint into NSW.

Its even better up here in Sydney. I have NEVER seen an AFL junior game. We don't even see AFL posts up on any grounds at all. Don't even get me on the state of the game in Western Sydney. There is downright hatred for it.

What AFL does rather successfully is it taps into this country's sense of wanting to prove its worth. It feeds off the parochialism and defensiveness which is commonplace (but not universal) in mainstream Australia.

The more critical you are of it, the more they (and others in Australia) become defensive about it and try to reinforce how good it is.

I don't have a problem with Aussie Rules supporters/the AFL when they're not aggressive and defensive (not actually an oxymoron). Admittedly, I'd sooner see its athletes play other sports. But it's only when the fans and organisations become aggressive and defensive that I get pissed off with them. Unfortunately, this seems to be par for the course. In keeping with the attitude of far too many in Australia.

E.g. QandA this week. People in the audience getting upset because Shakespeare is apparently stopping great Australian works getting the attention they deserve.

VFL rent-seeking, lies and inflating figures. Shows player numbers and quality declining but they claim increases. Their little game is in trouble, no wonder Mr VFL is such a desperate zealot.

again....AFL doesn't need to have Pro-Leagues in countries to expand.....do you see rugby union  have pro leagues all around the world,

96 countries where in the Rugby World Cup qualifying, 39 of those countries from Europe....did you watch Croatia vs Netherlands Rugby World Cup qualifying, match?   no, but it happen , both countries have a National team , with out a pro League

AFL X will expand. AFL football outside of Australia, because the game will fit on a soccer ground

I would be amazed if the game takes off in Qld... let alone overseas

" The Code War 1950s' Style

There must be a united front from all Australian football clubs to halt the soccer movement.

Around Australia, and particularly in Victoria, access to (enclosed) grounds has been a troubling issue ever since people have wanted to play organised outdoor sport. As the dominant Victorian code, Australian rules has looked on protectively at the network of grounds over which it has had tenure, having established its possession of them over many years. Periodically, other sports, often soccer, have threatened the exclusivity and stability of that network of grounds.

There have been years when the tension has escalated into something resembling sustained turf wars. 1954 was as vicious as any.

The story of this footballing year opens with an incredible offer from J.U.S.T. Soccer Club to pay the local council £800 (perhaps $40,000 in today's terms) to rent Toorak Park on alternate weeks throughout the winter. The council initially rejected the offer, something which caused an outrage among ratepayers......................l"

AFL is like Gaelic football etc and obscure. Handball is a popular international game.

Until football can get leading politicians on side, it's always going to be hard...

Ms Bishop, a former Eagles board member, said the AFL invited her to the game.

"I was in Melbourne for a range of official visits and business over a period of about seven days," she told ABC radio on Thursday.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the AFL are partners in sports development in the Pacific and I intend to continue to be a strong supporter of the AFL in our joint endeavours to use sport as a means of developing young people in the Pacific.

Read more at http://www.9news.com.au/national/2016/09/08/17/38/ministers-defend-money-spent-on-afl-trip#jdbpV2bRTBHCV2Yb.99

DFAT and the ALF are "
are partners in sports development in the Pacific" with Jules doing her level best to help get them there hoping, no doubt, to get another gig with her "beloved" Eagles when Tones finally pounces and ends her ministerial career.

AFL are expert rent seekers. If there is anyway they can muscle in on someone else's budget they will do it. Aid funding to poor pacific islands nations? Shit hey AFL should get in on that. I'd be shocked if the 10 cents in the dollar stays on the island after the AFL has sucked the blood out of it. They don't have any shame.

Who by?
I remember the first game in the UK, drunks sitting in plastic paddle pools watching it and that was not 50 years ago, but that doesn't mean it wasn't played in one of the tiny amount of country's that play cricket,

I thought it was an Indian concept, but not 50 yrs ago. I haven't paid attention to cricket since 20Twenty came in and pushed the memories into dark recesses, so I could be wrong.

gain....AFL doesn't need to have Pro-Leagues in countries to expand.....do you see rugby union have pro leagues all around the world,

96 countries where in the Rugby World Cup qualifying, 39 of those countries from Europe....did you watch Croatia vs Netherlands Rugby World Cup qualifying, match? no, but it happen , both countries have a National team , with out a pro League

AFL X will expand. AFL football outside of Australia, because the

Adrtho2. the AFL hierarchy have their heads too far up their rear ends to realise what a complete waste of time they will be embarking on.
AFL and aflX will always be a peculiar Australian game .It may be a novelty to people in other countries ,like Gallic football, handball or chasing a goats head on horseback.
But if there is even a remote chance that an amateur league is established overseas.....So what?
Do AFL types really believe this is a gateway game to suck new foreigners into AFL?

Imagine AFL tactics.....Hey we are coming to your country to rape and pillage your soccer pitches .We don't give a stuff about turning them into cow paddocks...and ffs it's Soccer!
Now clear out you wog poofters and let us kick our heavy oval balls.
Yes we know you already prefer to kick oval balls in rugby or league ,but this is dumber so maybe you will appreciate it more.

I just find this hilarious. This is a clear smoke screen for attacking Australian Football ,otherwise the only conclusion is that the AFL hierachy are engaging in mass delusion.

if you're playing AFL X in Europe, you might be interested in watching AFL from Australia.......that it, that the goal, it not the goal for world  domination

AFL football find it hard to find space to play AFL footy in most European cites....with AFL x, this will no longer be a problem

you guys are making it more then what it is...

20/20 was played 50 years ago....

Who by?
I remember the first game in the UK, drunks sitting in plastic paddle pools watching it and that was not 50 years ago, but that doesn't mean it wasn't played in one of the tiny amount of country's that play cricket,

As for 7 a side ARF, I think the 2 major reasons it's not played professionally anywhere else is that having 80kg men running full pelt and smashing your head with their shoulder, elbow, hip and other hard bony part; or jumping up and planting their knee between shoulder blades ( the two major selling points of ARF ), is something most people with a brain don't want to do.

again....AFL doesn't need to have Pro-Leagues in countries to expand.....do you see rugby union  have pro leagues all around the world,

is this a trick question because it's traditionally been an amateur sport? But anyway, yes, you do see professional leagues/competitions/tournaments all around the world,
