Sadly though AFLW got one of the WSW players to abandon them in the latter part of the w league season to play in the opener of the aflw season.
So I guess we know who has more financial clout. Not that there was ever a question.

Wigan boss Ian Lenagan gives nod to proposed England-New Zealand Test in USThe owner of English Super League giants Wigan will have no hesitation releasing stars for a proposed mid-season Test between England and New Zealand in the US, insisting the international game shouldn't bend to reluctant clubs. Ian Lenagan, the chairman of the touring Warriors and also boss of soccer's Football League in Britain, has cited the requirement of the round ball code's mega-rich English clubs, such as Manchester United, to release players for international duty as a prototype for international rugby league. Talks about whether the ground-breaking Test between World Cup finalists England and the Kiwis should go ahead in the US during the standalone State of Origin weekend will escalate next week. Some NRL clubs have already expressed concern about releasing their international players for a Test on the other side of the world in the middle of a taxing season as well as a lack of an iron-clad schedule to capitalise on the success of the World Cup. Lenagan, whose Wigan will clash with rivals Hull in Wollongong on Saturday in the first Super League game played outside of Europe for competition points, has championed the benefit of playing a fully-fledged international in an emerging rugby league market. He pointed to Premier League clubs, who can go for up to a month in season without some highly paid stars for a tournament such as the African Cup of Nations, as an example how other sports treat international competition. Asked if he would happily release Wigan players for the mooted Test in the US, Lenagan said: "Without a doubt. We've always believed in the international game. "The World Cup final in Brisbane was such a tight game and it showed around the world what interest our game can have. Just because of self interest in terms of protecting an NRL club, or if we were doing it protecting a Super League club, [shouldn't stop a Test match]. "I believe we should be like soccer and it doesn't matter if you're Manchester United or Arsenal or Tottenham: if your player gets selected for an international game you have no choice and they have to play. That's the way it should be in rugby league. "England against New Zealand in Denver or New York is a great concept, but you've got to get the clubs to back it, don't you? You can be too insular if you're not careful." Dragons recruit James Graham has already said he would be willing to take part in the Test if it gets the green light, but jittery NRL clubs have baulked at risking millions of dollars of talent. And they are even less impressed a long-term international schedule, such as that employed in cricket, seems no nearer to fruition. "I think we should be doing it and I'm all for growing [the game], going to America and I think it's what we should be doing," said Wigan star Sam Tomkins, who is gunning for an England recall. "If you take games all over the world whether it be America or Dubai ... I think it would be brilliant." Lenagan's Warriors have absorbed much of the risk to stage a proper Super League game in Australia, sparking debate about whether the NRL should explore venues outside of Australia and New Zealand for some regular season games. The Bulldogs, Storm, Rabbitohs and Warriors will head to the other side of Australia to play at Perth's Optus Stadium as part of a double-header on the opening weekend of the season. "Whenever the NRL teams come over [to Britain] they're always well received," Lenagan said. "We've got to be thinking in terms of London, New York, Toronto and France. We're at the start of a 10-year period where the game could be an international success. "If we can only persuade the NRL to have the same degree of interest in promoting the club game of rugby league worldwide then we've got a superb opportunity. One of the best opportunities is to do it by organising a tour like this." Wigan will play the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium in the final match of their NSW tour next week while Hull will clash with the Dragons. Wigan boss Ian Lenagan gives nod to proposed England-New Zealand Test in US
Both the rugby codes have way more potential internationally. Toronto has a team in the English system, that has pro rel. USA and Canada are hosting the 2025 RLWC and Rugby has 7s Olympics and its own massive world cup. All are dwarfed by football however.
It will be funny though if RL have internaitonal breaks before the A-League.

+xSadly though AFLW got one of the WSW players to abandon them in the latter part of the w league season to play in the opener of the aflw season. That's a double edged sword and why there is starting to be lots of criticism. You are essentlally marketing a professionally organised sport where the majority players have virtually no skill, hell they don't even have expertise. There was an article in the paper about a former sokkah goalkeeper that just swapped over because she was cut from MV. So not good enough for sokkah, but she was good enough to waltz right into a AFL team.

Geez that’s bad.
If it’s a semi pro comp they shouldn’t dictate style of play to the sides.
I was looking through bigfooty last night and realised the scores for round 1, I couldn’t believe there were games were no goals were scored in a whole half! There is a lot of negative feedback about this

Wow
Aha seriously, that's got to be one of the most insulting and patronising (to the players) things I have read in any sport.
Jesus.

"This is not a rule change, this is a spirit of the game initiative," the AFL's head of women's football, Nicole Livingstone, told reporters in Sydney on Thursday.

SANFL “Fast Footy” tournament to take over Norwood Oval ahead of AFLX launch SANFL launches 12-a-side pre-season Fast Footy tournament Central District won’t play in “gimmick” Fast Footy competition Speed the key for football’s answer to Twenty20 cricket HIGH-scoring, free-flowing and entertaining football will be on show when Fast Footy hits Norwood Oval, according to SANFL coaches. The league will reveal its hybrid version of the game tomorrow night and Saturday night – a week before AFLX – with 12 games and finals to be played by nine teams. Fast Footy features 12-a-side matches with 10-minute quarters, unlimited interchanges, a last-touch out-of-bounds rule and kick-ins after every score, including goals. Drawn games will result in a soccer-style penalty shootout from 30m. The SANFL is offering $20,000 as prizemoney, including $10,000 to the winner, $5000 to the runner-up and $2500 each for third and fourth place. Speedsters such as Norwood’s Anthony Wilson are tipped to thrive in the new concept. Picture: Tom Huntley. Reigning premiers Sturt are expected to rollout a strong line up, including dual Magarey Medallist Zane Kirkwood in at least one game. But coach Martin Mattner said Fast Footy would also give some promising youngsters an opportunity to put their names up for selection. “The boys who won the under-18 and reserves premierships last year are back at the club and a number will be pushing for senior selection, so it's a chance for them,” Mattner said. “We’re going to mix it up a bit, a few of the senior players are pretty keen to play.” Mattner said about 18 goals were kicked in just three 10-minute quarters when Sturt trialled the game at training last week. “It’s definitely free flowing and entertaining with not too many stoppages,” he said. Eagles coach Michael Godden. Picture: Stephen Laffer. Woodville-West Torrens coach Michael Godden said it was hard to know what to expect from the new format, but goals would come thick and fast. “I’m sure we’ll be competitive and will be going out trying to kick a big score,” Godden said. “Do you play just super-fit guys, stronger, faster, slower, bigger, smaller? It’s hard to know. “We’ll probably know more at the end of the carnival, and then next year you’ll have more of an idea.” While the AFL’s new AFLX concept will debut on a rectangle pitch in Adelaide on February 15, the SANFL’s Fast Footy will be played on a full-sized oval. Entry to the tournament is free and there will be music, children’s entertainment and club zones to create a carnival atmosphere. Central District will not contest the tournament because it clashed with its pre-season program. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/messenger/sport/sanfl-fast-footy-tournament-to-take-over-norwood-oval-ahead-of-aflx-launch/news-story/b1918facf835624d8521a84ed70b552Let's see if this morphs into SANFL AFLX comp next year @ Hindmarsh.

The first event had a capacity limit of 10k. This was supposed to test 50,000. Well, they tested the accountant's ability to count to $100,000 but that's it i'm afraid. I knew this "sell out" was another AFLW stunt but I didn't think it'd be this bad. The stadium looks as full as Nou Camp on referendum day

It is all elementary they can make up any shit they want because they run the media ignore the negatives over hype the positives. Football needs to learn from this.

Eh. They've been doubling crowd figures in NSW & QLD for decades. The only reason this stands out is because the seats in that stadium are white and grey instead of the multi-colour designs/patchworks used elsewhere.

+x+xThey had Trump’s crowd conjure Their dead shit fans will believe it I was there, easily 42k. The photo you show shows the section facing the sun. It was the only part of the ground less than 50% full. Most of the bottom tier was 90%.
