Just saw this on Twitter. WANDERERS THE HOTTEST TICKETWHILE the NRL has struggled to sell finals tickets in Sydney, there’s no such problem for soccer. Already 50,000 tickets have been sold to the Sydney FC-Wanderers derby at ANZ Stadium on the weekend after the rugby league grand final, October 8. Officials now expect a crowd of up to 70,000 for the A-League blockbuster. The derby has also attracted incredibly strong corporate interest. The Wanderers have sold 700 tickets to a derby-eve sponsors’ lunch at ANZ Stadium.

I wanted the crowd to be big enough to benefit football, but not big enough that loog bogan Gallop can say "look how much you love the stadium let's start meddling with fixtures and send teams there every week"

Both sets of fans will have that place rocking, cannot wait! Just hope there's no trouble so the media have only positives to focus on.

What is good for the game will benefit everyone. All the great ideas are just that without more revenue, bigger TV money and increased sponsorship. I can see what the FFA are trying to do and there is a reasoning for this. Time will tell whether it is the best thing to do. There is an argument for how the game could be better run but Gallop doesn't do what he does for the detriment of the game it is to grow it. I truly hope it works out because for too long we have been shooting ourselves in the foot.

Jeez. It's there because the home team wants it to be there. FFA don't choose the stadium for any games other than the final series. It is and has been solely down to the Clubs where they play, always, even when we've had community rounds. It's been a point of "difference" between the League and other sports that dickheads here can't stop comparing themselves to. How about comparing what happens today with what happened a dozen years ago in our game? Of course the FFA are definitely to blame for some things. My coffee is cold. Gallop and those kuntzs have never done anything to help. Talk about arrogance, hate and bigotry and all targeted at football and the people involved in it. Not bitters anymore - just haters.

Doubtful teams would be sent there to play every week anyway - there's two teams close enough to maybe look at but unless there's like 10 teams in Sydney or Melbourne alone, probably not worth caring about.

Football have been fortunate this year. Only 1 final from 6 in Sydney so far and Cronulla the only team from Sydney left.

Large financial returns vs member wishes = plastic blah, blah, blah I think we can excuse WSW for doing this. Considering their new stadium is on its way and they are playing at another venue. When they move to the new Parramatta imo it should be another story.

Is this accurate? Just the other day we had an article saying 10,000 tickets had been sold. One of the stories is wrong.... And I'm tipping this one.
Not to be pessimistic . But 50,000 tickets sold + 18,000 members = 68,000 . So for the article to say hopeful of 70,000 when they are already at that figure I think shows its lack of credibility.
I bloody hope it's not wrong or if it is , not far off the mark. But the articles were written in the same week taken completely opposing views on ticket sales. One is wrong.

The quote says 50000 sold.

@ Fishy
Not sure on the actual numbers but when they quote "tickets sold" they do include the home teams membership so doing the maths that's 18,000 members plus 5,000 tickets purchased by smurfs making it 23,000 to date so if it's 50,000 tickets sold then a further 27,000 have been sold.
My instinct is they'll be going their best not to talk this one up, saying 70k and hitting 60k will still be a disappointment of sorts

Gotta love some of the reactions on this forum. What could be better than a full house in a derby? If the Melbourne derby was played in front of 60k people, I wouldn't care whether or not it was our home stadium.
Besides, people need to look at the growth here. This is exactly what the league needs. I'd rather the FFA take a few gambles to grow the comp than limit its potential just to keep the purists happy.

Yeah apologies, the article did say 5,000 Sydney and didn't make reference to the overall tickets sold. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/a-league/wanderers-lay-down-derby-gauntlet-to-sydney-fc-fans-over-ticket-sales-as-aleague-waits-for-record-crowd/news-story/883b25dfefa946245e423418f80c632cGreat if the news is true... Even if 50k including members, you'd expect 5k walk up if tickets available. So basically 55k plus whatever they sell in the next 3 weeks. 70,000 very realistic if these numbers are accurate. Amazing news.
