+xGotta love some of the reactions on this forum. What could be better than a full house in a derby? If the Melbourne derby was played in front of 60k people, I wouldn't care whether or not it was our home stadium.Besides, people need to look at the growth here. This is exactly what the league needs. I'd rather the FFA take a few gambles to grow the comp than limit its potential just to keep the purists happy. Hear, hear

Would be more than happy for them to take the crown on highest ever attendance at an a-league game. The more articles like this, the more it will reach a massive figure.

The FFA can hardly take credit for this move to ANZ. The Wanderers are the ones who moved it to ANZ due to new stadium being built. Lets not give credit to Gallop and Co for something they had no part in.

ANZ actually has an OK atmosphere when you get more than 60,000 in there. Not great, but passable. Once the stadium gets rebuilt into a 75k rectangular stadium with a better roof and closer terracing, this thing will go off.
I just hope they allow each team to keep a game at the home ground.

I'm jealous we don't have a large-scale rectangular stadium in Melbourne ;) But even if Gallop took credit, I wouldn't be fussed. My attention is focussed on our game; not him.

+x+x+x+x+x+xI wanted the crowd to be big enough to benefit football, but not big enough that loog bogan Gallop can say "look how much you love the stadium let's start meddling with fixtures and send teams there every week" LOL. Jeez. It's there because the home team wants it to be there. FFA don't choose the stadium for any games other than the final series. It is and has been solely down to the Clubs where they play, always, even when we've had community rounds. It's been a point of "difference" between the League and other sports that dickheads here can't stop comparing themselves to. How about comparing what happens today with what happened a dozen years ago in our game? Of course the FFA are definitely to blame for some things. My coffee is cold. Gallop and those kuntzs have never done anything to help. Talk about arrogance, hate and bigotry and all targeted at football and the people involved in it. Not bitters anymore - just haters. must say it was a gamble thats paying off for the wanderers right now. if they do turn out in massive numbers the wanderers are in for a massive payday its capped Members of both clubs have long been opposed to playing games at the larger venue but the Wanderers' forced relocation gives the club little option other than to explore this possibility. While it may not be popular with its core supporters, any move will yield a significant financial return for the club with a share of gate revenue to the sum of $500,000 on offer for every match that would draw a significant attendance.

and where is the rest of the money going to, the FFA? the stadium owners. "you can use our stadium but we are giving you .5 million max if you get more than 50k people" "you dont get any drinks or food money either" Pretty sure this is the case because WSW like the NRL teams don't pay rent there. In fact they get paid to play there. So its a way of the owners to get some cash back. Its the reason virtually every NRL team plays out of the stadium.

Hopefully the FFA will hype the shit out of it in the opening week. I know having the derby in Round 1 has a slightly unnatural feel, but with a bit of luck it could set up the rest of the season. It might be just what casual fans need to become regulars.

If they have already sold 55k then I would think this game will most definitely sell out. Lots of the less hardcore fans tend not to buy tickets way ahead of schedule and with 3 weeks to go there is plenty of time to sell the rest. I'd say the FFA wanderers and Sydney Fc will be hoping this game sells out but don't want to over sell it in case they only get 70k.
With news that this game is going to have a huge crowd you will probably see a lot of people getting tickets just to witness the spectacle. It's going to be huge.

this is pleasing to hear for a brand new competition as is this from same article WALLABIES FLOGGED BY EPL DERBYTHE poor old Wallabies are struggling for support after some ordinary performances against England and the All Blacks. In free-to-air TV ratings from last Saturday night, the Wallabies versus Springboks Test was knocked off by the English Premier League on SBS in the five-metro market. Admittedly, it was a huge EPL game — the big Manchester derby — but in the good old days a Wallaby Test would flog any soccer game. The derby had 267,000 viewers to rugby’s 228,000.

The fucking whinging from some of you lot these days is beyond ridiculous. The game will be massive. Sydneysiders LOVE big events like this. The game will crack IMO the biggest crowd ever and biggest ratings for a regular season game ever. Be stoked, not whinging bitches.

You're right gayfish. We should bitch and complain about the FFA even when the FFA had absolutely nothing to do with the game being played at ANZ.

Yeah I'm a bit confused about how the numbers jumped so quickly, did they release a new batch of seats? I got mine in the first release but the choices were pretty awful, I suspect I am in a wsw area heh.
I haven noticed that anz has a lot of seats reserved for stadium members. Gotta wonder how many of the reported seats are for them.

Mate there are plenty of things to be pissed off about football in this country. The Sydney derby is not one of them.

ANZ stadium members had to apply for these tickets before they were on sale. As a member if you don't apply for tickets to an event then they are released therefore any members numbers they are using are from those who intend to go.
These pre claiming rules don't apply for certain 'non big events' such as regular season nrl matches etc.

Interesting that the AFL are not moving gws' game for a spot in the GF from Spotless as they are worried that they wouldn't get enough people to a bigger stadium in NSW, yet a home and away sokkah match gets this interest. I said it before, but if this game gets a bigger crowd than the AFL derby final there a few weeks ago, especially after this hundreds of millions they've spent over the years on these two sides, then it's a monumental slap in the face for Gil and his gang.

Wow. So if memberships are definitely not included in the pax, that means we're looking at about 47k so far. Assuming all members show up. I think that can definitely grow over the next 3 weeks.

Got no problem with this as a temporary measure whilst Parra Stadium is being rebuilt whilst but I'm worried that the suits will get greedy and keep playing games at Homebush after their new stadium is ready.
