Pax has gone up 3,600 in the last 24 hours.  Its now 38,285.

The PAX always seems to haunt us when speculating a crowd... but if this is correct then:

38k tickets bought
19k members
5k stadium members
=
62k

Even if only 90% turn up we are currently sitting at a crowd of 55k 1 week out.... incredible. Aiming for 70k i'd hope.

How many does it actually hold?

Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said ticket sales so far had left the club expecting an A-League record crowd of 60,000 for the derby game against Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium.
By Greg Prichard
30 SEP 2016 - 10:21 PM UPDATED 16 MINS AGO
A crowd of 60,000 for the first derby to be held away from either Pirtek Stadium or Allianz Stadium would shatter the A-League record attendance of 55,436 for the grand final between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United way back in the second season of the competition.

That game, at Etihad Stadium on February 18, 2007, is famous for the 6-0 win to Victory that included an A-League record five goals from Archie Thompson.

There has been a lot of speculation about the possible size of the crowd for the derby, which will kick off at 7.50pm on Saturday, October 8.

The World Game asked Tsatsimas how club memberships and ticket sales were progressing just over a week out from the game, and he replied: "We expect to get 60,000 to the game. Tickets are selling really well. We're aiming to break the record and that's what we're on track to do.

L
"We've got about 18,300 members for this season so far and there is no limit on membership at this stage. We're still open for business in that area and we're looking to break 20,000 members.

"The derby is the ultimate game on the Sydney football calendar and this one is the first game of the season, at a huge venue, so it will be the pinnacle game for our members and as such we expect the vast majority of them to come to the game.

"Apart from that, ticket sales are tracking well and the combination of memberships and ticket sales so far, with still more than a week to go, tell us to expect 60,000."

Tsatsimas added there was the potential for the crowd to get even bigger under the right conditions.

"Anything above 60,000 would be a bonus, but you never know how many more might be there if there's great weather and plenty of publicity," he said.

Publicity certainly shouldn't be a problem. The A-League will have a valuable window to exploit in the week leading into the first round, with the NRL and AFL seasons done after this weekend's grand finals and the cricket season yet to take off.

Western Sydney Wanderers striker Brendon Santalab, who is entering his fourth season with the club, said he believed this latest installment of the derby would "blow away" previous derbies for atmosphere.

"I've heard the talk about how big the crowd is likely to be and it's amazing," Santalab said. "This game is going to be massive for the league, for both clubs, and it's sure to be a great spectacle. We've had three and a half months to prepare, so it's definitely going to be one fiery battle.

"The second leg of the Asian Champions League final in Saudi Arabia, in 2014, is the biggest game I've played in for the Wanderers. It was incredible, the atmosphere was amazing.

"Obviously every derby in terms of atmosphere has been fantastic, but we're expecting this to be even bigger and blow away the past derbies in terms of the atmosphere and the electricity in the air within the stadium.

"So it'll be among the top three or four games I will have played in."

Wanderers midfielder Dimas said he was excited to find out just how many people turn up.

"It's very exciting to have a first match like this, being a derby and with a huge crowd," he said. "We're going to be able to fit in as many people who want to come.

"The team is going to be really well prepared for the match and hopefully we can do well for our fans and win."

New signing Nico Martinez, who is expected to play on the wing for Wanderers, said he couldn't wait to kick off his career with the club in such a big match.

"I'm looking forward to this match because they've told me there will be 60,000 people there," he said. "I want to be 100 per cent and ready to go."

Good temporary move by wanderers. Should pay off well for them. Glad to see the numbers but its important they turn out on the day. Either way its money in the coffers.

Anyone who thinks the move to the Olympic stadium is temporary simply doesn't know how the game is played. You get fucked in increments. First one inch until you get all 8. Next year DAve will be explaining that gee whiz, it was such a success that we just plain old needed to do it again.

No more games at the SFS. Too small. Lets get rid of all the integrity of the game in order to chase $$$.

Not bad considering the game, let alone the league, has barely gotten a mention in the media.

Wanderers training base and academy under construction is in Blacktown, no way the FFA is looking at another team there. The Shire/Cronulla sounds about right.

@ sydnetfc1987

The last Riar CEO explained the fixture allocation as follows:

- each team is awarded 13 home games each season
- the 14th home game is designated a "regional game" and even though most teams have never done so, the intent was always clubs should take it away somewhere
- the third game between two opponents belongs to the FFA and they, at their discretion, can schedule that game anywhere they like. So Wanderers and SFC chose where to schedule one game each, the third currently on rotation home/away could be set by the FFA so don't be surprised if one Sydney derby games stays at ANZ every season, even next year

This is going to be a security nightmare.

There's going to be a fucking riot of LA 1992 proportions at the station post game. Any crowd over 20k and it's a shitfight to get in that station. You can keep the Cove back for half an hour, but by the time they get to the station, the majority of the RBB are still going to be waiting in the lines at the station and there'll be trouble of some form for sure. After Socceroos games it's sometimes taken me nearly an hour just to get down to the platform.

If Sydney Trains & NSW Police are smart, they'll at least segregate rival fans onto opposite sides of the station. Have 1 platform for Sydney FC supporters and one for Wanderers fans. Have 1 train going to Central via Strathfield & Redfern, and the next train to Parramatta/Blacktown on both stations. Of course, have less trains going to Central for the Wanderers side of the station, but knowing Sydney Trains they'll fuck that up and have all the trains going to Central on the Wanderers side of the platform.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewery @ Sydney Olympic Park is closed off to Wanderers fans only, given they're the home team. It's the only pub/bar in the Sydney Olympic Park area which to me is bizzarre. They'll only be serving plastic and midstrength and there'll be a huge Police and private security presence hanging out around the front of the place as the route from the station to the stadium goes smack bang past the bar. The Cove are doing pre-drinks in the City and getting a specialized train in anyway, so that'll negate some of the trouble.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if something kicks off big time. At least with Parramatta there's 2-3 routes to get to the station which the Police can Marshall accordingly. Expect the DT to jump on the anti-football hooligan bandwagon on Sunday morning. $50,000 fines and 3 point deduction memes to run riot.

The club has fucked the ticketing up a bit for this though.

I'm an RBB member, and I have 3 people wanting to go with me ( their first ever games ). I'm offered a couple of memberships to use, however the club hasn't allowed the transfer of member tickets as yet. And we are a week out.
I called the club asking will they be releasing any RBB tix for general sale. The bloke tells me no.
Then 24 hrs later they announce the special RBB membership for 1 and 5 games.
So I go to to buy the special single RBB membership......for $90 a pop! Jam that.
All other decent seats are sold and taking 2 kids with me, i'm not buying a GA and having to jostle with fuckwits to get a decent seat.
So I've bought a category C ( white ) family pass. Right up the top, nose bleed section ffs.

Oh well, at least I get to go.

On the upside, I'm under cover and should have a small queue at the bar ;)
