+x+xJust in regards to the Age article regarding the training facility on the toxic wasteland, I'm not sure why Victory would have investigated another site in the west of Melbourne. They need to focus on the centre of Melbourne, the north, North east, and North-west of the city. Thats now the catchment, and its massive. I don't know how familiar you are with Melbourne, but the proposed site is 13-14km from the city. You're not gonna find space for a stadium site any closer than that. Then you have the nearby rail line, which will be connecting up to the new tunnel (opening 2025), which will link the south east with the north west and (eventually) the airport. I think its a brilliant location. Its also close to the Ring Road which if you don't fancy catching a train. It's not a stadium they are looking to build. Its an academy site.

From a strategic point of view, I'd be looking at making a deal with Northcote City FC to take over John cain Memeorial park in Northcote/Ivanhoe as a training gorund/Academy/Administration centre.
It is perfect for what the club needs. 3/4 pitches, room for offices and gym setups, and the ability for a mini stadium for A-league Women/NPL matches.

+xAs for Arzani, I think its a strange appointment for a team that has a problem keeping its players on the park. I hope he came cheaply. Free transfer. Transfermarkt value €450k? New 2 year Victory contract for unknown amount. For MV’s sake and his own he must have his best ever season/s now 🤞

I forgot MV were playing Chris good in midfield.
Popa has to be the worst recruiter that MV have had

Half of the job is done. Brilliante is gone (thanks WSW, ya suckers). Now for Ikon.

+xDoes anyone on here have shares in Victory and care to let us know whats going on? Doubt it. 777 own 70% and MVLTD own the other 30%. So doubt you'll find many people willing to share how the sausage gets made. A few years back there was an offer on the table for the public to buy shares. I actually submitted an expression of interest to buy some. From memory it was about $1k per share, which at the time was a pretty good deal. A football club in Australia making profit consistently for a decade wasn't a bad bet at all. However someone swooped in and bought the lot before any of the members could have a crack.

+x+xI have heard on a reliable source (ex staff member of MV) that Tony Popovic is currently under investigation for misconduct toward staff and player welfare. Apparently lawyers are involved. Interesting stuff.... Have heard rumours of animosity between board members and tootball technical staff but I suppose, like in most clubs, when the season on the pitch is shithouse the interactions between players on staff cant be 100% pleasant..... Let us know if you hear anything. If true, It also has a wiff of a bit of technical legalese to find a way to sack him without paying out his contract. Two of the assistant coaches and the goalkeeping coach were dumped a couple of weeks ago. Bit strange to dump the assistants but keep the manager. It's usually the other way around, the manager gets the boot followed by the assistants.

+x+xIt’s hard to remember a coach who has been so utterly clueless and poor in his execution of tactics that has still managed to keep their job.
The recruiting, formation and unwillingness to change anything when it clearly isn’t working is baffling.
I feel sorry for the poor sods who have him next.
Get ready for 85 minutes of passing sideways and backwards walking towards goal with a bunch of recycled players before panicking at the 88th minute and bringing some young players on. When Popa took over 2 years ago, one of the things that stood out to me is that he would be overseeing the whole football program. There was a stat that came out recently that says we are the only club to give zero minutes to players under 19 over the past 2 seasons. We are rightly entitled to ask questions of where we are headed as a squad. It's also clear Popa has been worked out by opposition teams. We are a really easy team to play against. Maybe so, but we aren't easy to score against. Our defensive record this season is actually very good. 4th best in goals conceded. We just can't score. We are very similar to the Roar in that aspect. Teams aren't putting much past us, but we just can't capitalize on goal scoring opportunities.

We are rightly entitled to ask questions of where we are headed as a squad. It's also clear Popa has been worked out by opposition teams. We are a really easy team to play against. On top of that, we have 2 players (Ikonomidis and Brilliante) who are pretty much cooked at this level, and both are contracted for next season on decent money (and that’s not even mentioning Nani). Neither should be in our starting 11, but it’s almost like Popa is compelled to play them in the hope they find some form and confidence heading into next season. Wilson and Adams should be starting every game for the rest of the season, but Popa won’t do it. I can see a few of our younger fringe players moving on for opportunities elsewhere next season. The future feels pretty bleak right now. As for ADP, he famously said 2 years ago that we will never finish last again under his watch. If we do, will be finally fall on his sword? The events of this season have convinced us all its time for ADP to hand over control of the club to someone else.

For me I think it has all hinged on the recruiting. I think Popa took too many risks and none of them have stepped up. Nani for Rojas on paper seemed fine, but as with all these senior marquee players, there is a risk involved and that risk showed itself. There was no like for like replacement for Davidson from a quality perspective. Probably the biggest loss from last season. Losing Daggers couldn't have been predicted, but he could have been replaced in the Jan transfer window. Fornaroli still has something to offer, but it's not as a starting striker. Popa put way too much stock in Spira being available. Silva has been good, but we needed dependability from the start. Cadete and Juric are both wasted signings. When Cadete plays no one would notice and Juric never plays. Who knows about the young blokes as they rarely get a shot. Losing Brimmer to injury just compounded all of the other issues. If they pick up the wooden spoon, it'll be interesting to see how/if they justify keeping Popa. Add to that Timothoeu...what was that about? And yeah, Juric Cadete has been nowhere near Davidson level. Ikonomidis should never start. Just trots around doing nothing. And what happened to Wilson? Played well then vanishes.

Sanctions are in.
Fines and active support bans this season, further fines and 10 point deductions to apply if any further serious fan misbehaviour prior to the end of the 2025-26 season.

With the new alliance with 777 American firm, will this eventually impact on the issue of building a new Training Base for Victory and to stop using the University facilities? Is there a parcel of land in Melbourne for the club to purchase and finally getting it going?

+xSorry to say he will continue to. He looks like he has all the attributes but he caused so many goals against for us in the last couple seasons. Even leaving aside positional errors his passing was always scary as hell. We are talking several good chances a game straight from his wayward passing. I was genuinely surprised you guys picked him up I thought it would be close to NPL time for him. Nothing against him and maybe Poppa can get him firing. his name escapes me but there was recent talk about Victory signing another CB playing in asia. Maybe Popa has seen enough.

Not sure how reliable but heard that any matches from here on that are to be postponed due to covid reasons will be deemed "no result" if it's true, there goes the last bit of integrity the league has left, and if victory has a game affected this way considering how many in hand we have, it would rule us out of the title race.

+xMargiotta should be making pizzas at 400 gradi.
yep. he's on holiday. but you know what? he's not on his own. we are wasting numerous chances. Should have won last night and on Saturday. LLL couldn't be any worse up front.
