Marco Rojas is ready to rock, he just needs to find a club. Melbourne City had hoped Rojas would replace Uruguayan Javier Cabrera, who officially departed on Sunday, but the Kiwi winger has rejected the Bundoora offer.
It leaves a return to Melbourne Victory or Wellington Phoenix as his most likely outcome. If he in fact signs in the A-League.
Rojas played as recently as December 15, with his Danish club SonderjyskE understood to have offered him a contract extension. His preference was to return “home”.
Victory is doing everything possible to fit him in, but they must release a visa player to make it happen. Austrian Kristijan Dobras and Dane Jakob Poulsen are believed to be the players told they can leave. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/football/duvas-xi-sam-kerr-and-caitlin-foord-our-new-harry-kewell-mark-viduka/news-story/368cca89206173114995d166d3539b78

Didn't he always want to be a number 10... if dobras goes this could be his time. I think poulsen is starting to show a little bit so definitely hoping its dobras.

Full trophy cabinet (but yours looks a bit empty) ! Reigning BACK2BACK 442 A League and World Cup (Mens and Womens) Tipping Champion - so yeap, I do know best !

Pay out Dobras, offer Rojas the rest of the cap and then promise a marquee deal for 3 years after that. Enough of this continual churnout, let’s get some consistency in the squad ffs

Enough of this continual churnout, let’s get some consistency in the squad ffs the problem at the moment is that no one knows what the salary cap will be next season. thats why most clubs have players on 1 year deals and not many are making signings right now. This should have been decided by now so teams can start making plans.

I don't think Dobras is going to go for a mutual termination...who would pick him up after the woeful performances he has displayed so far?

I would not at all be surprised to discover that some clubs find creative ways of compensating the player to circumvent the cap.

There is an NRL club I support in Sydney and they have an uncle there that makes everything alright with the salary crap.. The former salary cap auditor works at that club too. Yes you said it baby!! Uncle Nick Politis and the Sydney Roosters!!! You can add Sergio Aguero too if you let him run your club!

Still it will count towards the cap. Hence why we kept bru for so long It's an decent strategy. We have some approx $200,000 in extra cap space so if we could just consider Dobras or Poulsens contract as a sunk cost and unilaterally terminate one of them, we could use that to pick that to get Rojas in now. Backloading his contract with a wage rise in year 2 and 3, which would be good incentive to stop this "come and go as i please" mentality he has. Obviously it would be better to get a mutual termination for both Dobras and Poulsen but unless there is another club willing to pick them up straight away, there is no way they'd willingly give up their wages and chance to live in Australia.

I have heard rumours we are well under the cap. Which is very disappointing when we let the likes of Kosta sign for our biggest rival. We should be squeezing every cent we can to get the best talent. but putting that aside... with the benefit of hindsight, i wonder if we should have gone in with 4 visa players - saving one for January - instead of rushing to fill our compliment of visa players and buggering it up? If we can't relase one and Rojas signs for someone else, we'll only have ourselves to blame.

I reckon ADP went cheap this year after the outlay for Honda. I'm surprised we don't have a cashed-up owner wanting to have a piece of us, as we're undoubtedly the most biggest club in the league. +x+x+x+xPay out Dobras, offer Rojas the rest of the cap and then promise a marquee deal for 3 years after that. Hence why we kept bru for so long I'm aware, I meant we literally end up paying Rojas like 50k this season or something and back-load it heavily over the next 3 years. It's all academic however, as we've somehow managed to fuck Dobras off when I honestly thought he'd squeeze every last penny out of his Aussie holiday.

I wouldn't be surprised if they receive and turn down offers from overseas regularly.

I'm glad we get Bali as the average bogan will recognise who we're playing if they overhear a brief reference to the score on tv or radio news for our game, if there is a mention.
