+x+xFinal guess for me. GK: Ryan, Thomas, Redmayne, Vukovic DF: Souttar, Sainsbury, Degenek, Good, Grant, McGowan, Smith, Karacic, Behich, Wright, Deng MF: Mooy, Irvine, McGree, Holland, Dougall, Rogic, Metcalfe, Borello, Hrustic, Duncan, Petratos, FW: Maclaren, Mabil, Leckie, Duke, Rukavytsya, Boyle, Taggart, Ikonomidis, Giannou 35 in that squad - who would you leave out? Either Ikonomidis or Taggart. Probably Taggart, as with Japanese Covid restrictions being in the Middle East for 3 weeks would wreck his season.

I can't believe Arnold would not have picked Mooy if he was available, so can only assume that he is not available for some reason. Family?

Also pretty surprised at Genreau's selection. 2 goals and 1 assist this season and I feel his form has fallen off a little after a bright start to the season. Would've liked to have seen Kalik or maybe Devlin or Brimmer selected in his place, they've had better seasons imo. Also very surprised at McGowan's inclusion. He's not even the best Aussie CB at Sydney FC, let alone one of the two best in the AL. Wright or even Cameron Burgess would have been worthier inclusions. Pretty unsure as to the need to include Redmayne; 3 keepers is enough and Ryan, Vuka and Thomas' seasons are done. Giannou is extremely lucky, Deni Juric is playing in a better league and has 11 goals this season to Giannou's 0. Doesn't make any sense. Would've also liked to have seen a call up for Mileusnic; moved abroad to a strong team in a strong league and has played regularly of late. He would have been more deserving than a 31 year old Apostolos Giannou.

+x+x+x+xCan't wait to see the Iraq Iran group. Bahrain drew with Ukraine in a friendly. We need to be wary if Kuwait but I imagine the Jordan Kuwait game should probably end in a draw. If it goes badly we should end up in the top 4 2nd places. Really mixed feelings and the nerves will kick in for that Kuwait game. Hoping for some quick relief then we can have some fun. Agree, an early goal for us in that first game would be a great nerve settler, followed a by a few more for a convincing win. If we lose to both Jordan and Kuwait and they draw amongst themselves we'll be out. This can't be right. If we lose to both and they draw, we'll go through in first. We'd be on 18 points, and Kuwait and Jordan would be on 17. We're pretty much guaranteed to progress as long as we beat Nepal and Taiwan. You're right. I see what I've done there.

Mooy surely has club commitments or travel restrictions. Holland is our third highest capped midfielder. Hopefully we can win the first game then see many debuts.

McGowan has been solid for Sydney and can't think of a reason why he shouldn't have been selected, Cam Burgess and Wright are on the same level as McGowan, but I reckon he's the safest option to take. No idea what the go is with Giannou, good player, but on form, shouldn't be there. Dunno why but I'd kind of prefer Juric away with the Olyroos regardless.

we're fucked. Only 31 announced too..
I would say Shanghai don't want him to be gone for 4-6 weeks with quarantine. So the club asked him to stay.. Aaron wants to get payed so has listened to the club.
Cant go to England to see family..Quarantine would kill him anyways.
Rogic most likely couldn't be bothered... sounds about right.
How Genreau is there but no Danny da silva... is criminal... don't see many players in that squad who play as a 10 week in week out.

Sounds like Mooy has been able to get to his family. I think he's one of the few players to be alone in his current place of residence.
Rogic has an ankle issue. Our midfield looks thin as these two plus Jeggo and Luongo are out. This is the chance for Holland to redeem himself. Pretty much everyone else is there. I'm a little disappointed for Wright and Goodwin. Ikon has come from nowhere and that's great.

Yes, Mooy is a loss but if his heart wasn’t in it, he wouldn’t be bringing his A game. This is a squad that can do the job. No excuses. There’s plenty of experience, quality as well as some young blokes out to prove themselves. I can’t wait to see Boyle, Hrustic and Souttar in particular, at various stages. Lots to look forward to.

Its an interesting squad with some new players that have caught my surprise but Arnie seems to rate them for higher honours.
My only concern is the lack of creativity or general to control the play, Genreau is an upgrade on that but I doubt he will play as a starting player so he has to rely on Hrustic who hasn't gotten alot of game time this season but has potential as the No.10 of this team to eventually replace Rogic.
If only Arzani got his Euro career together he would have been a shoe in for squad as he's a standout for what he brings to the team.
What caught my surprise is Tongyik's inclusion, who would have thought he would make the Socceroos squad after troubling to find a club in his young aleague career as a recycled option for clubs, so huge credit to get the recognition from Arnie to make the squad and credit to Alen Stajcic in helping turn his career around.
Metcalfe is an outstanding prospect who doesnt too many weaknesses to his game so im not surprised Arnie has seen this to put into the squad as a future prospect.
Looking forward to the games!
