Tom Williams tweeting that Gianni Stensness will be called up while Taggart and Rogic will miss due to injury while Mooy will miss due to quarantine.

+xUs beating the Saudis and China plus a handful of draws elsewhere would just about see us home. Agree

Our group doesn't draw. Playing with the table prediction I just can't see any help coming from Oman, China ans Vietnam unless it's against us.

Arnold will stop at nothing to get Hrustic and Boyle on plane. Gotta remember we have the China game two. It all builds up to this and I don't think Stensness has the head for this yet. Jeggo, Dougall and Elder are battle hardened for clubs and are ready to deliver.

Playing with the predictor. It starts to look alright if we win the next 4 games and get that goal difference ticking over. The final two games are hell on earth. We can't go into those behind or even equal to the opponent. Japan at home by then will likely see us neck and neck where a win will put us through or a defeat will peg us back and leave the final Saudi away game as a the biggest game in a long time. Hopefully we can meet Saudi away with a 3 point gap and decent goal difference where only a massive defeat will see Australia come 3rd.

If anything is going to be a shockwave it's the 2nd batch of games. Australia China, Japan away to Oman and Saudi away to Vietnam. If at any time it's gotta be then.

Was thinking on the train on the way to work this morning. I guess arnie might see stensness as that genuine CDM for the NT. You’d think the four picks for us at centre back are souttar, sainsbury, degenek and deng (obviously when he’s fit).
Tournament football you wouldn’t take more than 4 CB’s and stensness has the size and ability to be the jedinak type player. Imagine having him at the base picking up the scraps with say a devlin then the likes of rogic, hrustic roaming around the pitch

On the basis tonight we learnt a lot and lost Souttar. I still think we need a better spine and we had it partly tonight. Is Arnie that blind he can't see our best full backs are Atkinson and Elder? This was my preferred 11 but until Mabil gets club minutes, he's on the outer for now.
Ryan Atkinson Degenek Souttar Elder Sainsbury Jeggo Irvine Hrustic Boyle Mabil
Changed due to form and injury Ryan Atkinson Sainsbury Degenek Elder Jeggo Dougall Rogic Hrustic Boyle Maclaren
The right side is very poised with Atkinson, Jeggo, Rogic and Boyle able to move around. The left equally so. Why aren't we using our two biggest motors Jeggo and Dougall? It doesn't need to be pretty at all times. The national team needs a gutting and many of the older players need to be put on notice.

I won't, yet, say Arnie's acting as stubbornly as Ange was. But seriously some of his calls were stupid. At least Ange's stubbornness was part of his proactive football philosophy (in itself, fantastic, just not a good fit with a threadbare Socceroos team).

I have to give Arnie credit for bringing Ajdin Hrustic, Awer Mabil, etc. into the side. And now Jeggo.
Also having Genreau and Arzani in the background and wanting them there.
But for all that ... why not the fullbacks?? Why can't he back Atkinson and Elder? I just don't get it.

Some of the players have just made the wrong career moves.
Ryan and mabil need to move to new clubs.
hopefully mcgree stays at Birmingham he can be a starter for us.
elder should of started for me. Nabbout probably shouldn’t of been selected.
Jeggo was really good last night could he play at a higher level then he is now?

Jeggo contract is up and he said they enjoy their Greek life. He also said a different European move is certainly interesting.

LOL Jeggo is 29 playing in a mid table Greek club. It’s not even looked favourably as a good farming league by European scouts.
One good game in Asian and off to the Bundesliga he goes.

Just like 4 years ago, I hope we finish 3rd in our WCQ group and get to the WC via 4 playoff games. They are awesome to watch (I will go to all of them), and we get to the Word Cup better prepared.
I am confident we will beat the 3rd place team in the other WCQA group. Then our chance in the Intercontinental playoff comes down to what other continent we draw, my gut says
* Oceana, we win * North America, we win * South America, we lose
So ~75% chance of winning the Asian playoff and a ~66% chance if winning the intercontinental playoff = ~50% chance of qualifying.

Cant see us beating Panama or Jamaica to be honest both have some quality players that can win games themselves. We don't have any of that - these teams are much more hungrier to qualify also.

I still think we're above 50% to make the World Cup but I think our best chance is to catch the Saudis. If we can beat them away I could see the Saudis dropping some points against the bottom three teams. We need to play a lot better than we did on Thursday though. If we can't beat the Saudis in the pouring rain then we aren't playing well. I think a draw was probably a fair result as the Saudis did really well. We desperately need Mooy fit and playing regularly. If we go the playoff routethen currently I would say the percentages would be: Asian playoff - 66% (If we get UAE it could be tough as they haven't made the world cup for decades so they will run through brick walls to get there) Oceania - 80% CONMEBOL- 10% (Colombia or Uruguay would throttle us) CONCACAF - 33% (Don't be sure we get Panama. If USA,Mexico or Canada slip up we're in a world of trouble) Current chance of getting through playoffs - 27%

The final world cup is everything in football...the world stage is where the excitement is.

I can’t find news on how bad Souttar’s injury is. Apparently he had scans on Friday. Does anyone know?
