+xI really can't see how anything will improve next season either. No new teams ,an off season of management self distruction , no bling and Chase style marketing will not bring people back. FFA has done a great job of disengaging fans. Active support destroyed.Check. Chase style marketing .Check No regional fish fans.Check Plastic franchise clubs, available for sale.Check 99% of real clubs not alllowed to play at the top level.Check. The job is almost complete. We look like we are heading down the Rugby path. People know its there but there is no compelling reason to watch. Acknowledge and accept everything posted, one minor exception is the 9 A-League clubs in Australia I believe are no longer plastic clubs. My experience is if we had a total media reversal, i.e. from toxic, constantly negative, to positive if a new drawn comes out of the FIFA process then people will start to come back.

+xGyFox Great posts on those rating figures. Quick question, say a game rates 100K do you give each team 50K in your cal's , or the home team 100K I give both teams 100k. I'm averaging how many watched games each team played in. I haven't done this season because there are too many missing games to make any comparison almost meaningless.

That means One is slightly better than SBS last season. Is it live and was it delayed last year?

+xTis what it is. Gf will be the real measuring stick. Wasn’t it 600k last year? Seems impossible. Unfortunately there were too many figures given Game: 275k Penalties: 460k Average Rating Given: 367k
SBS: 258K If the game is settled in 90 minutes then the Fox figure last year was 275k. If it goes into extra time then there are different figures to go by depending on who you talk to and who wants to argue the hardest

I have just calculated more averages for ratings for season 2016/17 to add to those in my previous post. If I feel like it I might complete the previous few seasons that I started a couple of years ago just before I had a stroke.
The average ratings for each club are (in order): Average rating for games against the top 5 rating clubs - Average rating for games against the bottom 5 rating clubs.
Sydney FC - 93k 62k Melbourne Victory - 88k 65k Western Sydney - 84k - 63k Melbourne City - 81k 62k Brisbane Roar - 80k 62k Adelaide United - 71k 49k Perth Glory - 67k 46k Central Coast - 65k 47k Newcastle Jets - 58k 46k Wellington Phoenix - 54k 45k
Games between the bottom 5 rating clubs average in the range 45k - 49k. Games between bottom 5 ratings clubs and the top 5 rating clubs average in the range 54k - 71k. Games between the top 5 rating clubs average in the range 80k - 93k.

+x+x+x65k metro on One. Last season on SBS it was 64k. Perth are close to the lowest draw for viewers. This proves beyond doubt that we should never have gone to commercial FTA. Does it? Fox ratings have halved for the first weekend of the finals while One is fractionally lower than SBS last season even allowing for the participants. Out of interest last season average ratings for each club was approximately*:- Sydney FC - 76k Melbourne Victory - 75k Western Sydney - 73k Brisbane Roar - 71k Melbourne City - 70k Adelaide United - 62k Central Coast - 57k Perth Glory - 57k Newcastle Jets - 53k Wellington Phoenix - 49k * Not including estimates for the missing data. Just goes to show how foolish it is to not let our best 4-5 teams reach their potential Fans love going to the football and watching their team play. its why we have never seen a crowd of zero despite poor seasons and dead rubbers. I can't see the ratings for the bottom 4-5 teams dropping lower even if they are largely non competitive (which they are becoming anyway) Yet the potential of the top teams have been capped. When TV networks are looking at the value of the A League they aren't thinking "if only CCM, PG and NCJ could get 60k instead of 55k". The value is the top teams pushing towards average ratings of 90k or even 100k as only they can attract a casual following and add a bit of wow factor

Don't confuse abysmal [to kind a word] atrocious, maybe horrendous management with a key decision.
Details are emerging of how poor nay amateurish was FTA media negotiations, and the implementation of same even worst.
Let me give you an example, NSW club rugby the Shute Shield is an amateur competition and they pay Ch 7 to broadcast one match each week.
Included in their negotiation was 7 would run at least 4 ads on match day and another 7 ads during the week and in selected shows the broadcast would get 5 mentions each week.
FFA did none of this and thus the expected cross promotion never occurred.. add how toxic the general media was ... and Ten simply said Fuck it..
Its emerged that during the Big Bash the A-League was to get a certain number of mentions... this never happened but was never put in writing all on a hand shake with the belief it was in 10's own interest...
I guess I am saying the appalling management of the contract with 10 has caused a lot of the trouble..... not the idea of going FTA..
Having said that some months ago I posted I think we would be better streamed live on a good platform than FTA anyway ...

+x65k metro on One. Last season on SBS it was 64k. Primetime on Sunday night is by far the biggest ratings timeslot for anything on TV - especially sport. Its why we have our GF on Sunday night, and the NRL, and the Aus Open final, and the Grand Prix etc etc etc. For a game this important, between rivals that hate each other, at the home ground of the biggest club in the country, Sunday primetime, 65 and 69 is seriously abysmal tv numbers. We barely exist. And 15k attended it live. fark me

Yikes! So apart from letting teams sign a bunch of decent players what else can we try? The expansion announcement during "one more year of this shit" didn't help season 4 from being nothing but core support. And that has now dwindled Next season may well be a non event

+x+x+xSome brave Journo needs to collect all these figures and shove them in the faces of Gallop and Lowy during their next press conference. How can they possibly justify these numbers? And the attendances? What excuses or deflections could they possibly create if confronted with them? Have you seen twitter .The journos swallow FFA baby juice for kicks. Yep, and nobody asks them the real difficult questions at press conferences either. I just want someone to one day directly confront Gallop/Lowy on camera with these “metrics” and the encyclopedia-sized list of all the objective failures that have occurred under their reign (missing expansion deadlines, failing to deliver on promises, falling viewership and attendances, all the conflicts of interest, the governance dispute, their shenanigans behind the scenes, shifting the goalposts, etc.) and getting a response from them. The only way this gets better if we stop watching and attending. I've gone local for my football fix for the past two years.
