They originally wanted to buy the stadium but ran into issues about public assets to private hands so went on to buying rights for at least 20 years.

Whatever as far as I am aware we are the only club attempting to gain stadium rights over other codes... you can make of that what you will but it shows a real intent IMO to establish a strong base.... wonders aloud what other clubs are doing...

Because there are no A-League teams in crapholes like Gosford where they're the only professional sporting team.

In fact AU is trying to ditch their stadium so that they can share with other codes :P

So, they're actually negotiating management rights, not buying the stadium

but chucking some spin about 'one day' buying it to try and help the negotiations

Mr Charlesworth and Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp are expected meet council staff today to discuss the club’s proposal to take over management rights of Central Coast Stadium.

Mr Charlesworth said the management rights takeover would be the first step in his much bigger and bold $75 million investment plans for the languishing “community asset”.

“Step number one is to take on the management rights and let us prove ourselves,” the UK-based millionaire and telecommunications magnate said.

“Once we prove ourselves, let’s get on with meaningful discussions about investing in the infrastructure there.

“I want to remind people that we want to bring in and double the number of events, we want to open up the stadium for local community grand finals.

“It’s a community asset, it’s got to be treated like a community asset and we’re prepared to do that.

“We’re prepared to back it and bring a lot more events to Gosford to really fuel the growth of Gosford.”

If successful, the Mariners would be the first A-League club to own a stadium.

The club’s ultimate goal is to buy the stadium and create a world-class “centre of entertainment” by adding a hotel, dining and retail precinct and function centre.

A VICTORY for the Central Coast Mariners topped off a successful day on the back of their campaign to revive the stadium and get the Gosford development boom well and truly moving and owner Mike Charlesworth is over the moon.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 upset win saw the Mariners climb off the bottom of the A-League ladder and celebrate the club’s Growth for Gosford Day.The big game attracted more than 7200 fans and a host of politicians, business leaders and community groups.Mariners owner Mike Charlesworth flew in from London especially for the event and to kick off collaborative discussions with the Central Coast Council and other prominent stakeholders.

“I was blown away by the number of people that came up to me and expressed their support for what we’re trying to do for the Mariners and the greater community,” Mr Charlesworth said.“The reaction from the fans was a real highlight for me.“It was great that we got a victory.

The reaction from fans felt like we’d just won a grand final.“The general positivity around the club and what we’re trying to achieve was the highlight. It was fantastic!”

You seem to have CCM confused for some other clubs.
CCM has never gone broke and/or been bailed out by the FFA - those clubs would be
North Queensland Fury
New Zealand Knights
Gold Coast United
Adelaide United
Brisbane Roar
Newcastle Jets x2

You missed the joke.

To-may-toe, to-mah-toe

Point is GCU were never a financial basket case unlike the loser Mariners.

First club to have an academy, and from season 1, have produced more Socceroos than any other A-League club... are negotiating to buy their stadium..

Have arguably the best training facility of any team any code in Australia ... with plans before council for a massive expansion ... Champions, Premierships, Pre Season cups...

But the bottom 3 there are actually important to the league and game as a whole.

And CCM have struggled to pay staff and players in the past. Remember when Arnie said he had to help some players out with their mortgage repayments?

CCM were also a main culprit that resulted in the EBA to include Super deadlines or players could walk on a free.

Most South fans I've spoken to in the last 24 months can't stand Bill P and the way he goes about it. There's a few on here who share the same view.. Still think its a dogs act on how they've promoted the fuck out of Roberto Carlos when Chris Taylor is still employed as senior coach and has been quite successful in the NPL

But apparently they have the best bid hands down... I mean all you have to do is listen to their bid leader and not take their word with a grain of salt and they are so well prepared that apparently being behind 3 and 4 months in payments to their coach seems like standard practice.

That's all the a-league needs, another struggling club in the league..

The Covert Agent reveals the proud Victorian club have had wage issues and he believes they are not ready for the big league
A-League aspirant South Melbourne is often late with payments to its coach and is not ready to participate in the national team competition, according to Goal's resident football spy.
The Covert Agent can reveal the club is often three-to-four months late with wages for coach Chris Taylor - who has taken them to three NPL grand finals and this season's FFA Cup semi-final.
It is understood Taylor had not been paid in months while South Melbourne was unveiling Brazilian superstar Roberto Carlos as their new manager, an appointment that will go ahead if they get an A-League franchise.
The Covert Agent wants to know how the club plan on generating the required revenue stream of $10 million for a lower-level A-League franchise, when they struggle to meet payments with an operating budget of $1.2 million in the NPL.
"My advice to South Melbourne chairman Bill Papastergiadis is to stop torturing a great club with faulty myths and misrepresentations and enjoy the romance of the upcoming FFA Cup semi-final against Sydney FC - a position your coach and players have put you in," The Covert Agent said.
Hellas will host the Sky Blues next month at Lakeside Stadium for a spot in the national cup final.

Roberto Carlos will be thrilled to hear the news...
