It looks very close to our WC squad. Good to see Fowler coming back in.
For those who missed our like Ibini Chidiac & Harrison they are young and will have another chance.

Ralston and Allen are too slow imo. Raso is a better backup RB to Carpenter if needed. Harrison should be there because of her versatility. Mcormick playing afl finals probably didn't help her cause and I'm not sold on Gorry, hasn't been any good for sometime. Also not sure why Campbell has been dropped for Micah. rest of the squad pretty much a certainty for the WC.

Campbell is not up to International football.

and Micah is? Micah is playing against college kids of which 3/4s of the teams are less quality than npl level. shes better with her feet than Campbell but there's a big difference playing w league and PAC 12.

Grove, Aquino, Riddel Nevin, Roestbakken, Hristodolou, Davidson, Blissett, Tamplin, Grant, Hodgson Sayer, Phonsongkham, Barbieri, Lowe, C.Fowler, Palmer M.Fowler, Ibini, Cooney-Cross, Galea, Riley, Evans
odd team chosen, missing a lot of quality players here, especially at the back.

If Fowler plays in a world cup is she then tied to Australia or because she's still young free to play for Ireland at a later date? https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/teen-sensation-named-alongside-matildas-stars-in-world-cup-squad-20190514-p51n0c.htmlMatildas' squad for the Women's World Cup 2019![Chart]() |

Fowler, She can't play for anyone but us if she gets gametime.
the two backup full backs are not up to scratch for me, everyone else on the squad is the right call imo.

Big game vs Netherlands. Should be an interesting hit out. Has anyone used the world game app to watch football before?

Does sbs vice land have a live stream online? Seems they more have a portal for stuff on delay. Game is on fox or sbs vice land. I'll be out for the CL anyway. I've not had any luck with Dutch channels.

1-0 to Netherlands at the half.
transition from the back to midfield is pretty poor, like all milicic teams previously.

painful to watch
we had some frightening flaws in our game. Hopefully a second team as they look a step back from the team we had 4 years ago

Milicic already got the Tokyo job even though we haven't played the WC. the way he has us setup is very different to staj. Night and day.

+xJust think ffa might have costed the Matildas the World Cup with its own stupidity here. Not for the reasons I suspect you think (Stajecs sacking?) Women’s football in Europe has boomed these last couple of years (investment, crowds, professionalism etc) while we have remained fairly stagnant. The signs were already there in the last year or so of Stajec’s reign - you can see it in the “Sam Kerr is the best player in the world movement” ... she’s not even close to some of the European girls who have benefitted from some of the worlds best coaching academies yet many over here are optimistically in denial. We have pretty much stood still at the same time, we’ve got ladies playing for part-time wages in Australia for a pitifully short domestic season of about 3 months and a lucky few that supplement that with stints in the USA. The surplus from the men’s game in Europe is starting to spill over in to the women’s game. Meanwhile our administrators fight over tv money like seagulls after the same chip. As women’s football booms globally can you point to one piece on investment in women’s domestic football, W League or Matilda’s, that will seriously impact our game? I cant. We should get out of our WWC group, but we might not.

We are going to fall behind quite a ways... Most nations overall will be alot better in 4 years time.
Comparing 2019 to possible 2023.
2019 / 2023
GK (2/3) Williams / Out due to age Arnold / Remain Micah / Remain
DF (3/7) Polkinghorne / Out due to age Alleway / Out due to age Kennedy / Remain Catley / Remain Allen / Likely won't be chosen Simon / Likely won't be chosen Carpenter / Remain
MF (4/7) Yallop / Remain Luik / Out due to age. Harrison / Remain Kellond-Knight / Out due to age Van Egmond / Remain Gorry / Likely won't be chosen Logarzo / Remain
FW (4/6) Devanna / Out due to age Raso / Remain Gielnik / Likely won't be chosen Foord / Remain Fowler / Remain Kerr / Remain
We will need to find 10-15 quality new players within the next cycle. we don't have much depth currently and there are no real standouts outside of the current crop you could guarantee a spot too.
We need to find 1-2 new GKs 2-3 new CBs 1-2 backup RBs 1-2 backup LBs 2-3 or so DMs 2-3 or so CMs 2 or so AMs 1-2 Wingers At least 1 more striker

Such a big mistake that we keep playing Brazil, usa and Japan over and over and not playing these European teams, they appear to have moved way further ahead of Australia, Brazil end Japan.

Just saw the highlights now. We made some chances but weren't good enough. Defensively rather lousy. Not sure why I couldn't watch a replay of the whole thing on SBS on Demand.
Oh and that Jackie Groenen. Quite a looker, to say nothing of being a very smart footballer.
