So if we finish 3rd, we probably go through but would be very likely to play Spain or France in the quarters. Not sure what the expectations are on the girls? We are seeded 7th i think of the 12 teams, yet given the hype of The Matildas here I think many are are expecting we challenge for a medal. Personally I think a quarter final exit looks pretty likely.

Yep, coming third, even if we expand out the scope a bit and allow for 'upsets', us coming third will result in either France/Canada on one end, or Spain/Japan on the other.

Hunt, Gorry and Nevin out injured. They bring in Heatley, Frier and Gielnik. 2 players who have never played.
Makes no sense, what about a proven cb and winger. Eg Morrison/Mccormick or Simon/Harding/Ayres

Women's 2026 Asian Cup to be hosted in Australia. NSW, QLD and WA to have games. 12 teams last time. Expanded to 16? Nice, yet I wish we'd try hard for an U20 WC or U23 Asian Cup.

Cooney-Cross in the shit because she wore a Spurs scarf to support Charli Grant in her match against Man U in the FA cup final. https://www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/may/15/kyra-cooney-cross-tottenham-scarf-picture-matildas-arsenal

Women's WC 2027 goes to Brazil over Belgium, Netherlands, Germany. Bit disappointed but to be expected with spreading it around.

Congrats to Mary Fowler, the new golden girl of women's football. She now has a Barbie doll made in her image

We got to fire andreatta, blayney and dower asap… nothing has improved with them at the helm for 5+ years. We are atrocious at every level u23-u20-u19-u17-u16.

The 2nd goal just comical stuff trying to play out from the back.
3-0 down now, completely outclassed.

Don't press Can't header crosses Unfit One footed Too many unforced errors Goalkeeper can't reach halfway with goal kicks, defenders still in box when it does go long Too predictable, sideways backwards Not enough boldness in 1 v 1 Good experience otherwise

Bit of a worry
On the one hand i think we improved from the last game, more movement off the ball and more organized press. We actually did well to create some chances through the middle of the park but didnt get the shot away quickly enough
Germany were just better and i worry a gap is opening up now that the sport is professionalizing in europe

I think the womens youth teams look like the mens youth teams in asia 20 years ago and we had a missing generation How much is those yiu named and how much is the bigger football nations are getting their act together and have a huge infrastructure advantage (fully pro leagues with p and r, academies etc)?

Does this include A League? I'd tend to no. 200m just for the national teams seems a lot while the entire A League costs something similar?

+x80k sellout tonight. Pretty impressive. Amazing given the way they've been playing of late. Is that necessarily a bad thing if it goes over a lot of fans' heads? Not to be patronizing but football isn't the only reasons so many young people turn up. The hype and trend is there and are some Ultra, if not all, really there for the football itself?

They'd be rueing the day they decoupled. FA absolutely flushed with cash now and even more in the future.

They have been ordinary lately but they are popular. Need a couple of goals to make it a party. They're all over China at the moment. As for the crowd. You can't imagine 80k at a Socceroos match these days. When was the last time the blokes had a crowd like this?

If it were a deal with the A League I'd have expected more headlines and chatter on here about it. I don't know but I wonder how the German DFB and DFL are in regards to funds etc.

Van Egmond gets worse each game. I cannot for the life of me fathom out how even a clueless coach like Gustavsson can continue to select her in the extended squad, let alone pick her in his first eleven.
