VAR won’t be used in next years Champions League as it causes “confusion”. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43202295

+xBut the A-League is unique Gee you blokes are getting tiresome. It's a trial. Would you rather that than it unilaterally foisted on us with no input?

I'll believe it's a trial when it's announced it won't be used next season. It probably will be introduced worldwide. FIBA are meeting to vote on it this week and it'll probably pass. It's still better that we were part of the trial than not.

+xBut the A-League is unique Bundesliga also - high enough comp? I hate it, although if we had competent refs, or as in the Bundesliga where they only use the field ref and not some unseen idiot who just makes the wait longer, I could see it's good side. Anyway, the millions of spectators don't get much say. So if FIFA like it - it'll be done.

You miss the point. Even if FIBA vote on it, it won’t be compulsory. The FFA can still decide not to use it next season just as UEFA have done for next seasons champions league

IE: If the AFC says it's a goer can we still say no?

@ Muz
It’s optional. For VAR to work local FAs have to have all games in a competition with the necessary television equipment to do VAR, and they have to be able to afford it. Some countries won’t be able to do that so it won’t be mandatory.
So in England the EPL night implemwnt VAR next season but the English football league might not on the grounds of cost.
The FFA could back out next season and cite cost as an excuse, not that they need an excuse.
I’m hoping FIBA realise the implementation of VAR is the issue and just pause and run further trials. It’s current deployment is a farce and it needs some football people to think it through properly.

The VAR has been an utter failure but FIFA were hellbent on bringing this through whether or not VAR trials were succesful or not.

I'm all over this forum bitching about how shit the VAR is, how I hate it and I think it's an abortion that should never be introduced. I was just simply pointing out a fact.

It's better to be part of the 'trial' (in inverted commas) and have some input into it rather than be not involved and have it slapped on us next year or the year after that. (Which we know it will be.) Have you not ever heard of the saying 'it's better to be in the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in?' Spoiler alert. We're in the tent.

We might be in the tent, but the FFA is outside the tent having just drunk 10 schooners each.

Just to confirm, even if Ifab approves VAR technology this weekend it does not become mandatory: “Leagues and competitions, including the World Cup, would then need to apply to Ifab for permission to implement the technology“ Meaning the FFA could drop it http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43256551

They see VAR as another way to get a sponsor ffs. Weren't they one of the first federations to put up their hand and want to trial this shitty system.

@ Angus.
I’d say very loud. It was in other countries that didn’t have it but soon changed when they did lol.
I have little respect for the FFA but if they were to pull the VAR out for next season they would at least show they are in touch with the game
The EPL clubs seem to be pushing for the VAR to be used only in factual situations - did the ball cross the line, mistaken identity and was the foul inside the penalty area? That’s starting to make more sense

What a surprise.. http://www.espnfc.com.au/blog-fifa/story/3403889/var-unanimously-approved-by-ifab-and-set-to-be-used-at-world-cup-finalsFIFA's rule-making panel approved the addition of video review to the laws of of the game on Saturday following a trial period, clearing the way for its use at the World Cup this summer. The IFAB panel voted unanimously to begin updating the sport's written rules to include video assistant referees (VAR) and let competition organisers ask to adopt it. VAR, which can overturn a "clear and obvious error" involving goals, penalty awards, red cards and mistaken identity, has been used throughout the league season in many countries on a trial basis, including the Bundesliga, Serie A, Portugal's Primeira Liga, MLS and the A-League. It has also just been introduced in Brazil and La Liga will use it next season.

No surprises. I genuinely fear this will be the death of the game as we know it.
