+x+xDes was looking for the "quick fix" and spent lavishly in an attempt to achieve it. I think he was hoping for 2 or 3 premierships so he could boast being in the ranks of bellyache or skellator. It didn't happen and club (and fans) have felt the fallout for years. I really hope the club learned from what transpired 2012 to 2021 and have decreed that the debacle will never be repeated. Yep. Once we had a GF team all he needed to do was focus on the lower grades knowing he would have to sacrifice some first graders who's value was too high on the open market or were simply asking for too much. As mentioned in earlier discussions. Once you have a top 4 team that challenges, you need to start a production line and conveyor belt system where you willingly release expensive players whom you have ready made replacements in the junior ranks. That's how you stay at the top. Try to keep your top players and you will either fuck your SC cap up or lose your good juniors. It depends who your best players are. If they are playmakers you keep them because they execute the gameplan and make the players around them look better. You keep them because there aren't alot of options out there to replace then with and the gap between the best and the rest is typically huge. Otherwise I agree, you release them and replace them from within or pickup discards you feel you can get the best out of.

+xZef..... ABBA!!!!!! Now you're talking complete garbage. OK the two chicky babes were nice eye candy, but as a band they were atrocious. Everybody’s got a secret part of them that loves ABBA. Some just don’t want to admit it, even to themselves. Except for Fernando, even Benny’s had a gut full of Fernando and he wrote the f***in’ thing.

Or maybe you did, it is grounds for divorce and no right thinking judge will disagree that the music collection needs to be ceremoniously destroyed....

Last year I asked one of my Swedish friends what her fav album was. I was expecting ABBA for sure, but no, the answer shocked me completely. It was the soundtrack to Bladerunner 2049. Supposedly a lot of people like it. I heard it & I respect the composer was trying to do something atmospheric, futuristic, spacey etc, but suffice to say one listen is more than enough for me.

Coming here in 2022 too.I did like them better than Neil Diamond though...wouldn't be hard...some dodgy figures...supposedly one in 3 households had Hot August Night...maybe it was one in 5 but not mine.

First album I ever had was Hot August Night.
Ran it through Spotify a year or so back and it still holds up.

I the off season check out the produce like a pro youtube channel. Especially David Bowie Heros and Gerry Raferty Baker Street, the back story on why songs were written, how they were recorded etc is very interesting.

I despise ABBAs music, there is no part of me that secretly does… I would flick it off the moment identify it’s them… which is about two beats…

Couple of good YouTube channels for behind the music type stuff - Professor of Rock Rick Beato I spend hours on each one just taking it all in, very insightful. There’s more I surf to from links that come up when watching them too but I enjoy them most.

Then again I'm a Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, Black Sabbath etc type of person. Never listened to the top 40, couldn't stand it.

They were a good sing-a-long group, especially for the mums & their kids, young girls etc. I suppose a lot of impressionable males too that fancied the 2 ladies, became fans of the music that way without realising it, now older, will likely go to the concerts too & possibly with their kids. You're not going to see a 20yr old guy from Mt Druitt wandering along with track pants, flano shirt, ugg boots ~and~ an ABBA T-shirt, that's for sure. I'm neutral myself, I respect they did some great songs, including the one you mentioned which hasn't been flogged to death by radio & media like Dancing Queen & others that probably make ABBA themselves wince when they hear them again, but I do like a lot of what's on ODF's list, even played some of that stuff in live bands. I never ended up buying any ABBA stuff, it was just everywhere you went, tv, radio etc. So whilst I wouldn't play their albums over & over, I respect they put together a lot of good clean music for many that appreciate it, especially those that wouldn't want to take their kids to heavy metal concerts etc. I'll just add, I don't think the name of the song you meant was "I Believe In Angels", I can't remember exactly but I think it was something like "The Dream", I could be way off...

I now seem to word associate ABBA with those kind of movies.... BS or drunken singalongs.

That's good though, if your daughter enjoyed it, that's the main thing. There's probably been plenty of drunken sing-a-longs using that music over the years, especially plenty of office ladies on a Friday night, but mainly ABBA had a clean sober family type audience & as you've seen first hand for yourself, peoples young daughters. If you're a guy finishing work for the day looking to have a few beers & put an album on, no I don't think it's for you...

It doesn't matter whether it's ABBA or Bay City Rollers or Ted Mulry Gang, people have the right to listen to what they want and although I am not a fan there is a market for every genre imaginable.
