+x+xTough game. If RFM or Morrin score we get in front and most likely go on with it for another win.
Strange saying that. Because we played terrible footy. Casey never stood out in reserves in the few games I watched. And was never great with the ball. He might improve but I have major doubts. He cost us the game.
I don’t understand why we can’t find tall strong backs who play good footy. Allamoti is the only one and the poor kid is injured so often. Lucky we have Gus here to find some new ones.
Coaching today I thought was poor. Kept turning the ball inside. Didn’t kick early for space. Maybe that was up to the players but they should have been told. You don’t try to run through Cronulla when they have a much better pack. You kick early, turn them around and chase hard. Maybe the last couple of weeks blinded us a bit. Our attack is still sub standard. Our defence is not bad but could be better. 18 points was not really a bridge too far. The loss of TPJ cannot be underestimated. We missed his power badly. We struggle to score points off strong backline movements. If we improve that and our go forward we are a top eight side. We missed Pangai and Thommo against Cronulla’s strong pack.
We have so much simple improvement that a decent coach can fix with minimal signings. Looking good for next year

+xReplacing Flanno might improve the attack, but it will weaken the defence, we need to be sure the replacement is ready. Wakeham seems like an adequate defender, but hasn't played any football recently. If we replace Flange it needs to be worth it. I would prefer to stick with him next year. Mahoney will make a huge difference. Obviously if the attack hasn’t improved we then know where to spend the money. But I would prefer to bring through juniors from here on in if possible.

BBO and Hayward are also possibilities but might not be ready for NRL. Potter has tapped most of the easier opportunities for improvement. 1. Promoting Kiraz. 2. Replacing Duffty with Averillo. 3. Promoting ZDC and Morrin. 4. Using the right side in attack. 5. Burton kicking for Fox. 6. Improving the defence.

In defence whenever we have a new edge combination they tend to make bad reads for at least one game.
In attack, we are often too shallow, execution can be off and Flanno doesn't come up with many try assists.
JMK and Averillo doing some kicking close to the opponents line is a good idea.

I think that there is a limit to what Potter can achieve with more team changes.
The question is if anyone currently at the club is ready to replace Flanno and is a better option.
The alternative approach is keep the same spine and backline, with 1 wing spot being contested, pick the best available forwards each week, grind away at improving combinations and execution.
This slow grind is more likely to be the best option.
Next season with Reed and Kicks we have an offseason to prepare and can tinker with the spine.

+xGreat to see S Broad set the record for most runs conceded in a test over… My 1 like actually represents infinity likes, I will die happy. Next step to invite Broad to dinner at a club, and replay the over on a big screen all night.

‘It was through no fault of the tackler and should not have been penalised “… refs boss on Verrils tackle..
I think the week before origin three is a great time to implement the ‘no fault stand down’ rule on field… the season of blokes getting penalised for touching a players head as the fall or dive is over!!!…
until next week…

It looks like QLD is looking to combat the Cleary chin with the Gilbert chin.
It's a chinathon

No game this week and bit of news from Gus on Twitter, but nothing major. Not much happening. Villi and I have beat all of our comedy material to death, and Villi is smart enough to know that we are not funny. Now Marki is taking over the stand up role.

+xI heard the site only had its 25th jab… Jeral Skelton. Big lad, but is he any good? Can't crack it for the first fifteen at the Melbourne Rebels. Hopefully his game is suited to RL. Any RL in his background?

I wonder if we are still getting the young gun from Fiji rugby 7s.
Both can play edge backrow, centre and wing.

Storm defence is away smoking pot in Bali.

There seems to be a lot of shit games this year. Never not watched or turned off so many games. Next year extra team with the consequential talent dilution. It would never happen but a 12 team comp, teams sensibly distributed, with two full rounds with home and away is about what the talent pool can adequately sustain.

Sharks are a good team, dummy-half is one if the best in the comp.
Good halves, good fullback, good fowards, good centres and wingers.
No weak links, good attack and defence, good balance in the bench rotation.

Storm, it's the vibe, thier mojo has gone missing, eithout Munster they lack variety.
Down a few troops, but plenty of experienced players in the side.
