+x+x+x+xWhat Cleary did tonight Burton will do for us. And in the big games.
They remind me of Johns and Fittler. Both fantastic kickers with all round games.
We need to surround Burto with players that compliment him. Kikau and Mahoney is a great start. Either Cleary will be an immortal or Burton isn't anywhere near the level coz the gap between them is huge. Yes he needs good platers around him, but Cleary is just as inexperienced and young and rarely plays a bad game and completely dominates. Chalk and cheese Cleary has a lot more NRL experience in the halves, Burton has lots of improvement to come. Hayward is more of a specalist halfback, at a young age his kicking and passing is good. Hsyward might lack the floating bomb, but Burton has it. At the opponents end Hayward has the vision and skill to execute good kicks. Luai isn't a bad player, but Burton is a better player. Luai clearly not well yesterday. Didn't see him do the "stacks-on" after the Penrith tries, although I missed the JFH try so not sure if he did it there. He wasn't even in the frame when the others scored. Luai is much more of a play maker than Burton right now and for the last few years. Doesn't kick long as well as Burton but he doesn't need to. He has Cleary for that. He's just a natural 5/8th. Can someone dig up the post from last year or the year before where the stated Romy was shit and he sit him on his arse please…

Chalk and cheese You do realise that Cleary is almost three years older. Has played almost 150 games and has been playing with the players around him since he was a baby.
Burton has just over fifty games. Half with his current team and has played out of position for most of his career in first grade so far.

You’ve been down on Burto since rd 1… I'm sure Burton will improve in a better team. But I hate it when player and manager stick their hand out for a bigger pay check when the player hasn't delivered on his current pay check. Got no problems him asking for top money at left centre. But to ask it at 5/8th and still needing a top halfback in the team so he can be "unlocked" is where I call BS. We are simply paying him.for his boot. And even that has a price ceiling. I can’t believe you can’t see the potential of Burto. DCE and Reynolds who you both think are superstars couldn’t take their teams to the finals. Burto was the main reason we won games this year.

+x+xThe Panthers have particular tackle styles that they use. One is - 2 players hold a guy upright and a 3rd guy lifts one leg only. CC and Gus will bring those techniques here. They also are given more leniency in the ruck than most… Teams that get the leniency have a strategy to tip the odds in their favour. The Panthers keep the guy upright but have strategies to drive them backwards and flip them over. They also regularly drag plsyers on the ground backwards. Once smart coaches realised that the game can be won at the ruck it was the begining of a blight on the game, surrendering in tackles, wrestle moves, moving off the mark, not standing before placing the ball, the list of bad crap is endless. However, if we want to beat them, we need to join them. The best way to get something made illegal is for the Dogs to do it.

Also Burto is a 5/8, not a halfback. I would not swap him for any other 5/8 in the comp. We need a good halfback, then Burton will reslly shine.

I saw the potential in Burton about 3 years ago where he was playing in the halves and nearly won a game in Golden point. Took about 5 field goals, hit the posts on 2 ocassions and missed the other 3 but I thought wow, this kid has potential. But here we are 3 years later still thinking this kid has great potential. Sure he played most of last year at centre and did it exceptionally well. No one is arguing that. But he hasn't done enough for me to say he is a top level 5/8th that can command top 5/8th dollars nor can he organise a team. For me, the jury is still out whether he is a Latrell or Manu or Inglis type player (better centre but can fill in at 5/8th) or he will make it as a top paid 5/8th. How many years do you give him? Do you think penrith has many regrets losing him after this year?

A lot of people from all different forums still think Burton is a centre, so I will keep sounding it out.... Burton is NOT a centre, he is a 5/8 that has had the luxury of being played out of position and absolutely killed it as a centre.

Re Taylan May. If he is suspended from Friday night can he serve the suspension in 2023, 4, 5 or 6? If he has to miss a match through injury can he bring it forward to the next game. If he has to miss more than 1 game through injury can he bring his 2 match suspension forward to this year? PVL is obviously very selective in his application of the rules around suspensions. As I've said before "flash as a rat with a gold tooth".

Outside Cleary and Kiks, inside To’o as well, behind a pack that dominated… I doubt a Dally M. At centre likely playing at the Tigers or say us… Peoples expectations way too high in his full first year as a first grade half… We all saw what he is capable of, another off season to build combos and a little more consistency will make a huge difference… A lot of people are idiots…

Caitlin Moran (or is it Moron) should be given a lifetime ban for comments she made about the Queen. It seems she is playing the indigenous card to justify the terribly dumb and ill placed post. It is time the NRL showed a bit of gumption. Ban her from playing in today's NRL Women's game. One post I read said it all...to paraphrase "it seems total stupidity is not the sole domain of the male Newcastle NRL team"

She had plenty of time to think before she wrote. It just shows she is of exceptionally weak character and is totally lacking in class. Contrast with "By his own admission, Nelson Mandela was an anglophile, and in the years after his release from prison cultivated a close relationship with the Queen," the Nelson Mandela Foundation wrote in a statement, sending condolences to the royal family. "They also talked on the phone frequently, using their first names with each other as a sign of mutual respect as well as affection."

But when he has plated 2 full seasons of first grade and has shown to be one of the top 3 centres in the game in 1 year but struggles to be one of top 6 5/8ths in the other year, you are drawing a long bow suggesting he is a 5/8th that was played out of position. I'd suggest you wait till he proves himself at 5/8th before making wild predictions like that. Even Lockyer and Inglis had to prove themselves over afew years before being considered suitable for 5/8th roles after excelling in other positions. Burton is no different. Prove yourself first.

He played enough games at 5/8th in that Panthers squad and didn't set the world on fire. Minute he plays centre for them (and even in origin) he excels. Like MDog stated below. He can be good at both. He has however only proven it in 1 position thus far. Potential is there. But it's also clear he needs a gun half to take responsibility away and unlock him. If we put our eggs in his basket and starve ourselves a top half, the decision can backfire. I'm hoping Gus can make this clear to both Burton and his manager.

+x+x+xCaitlin Moran (or is it Moron) should be given a lifetime ban for comments she made about the Queen. It seems she is playing the indigenous card to justify the terribly dumb and ill placed post. It is time the NRL showed a bit of gumption. Ban her from playing in today's NRL Women's game. One post I read said it all...to paraphrase "it seems total stupidity is not the sole domain of the male Newcastle NRL team" As long as staunch pro republicans and Meghan Markel fans go to work on the 22nd or leave without pay I’ll be happy… The post is in poor taste at very best… however deleting the post says more about the individuals character than the emotion driven content… It was hardly emotion driven. "They also talked on the phone frequently, using their first names with each other as a sign of mutual respect as well as affection." Am in no way defending the comments… Agree it shows a lack of class… as said the sign of character for mine is more deleting the post and not displaying courage of conviction…
I never understand people wishing ill on others or celebrating someone’s death … it’s happened on here, this year…
You only have to look at the headlines from MSM the last couple of days to see what plebeians are really concerned about.. what happens to our coins, do we get a public holiday, what happens to our existing public holiday, push for republic etc etc… That said, generational trauma is real… and not exclusive to indigenous Australians… and it’s a thing my Aboriginal mates are trying to ensure they don’t pass on to their kids like it was passed on to them as they don’t believe it helpful…

+x+x+xA lot of people from all different forums still think Burton is a centre, so I will keep sounding it out.... Burton is NOT a centre, he is a 5/8 that has had the luxury of being played out of position and absolutely killed it as a centre. Outside Cleary and Kiks, inside To’o as well, behind a pack that dominated… I doubt a Dally M. At centre likely playing at the Tigers or say us… Peoples expectations way too high in his full first year as a first grade half… We all saw what he is capable of, another off season to build combos and a little more consistency will make a huge difference… A lot of people are idiots… Its not the point. So he’s playing his first games in 1st grade, in a side that was missing 7-9 players on origin duty and he’s supposed to set the world on fire???… Do we really need a top half or just a good game manger to free up Burto???… I wouldn’t call the Cows halves guns… they’re one game from a GF…

+xExciting game, good semi final series, all ga mes are competitive. Interesting how the bunker and red stayed right out of things in extra time with things that normally draw a penalty… Im glad they did.. they should adopt that approach every week…
