So Zef, you see what I and probably everyone else in here sees. Lewis is shaping to be a first grader with talent and I agree with what you say he has balls of steel and a big ticker. He also has excellent RL genes and will be a thinking player. I believe he may be the one that will pull us through those last 15-20 minutes of our games because he reads the play so well. ATM though he is finding his feet and his rhythm but he'll get there.

just finished watching the press conference gee dean pay looked happy answering the journos questions , & deano also said there are still
4  positions  open in the dogs squad  or in English  we have some money available 2 make a few more player buys & we will
spend this money wisely for the right players  , i for 1  dont want cory oates not for the money he is asking  just another reasonable centre
would be a good  investment ,our forwards are still good though brett & josh morris will be sorely missed out wide

Dean's face was like a stone wall until the final whistle sounded and then he smiled like he was on Young Talent Time. Great to see.

Very impressed with Lewis. Only a rookie but defends like a seasoned veteran.

Cogger has no hope playing top grade unless he takes Forans spot.

Lewis is signed for two years so we don't have to force ourselves into a decision just yet. Next year we just pick the best 17 players and then find positions for them. If that best 17 includes Lewis, Foran and Cogger then Lewis plays in the centers. We don't have to make hard decisions yet so don't make it hard, just play your best 17.

2020 however Lewis is gonna be in demand season end and I'd say from his point of view he'll probably demand the #6 and to keep him we'll have to give it to him and it'll be an easy decision to make.

That's when a hard decision based outside of who's your best 17 will have to be made. And if Foran is fit and still playing he'll be in the last year of his contract so the automatic selection based on the amount we're paying him if not goes completely out the window, goes somewhat out the window. So then Foran can compete for a spot like everyone else.

There were some telling things about Lewis last night. He was MoM or close to it, at minimum the most influential player on the field, in a rocks and diamonds display.

He did as many poor things as good things, particularly in the first half, most around decision making - poor kicks, forced passing, over-calling for the ball and over playing his hand, yet despite that still the best player on the field and more importantly didn't let the f*** ups affect him not one little bit.

And two things that sum him up, that hit from.. whatsisname... Lewis was flattened like few have been and yet won the ptb, he should have actually got a penalty for the second effort to stop him getting up. Big balls.

Stopping that kick and regathering the ball. Stopping the kick with the leg out like that really is an amateur play, 9 times out of 10 results in six again. When he did it I thought you idiot, but the effort for the regather, getting up, winning the penalty. Biiiiiiiiiiiig balls.

From that second on I actually thought we'd win or not depending on whether Lewis could get us home. It was all on him and i think he's gonna be that sort of player. When the game's on the line, he steps up, don't shrink back - I'll get us home.

Huuuuuuuuuuuuuge nuts.

Good game! It looks like they are getting used to each other, so hopefully begin to trust one another. I thought late in the second half they shut up shop prematurely, attempting to protect the lead and were on the verge of letting another one slip away, but to their credit, they rallied together from that Lewis regathering, run and penalty and went on with the job. Still a long way to go, but it's good to see some entertaining footy re-appearing in our attack.

Actually Holland runs some very good lines and especially close to the line. If the hooker or halves or even forwards are alert, they could put hom through.

In fact if they did the same they too might score

Game day .. Go Dogs .....

I am hoping for an improved showing.....

The Tigers have been good the last couple of weeks..

We really need to lift our game and get our act together to be a chance of winning ....

All things considered, I would have preferred we did that last week, but if it happen I will take it...

I'm not going to have a dummy spit if we lose ... we don't have the cattle .. it will be a minor miracle if Pay can get us to win a few games...

Steve, the problem is, the written word and the spoken word are completely different. As you are aware, when you speak to someone your emotions and gestures let them know whether you are joking around or being serious. With the written word, there are no emotions connected to the words, therefore, the intention is ambiguous and what has been written can be interpreted any way by the receiver which may be entirely different of what was intended by the author.

Words of wisdom...and I can see the point. I guess I am the opposite to the new age parent...the one that when his/her kid rolls around the floor at the supermarket crying and screaming because they won't get a Freddo Frog for them and offers some sort of cosmic attempt to placate the kid. "Now if I buy you that there may not be one there for the kid who really needs one when he comes along"

Like I said....you HAVE to have 30 players in your top squad.
At 150k I think its mutually beneficial for both club and player. 150k in the real world is bloody good money so he shouldn't feel undervalued.
But he shouldn't be seeing first grade unless the first choice options are out.

No place in my Top 30 even if $1 :)

The other thing I have to say is I watched Woods last night for the Sharks, and he was ordinary ....

Prior looked like 3 X the player Woods was... I never thought I would be saying that at this part of the season...

I've now officially back-flipped twice on Woods...

When he was starting out, I though he was over rated...

Around the time he signed for us, I thought he was a good player and would add a lot to our side...

He started the season well for us and more or less played to my expectations (as did Foran) or the first 3-4 rounds..

But he seems to have got progressively worse .. last night he was ordinary full stop .. probably close to the worst prop on the field in the game...

My guess is that he has just mentally lost a bit of confidence and focus ... or in the old school terms ...we have played him out of form...

The Sharks might be able to fix he game and he may be good next year..... turning his form around this year looks like a tall order...

I'm now officially back to not rating him until I see him produce something like his 2017 form...

I can still remember a game where he single-handedly destroyed our pack .... a few years ago ... it is a hard to imagine now...

Much agree with you HD.
I was never a fan is signing him in the first place (mind you I was also never a fan of signing Fifita - another forward).
My thoughts on where the club spends the baulk of its money are well known on the BDP and I don't for a minute think im wrong here.
Time to focus on backs and halves.

As for Woods, I think he'll have to step up next year when the sharks lose Gallen, Lewis etc but I think he is alittle unsure how he fits into that team at the moment. You would think with that much competition, he would be looking to impress but I suspect having joined mid season, he is probably abit shy in being the assertive player is normally is.
