Nope won’t happen Dman because cheerleaders stand in one spot dancing, kicking the air etc

Lichaa would likely end up in Bay 13 row 5 with his fancy crab like footwork

If Steve, during his recent visit to Japan, didn't stay away from those aphrodisiac fish I warned him about, I suspect he too may have developed some fancy crab like footwork.
I can see it now, wandering into a Japanese topless bar like John Cleese from the ministry of silly walks with an self-induced agenda, saying to the bartender "If I can just finds out where it is I'm actually a goin', I believe I'll have another big orange"

Funny...I was asked if I wanted some pussy and I ended up in a Cat Café. Have to stop playing the Vapors only ever hit. Maybe this week is the time for the Lich to shine. BTW if not mistaken Parra scored zero points whilst he was on the field.

So 1Dog thinks the selection committee go after players without the coaches input/blessing.... please! So with that thinking.... I take it the cheerleaders pick the 1-17 each week too as Pay has nothing to do with that!

Please don't put words in my mouth.  I never said that Pay doesn't have any input. Of course he does, he's the head coach!

He just doesn't have full power and authority like what Des had(I said that). Des used to say jump and Dib used to say how high. Things changed a lot with this new board. There's a retention and recruitment committee with about six people on that committe including Pay(I said that). They need to all agree or at least come to the party.

Hahaha. Fair point....The selection committee got it wrong. Unfortunately I didn’t have full say in assembling the squad

For example, Mark Hughes was in Queensland last week looking at some potential recruits. He's got his eye on this gun playing in Ipswitch.
Obviously Pay hasn't got the time to travel and scout players because of his coaching commitments.

Hughes may approach this kid's manager or parents and ask the question whether he would consider playing for the bulldogs. Hughes will then get on the phone, ring Pay and say "This kid's got it, I can see some real good potential, I recommend giving him a go, I'm going to email you a clip to watch Deano, tell me what you think"
A day later Deano responds, "yeh I like what I saw, bring him down for an interview if he's keen, I'll get Opes' opinion on it as well"
The recruitment committe will then sit down and discuss it. Then they will ask Hill "Andrew what's the cap looking like, how much can we afford to Pay this kid" Andrew may respond, "well we got about $300k in the kitty to spend on development players"...Opes may respond and say "I wouldn't invest too much into this kid, I think no more than $100k, what do you think Deano, if we can get him for $100K would you be keen?" Then Deano replies "I'm keen, If Hughesy thinks this kid has what it takes, i'll give him a go"

A year later the kid turns out to be a flopp.....who's fault is it? Is it soley Pays fault or should Hughesy shoulder some of the blame? you tell me?

Like when Pie eater Cleal failed to jump on Lateral Mitchell, Conner Watson and Cameron Munster when they were offerd to us. Who's fault was that?

My point is, you cannot SOLEY blame Pay for bad recruitment, it's a team effort!

I have no doubt there is a committee, but Pay surely would have a big say/input into what he needs

That is an area where we fell down badly in the Hasler/Ceal era.

Assuming we now have it fixed, there is a 5 year lag on scouting that good young kid and turning them into a NRL player, all clubs are looking at the same players  and there are lots of reasons why a promising young player doesn't work out.

But as the Dogs will never be a big spending club it is important that at least 40-50% of our team is home grown talent and that can't all be local juniors.

Because the other thing wrong in the Ceal/Hasler era was we neglected local juniors and were poor on player development. We are then out bid on the best imported talent and are paying over the odds for average talent, which partially explains our current situation.

So I don't think we can judge Pay on squad assembly at this stage, it is still too early and there are headwinds to overcome.

We can judge Pay on what he does with the current squad,  which I still think is potentially good enough to finish 10th-14th.
So while the talent in the roster is a partial excuse, it is not a total excuse.
I'm liking Plan B more than Plan A, it is closer to my original Plan A.
So I would like to see Plan B get 2-3 weeks, if it does work then Plan C would need to work and quickly.
I'm hoping Plan B will be the last plan Pay makes, if not, I think Plan C will be the last plan he makes.

Played a few games for the Storm but had the same issues he had playing for us, dumb options, bad defence, lack of fitness.

IMO at the right price we could use someone like him playing off the bench, but as Bellamy couldn't fix his game, I wonder if Pay could.
My hunch is late in his career he is more likely to play to instructions and less likely to take dumb options, but he probably can't help himself.
One player who really wasted his talent, should have been one of the top forwards in the game, should be playing his best footy now.

We might do better, but it is hard to imagine at this stage. It always is before momentum swings.

I think the team improving, building combinations, young players developing, and strengthening the side via recruitment isn't a bad outcome.

I'm desperately hoping we play some decent footy, win a few games and avoid the spoon.

At least there is only one direction they can go :)

So what your saying is that there's currently a surplus of pies in Belmore since Cleal left?

Exactly that!

3 years ago, I went to order a pie at the leagues club bistro for lunch. The lady said they don't sell pies any more at the leagues club.
I said What? She said that they couldn't keep up with the Football club's meat pie orders from the leagues club. They hired a guy to walk down and deliver pies to the football club everyday. So they changed the process, Pie's get delivered straight to mr Cleals office at the Bulldogs football Club, Edison Lane, Belmore. She said it wasn't worth selling pies anymore because Cleal was eating them all. At that same time at Brookvale, all of a sudden the Meat pies in stock were building up over a 4 year period. They just couldn't work out why, so they hired an expert in cultural demographics to do a market analysis on the types of food people eat in the area and what the reason for the decline in meat pie demand was due to. To ths day they couldn't work out why from 2012 to 2016 the demand for meat pies decreased so badly.

Funny enough over the last two years the demand for meat pies in the brookvale area have shot through the roof....go figure

There is something in that, young guys get excited and lift the tempo...

I watched a bit of Tigers/Warriors the Tigers where impressive, the Warriors not as clinical as they were against us.

Our best chance in attack a bomb to the wings, we have a height advantage and Lewis is a good kicker.
Apart from that run at Benji if we want to make yards.

Defend well, complete our sets, and don't  push the pass, as bomb on the last is a good option this week. (Unless we need to).

So a win is not impossible, but we have to hope the changes fix the defence, Tigers are a fairly dangerous attacking side right across the park

I'm happy to see Okunbor and Meaney in the side, hopefully they are both part of the next 5 years. Plus having a guy with dreds gives the side a slight reggae advantage, and this weeks team must have more dance moves than last weeks.
