+xawful from so many angles firstly the energy was with the raiders all game- did the penrith game sap our energy - we looked older than them all game forget the dropped ball from tracey and kiraz - both had fairly good games despite and despite a good game by hutch and Burton shifting to either side of the ruck in attack why the effin hell is hutch kicking more than burton for distance and why no burton spirals this week and just one last week? Burton should get the ball in every play yet gets the ball some times never or just once in a set of six and hatch gets the ball always or we take a " tolman" settler 3 times in their 20m Crazy to keep Kikau on despite him being hampered and making errors as a result bereft of a game manager near the end there again! an important game to let slip and we slide back down the ladder now I would need to watch the game again to see what went wrong in attack. One thing that did go wrong was Kiks took some bad options and made a some errors. I am not sure if he was affected by the head high tackle. Might even be ruled out HIA. The Panthers game did probably take some petrol out of us. I agree with CC we drift into playing like strangers in attack and most games there is at least one try that we should stop. I think that we just need to form combinations. I do think that at times we look better with Hayward at lock. Somehow Reed, Mann and Hutch don't seem to combine well at this stage. I have noticed that in multiple games.

+xI had to get out of TK, they are tearing the team to shreds. I will admit there were many players that let us down, Kiks was playing injured and should have been rested and replaced. Burton' conversions have become a problem, too many ball hogs and Fix has lost his mojo. Canberra sre fvcking dirty pieces of shit and got away with a lot of foul play..the 2 binnings attested to their dirt. I hope this is the wakeup call they needed to get back into focus because our top 8 aspirations are starting to look tattered. I think that this is why Gus and CC are trying to manage expectations. I think that the conditions made the game tricky, but Canberra really aimed up. Tracey and Kiraz are 2 of our better players most weeks, but they started the game with uncharacteristic errors, that sums up the match.

Burto kicking is hot n cold. Some weeks he lands them 100%, other weeks 60%. He aint no El Masri thats for sure. Crichton should have a go.

+x+xBit of a wake up call for us, they wanted it more. I am not sure if Kiks was 100%. Work to do if we want to make the 8. Not terrible, but one of our worst performances this season. I knew Ricky would have them up for it. Spot on. Losing to the Lime Slime again just cemented the reity they've become our bogey side. Hutch played his best game ever for us and how ironic that we lost it even though the fans have been baying for a real halfback. Well our halfback tonight played out of his skin and we still lost it to the Slime. I don't think Hutch is our problem. Just too many errors and we lack patience at times. I think Critter should be taking goal kicks from Burton's weaker side. We also struggle to get up when we are favourites.

Shattered. We were our own worst enemy. I wonder if our boys are reading into the media hype too much. A terrible game and to be beaten by them, again, does not help.

Go and watch the replay...savage was in front of the kicker when he scored...I thought it was on live replay but they only played it once and replay proved it.

+xPeople are saying we only scored because the faiders are down men, but we were building long before to two binnings. Exactly, handling errors kept giving gifts to Faiders. Need to now build from here. Two quick trys while the 2 in the bin. Take advantage of the overlap.

+xThey need to keep scoring tries because Burto not so hot with the boot. Crichton to take the kicking duties moving forward I think (hope).

Nail biting match, hopefully we can post some points early in the second half and get the win.
Kiks injury is a worry.

+xKarl Oloapu finally spoke out about his neck surgery. Looks much better. Running again and on track for a pre season.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t comeback but I’m hope he does. He would fit in very well with our smaller forwards I think that he will slot in at lock. I hope he comes back, but I also hope that he is OK. Brave to keep playing, hopefully he is getting good medical advice. Definitely ease him back into the game.

+x+xSame 17, Farmer, Taffee, Sexton, Wilson and Turpin reserves. I think that all of the lads will travel to Brisbane. Outside of injuries Farmer is an outside shot IMO. Most likely injury Kiraz, Taaffe or Wilson would come in. Any of the possible 17s should be good enough to beat Canberra. I see this game as similar to the Tigers, Canberra will be determined and we need to be wary of a fast start from them. High completions ball movement and keeping the ball in play should wear them down. A dry track is ideal, current forecast high chance of showers morning and afternoon. My gut feel, it will not take much for the rain to stay away. We need to knock over the Raiders. A convincing win and we are finals bound this year. It is an important game for us, the majority of fans and experts now agree that we are a top 8 side. We need to prove that we are a top 8 side by winning, regardless of how well the Raiders perform. Reviewing our season todate we have often made more yards, more line breaks and had better field position than our opposition. We lost a few games when our dominance suggested that we should have won, even against the Storm in Melbourne. Looking at our attacking structures, I would not change any of the spine players and I would stick with the Mann / Hayward rotation at lock, perhaps the only change being give Mann more minutes at the back end. The last 3-4 weeks we have set up attacking structures very well at the opponent's end. I haven't rewatched the Souths game but that stands out as the game in which we didn't take opportunities. I also think Mann, Hutch and Tracey are better at throwing short passes than many think they are. Burton has even shown some vision and execution on long passes that wasn't there last season. We need to improve our end of set kicking at the opponent's end, perhaps Marhoney, Tracey or Hayward taking the occasional kick might help. Defensive lapses all need to be tidied up, IMO Hello Kitty, Taaffe and Turpin made the biggest errors. I might relent and keep Salmon in my side just because I don't 100% trust Farmer. However, what I remember is Farmer is pretty good. So really we don't need radical changes in team composition, defensive structures or attacking style, just a bit more focus and attention to detail at the right times and practice, practice, practice.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xNot too unhappy with the result given we didnt play well amd only lost by 6... But i made a comment earlier in the week that we need more creativity in the halves than Burton+Hutch as they are only good for feeding early ball to outside backs If that gets nullified, they dont have any other trick shots. Tonight it showed. Could have won the game, but not the end of the world given Panthers will be a top 4 side. Its the others we must beat. Burton in 6 is the right choice, the only option is to change the 7. IMO we are 3 team changes off being the best that we can be. 1. Preston to start, drop Salmon. 2. Patolo to start, King to bench OR add Sutton/Farmer to the bench. 3. Sexton to replace Hutch, or move Hayward to half. If we promote Sexton try Taaffe at halfback in reserves. Dropping Hutch and Salmon might weaken the defence, but Salmon misses a few tackles, makes dumb errors and offers nothing in attack. We might find that the attack is worse without Hutch, but there is only one way to find out. The alternative to team changes is learn the lessons from the loss and tidy up tackles, errors and discipline. If we miss fewer tackles we save some energy, because we don't need to scramble as often. I would work on these things and change the team - do both. As i mentioned on the TK....dont pay much attention to the misd-tackle stat. It is useless to look at it on its own. You can have 5 miss-tackles 1 on 1 near your tryline and leak 5 tries for 30 points, or you can have 55 miss-tackles (supposedly) and only cop 2 tries -like last night. Penrith players have a habit of poking and probing their runs into the defence looking for an opening. This usually drags 3 or maybe 4 defenders into the tackle. Some of them drop off and it gets counted as a miss. Its a useless stat. We did everything right defensively and frustrated them. It was abit of a lapse in concentration on the spilt ball that led to To'os try but you can see in his celebration how much relieved they were to finally crack us. Havent seen Riff rattled like that for a long time. Game was lost in attack. Not too dissimilar to Souths game and Storm. We can carry these halves against half the competition and win. But against better opposition who can match us in defence, we need more creativity. Ive been a supporter of Hutch, but he was clearly playing to instructions and told not to run the ball. He passed well before the line and attack was easy pickings. Taaffe is a far better FB chiming in on the right than Tracy is. Tracy is better on the left. Burton, i have no idea what position he played in the second half. I honestly thought he was left centre even though Xerri was still there. He went MIA again. Yes, he scored, but it was a centres try. I dont expect any changes. It was a game where our weapon (Kikau) had a fairly poor game and wasnt helped with no other plays in our arsenal. As i noted, this team and structure will be beat about half the teams in the comp. This in itself might be enough to keep everyone happy. I know i eould be happy to see us play finals this year -even if we went out in week 1. But if we want to thibk about going deeper, we need to sort out the lack of creativity in the halves. Either Hutch has to be told to park the gameplan of early hall and play eyes up footy, or try Sexxy, Taaffe or even BBO if hes available. Mate. Did you watch the game.
We made six linebreaks to the Panthers three. If we finished those chances we win the game. It was Panthers great scramble defence that stopped those try’s.
One line break assist from the Panthers Luai. Zero from Cleary or any other player.
Three line break assists from us. One from Critta one from Burton. And one from Xerri that came off a Burton pass to Xerri.
Plus Burton scored a try. He was the main reason why we were in that game. If he wasn’t let down by Kiks, Xerri and Fox from dropped ball and poor decisions we win that game. Yes i watched our game. Alot of our line breaks involved a kick at some point which introduces abit of a lottery. Would like to see us turn those half breaks on the fringes to draw and pass against the final line of defence rather than kick. Thats how you convert a higher number of them into certain points. The pass wont always be on - i accept that. If its not last tackle, you can afford to take the tackle, aim for a quick PTB and spread to the side with low defensive numbers. From memory, only the Xerri forward pass to Foxx play was a non-kick play. The others from Foxx and Kiraz were both lottery plays that dont always come off. The pleasing thing is that we created such plays. The unfortunate thing is that we were forced into a kick rather than pass, and the Panthers were able to shut the play down. With abit more polish and composure, we can convert more of these chances to points. So you've gone from 'we have no creativity' to 'its pleasing we created'... It's a step forward... You even posted a completely positive post today without referencing yourself... I gave it a like... You're building... Just like the Team... 😁 I was testing to see if you were still around... Knew that post would trigger you. You're like a hawk. Speaking of the Hawks....they won back-to-back games this weekend. Positive signs all around. You're too clever for me... Great to hear the Hawks, whoever they are won consecutive games on the weekend... We did that once in social sport after our real opposition turned up 3 hours late. They were accounting, HR and insurance....so nearly as soft as AFL players.
