What's  so magic about the magic round?

Where else can you witness the sleight of hand of  8 referees 6 again calls, the seeing the unseeable and unseeing the seeable of the bunker, the mystery of the judiciary, on the same ground, over 4 days... all wrapped up in yet another idea the NRLolC pinched from another sport???...

Roll up, roll up...

and not the good roll up...

Who wins the spoon in a conference system?
It would be a good money spinner for the NRL to have a wooden spoon play-off.

The relegation battles in the English Premier League soccer tend to be more interesting and higher on emotions than the top of table clashes. Probably as the title is often won well before the last games, but relegation spots often come down to last game.

Question:

Are aircraft windows designed for kids or midgets?

I'm only 5'11 and my seated sight line is over the head of a window on a 737. I have to contort my neck just to get a horizontal view outside.

Who do they design these for?

I would love to win this game, it would send their season into a tailspin.

I know it is going to be very hard to win.

I would like to see us run plenty of traffic at Mitch Moses, just play every yardage set on that edge.

Love the conference system. Especially if we add a few more teams to get back to twenty. Just add the Central Coast Bears and Perth. Alongside the proposed second Brisbane and NZ.

Both conferences have a top five. The fairest finals system. And a ‘Super Bowl’

I also like the idea of a wooden spoon game.

The great thing about a conference system is all teams in the conference play the same sequence of games.

The only time the diffences in the strengths of the conferences count is in the final Superbowl play off.

I bet there are plenty of times when the team from the weaker conference wins.

Expansion and a wooden spoon play off is good.

Teams from both conferences who miss the semis could play a combined 9s tornament, with the final of the 9s at the Superbowl. As teams drop out of the semis, they could be added to the 9s, with other losing teams dropping out.

Clubs can use the 9s to give young kids a run.

With more options for TV games, we will get more Sunday afternoon games.
Best times for TV don't always suit fans... e.g. Thursday and Friday nights.

Are there enough Pacific Island players to support the extra teams. We don't have the quality players to support the teams we have, don't dilute it any further.

What a load of garbage that thankfully won’t get off the ground, won’t get past tomorrow. Who comes up with this crap, Gus.

If we were stupid enough, and you could take this year as example because ANY year can be just as lopsided, you’d have Melb and..... who? maybe Canberra having having their worse year in half a decade fighting it out in one conference and Easts, Souths Penrith, Lemons in the other.

So for the foreseeable future, next few seasons at least, it’d be Melb v ?? In the Super Bowl. LOCK IT IN.

This is gonna die just as quick and hard as the Euro Football Super League and Gus can then start working on his other stupid obsession the draft, which will die just as quick, and then maybe PVL will stop listening to him.

I am for expansion regardless of conferences...

There is lots of talent out there that never gets a chance.

However, we need to beef up the SC rules to ensure talent is more evenly distributed.
I always liked a discount for service including the lower grades, a transfer fee can be a way of purchasing that years of service discount from the developing club. There can be a cap on transfer fees and a standard rate.

Expansion will also open up more junior areas....

We could do a better job of the transition from school to the NRL including competing with other sports.
Done right expansion brings in more money, money brings more talent.

The main concern is junior players dropping out of the game, a few extra teams makes no difference.

Melbourne or the Roosters are in the GF most years now anyway.

More QLD teams would breed more QLD rivalry, the Broncos and Cows both struggling is vety unusual.
If anything that is an opportunity for a new QLD team to make a mark year 1.

The Broncos are a problem their junior catchment is way too large and has bred complacency.
If they get their act together they will be a powerhouse, they have a lot of talent, too much talent.

Really what matters is the evenness of the comp and the quality of the the contest each week along with the rivilary.
If one conference is weaker then most teams are equally matched.
The stronger sides in the weak conference still need to play teams in the other conference.

I recon we would find more often than not that the GF for each conference is a contest.

We have some dud one sided GFs now.

We never got it right when the Broncos were added to the comp, it is slowly getting more right. But 2 teams in South East QLD is a joke. 4 is more like the right number.

In simple terms 3 GFs are better than 1, 3 dud GFs in the one year would be unusual. One dud, GF, that happens about 30% of the time.

Whut?

There’s only one GF, and there’ll still only be one GF because the GF is where you win the comp.

Whatever you win out of the other two things isn’t the comp.

Would you be celebrating winning The Sydney Conference and then losing the big one? Would you get a T-Shirt with Sydney Conference Champions on it, buy the DVD, load up on memorabilia?

It’d mean nothing until you beat Melbourne in the big one.

It means something if the players think it does.
They can award a trophy...

Often now the best games are GF qualifiers...

If we are playing the Eels in the Conference final, I want to win, and I want to win and the GF the following week.
Of the 2, the GF is the big one.

What you are missing is Brisbane rivalry is bigger than Sydney rivalry, if it is 2 Brisbane teams in the GF qualifiers, I can guarantee on the day the other Brisbane team is only thinking about beating the Broncos.

Daley is right the 2 best teams might not meet in the GF, that happens now, but there are 3 opportunities for the 2 best teams to meet in a game with a trophy.

The other alternative is go straight from  conference GF qualifiers to a 4 team semi final system, playing the team from the other conference.

We would assume that the 2 best teams in the conference mostly win the GF qualifiers,  if they both beat the team from the other conference they meet in the GF.

This is the same number of games but avoids conference finals.

They can try both and see which one works best, or have a vote.

Overall this system is better.

Spoon playoff worst idea ever... No club would agree to it to begin with...

Conferences not far behind when it comes to crap and yet another NRLolC ‘innovation’ ripped off from another sport...
Out of Sydney teams travelling for most of their finals, Sydney teams jump on a bus or drive...
I expect a week off before the GF will be added to the mix...

Hey NRLolC, just fvck off and stop ‘innovating’... Other than taking the corner post out of play and the 40-20 every other ‘innovation’ has been a complete fvck up... massive corporate wankers...

Modelling our competition structure on the NFL!!! WTF the yanks gear everything on making profits, the bottom line is $$$ they don't give a fvck about the game it's just used as draw card. Just remember up until 30 years ago there were two league competitions. The queensland comp  "conference" and the Sydney comp "conference" and the sudo GF became the SOO so why try to reinvent what we already have, on top of what we already have. Fvcking stupid idea just like 6 agains.

If the pretence of a conference system is to increase number of Sydney ‘rivalry’ games then just draw it like that... the fvcking draw is a manufactured concept without rhyme or reason anyway...  oh excerpt ensuring Broncos get nearly all Fri night games and Dogs first 8 weeks are against mainly top 8 sides from the previous year...
