Plus the ball is fed squarely into the centre of the tunnel giving both hookers a fair chance to rake for the ball.

We have a similar issue to the AFL.

NRL Sydney comp with added teams, AFL Melbourne comp with added teams..

The one big change in Australia is Brisbane is a growth powerhouse that is under represented inthe NRL and the AFL.

In most other places in the world, a national comp is a national comp.

While it is a smaller sport, soccer has a better national comp than NRL and AFL.

AFL is at least in every state, with 2 Sydney teams.

Does it matter? All depends if soccer can lift the standard of play, there are only so many TV dollars to go around and viewers in all states and regions is an advantage.

Our NSW cup team only afew years ago, won the NSW Cup GF against the Jets at Leichardt while the Dolphins won the QLD one.

We then won the interstate GF as the pregame to the NRL GF. 

It's not insignificant. I'm sure the Dolphins consider their QLD cup triumph as a GF achievement.

I don't mind old style scrums, but there were lots of penalties and lots of 50/50 calls and plain wrong calls.

When I watch old games, I genuinely think modern games are better, it is very different, players are more athletic and skilful. How modern players would go playing under the old rules is hard to judge.

I guarantee you their QLD GF win is on their honour roll. In fact I'll take a photo of it next time I go there.

I'm  not so concerned about winning  the scrum as having the forwards in the  scrum  pushing with the opportunity  to destroy their scrum and effectively  keep them out of the play for a couple of tackles. 

Mate I was there and I celebrated on the field with guys like Martin, Harper, Bergamin, Eastwood, Okunbor, Kerr, Eastwood.

It was a great day and didnt matter if we had lost to the dolphins a week later or not.

Think what you like, but no team will rubbish their conference success only because they may have lost an interstate final after it. 

Sure they would want to win all trophies but I didnt hear you guys bat an eyelid when the Dogs didnt win the World Club Challenge in 1996 and 2005....

Nobody said they’d rubbish the conference success... Stop making stuff up as is your wont... it was said that with an actual conference based GF on the line 1 game later it would mean nothing... nothing...

Anyway Mock and Villi... let’s plan to go to a game this season... at best we enjoy the day... at worst we are banned from attending NRLol games for two years for brawling and make the paper...

This stupid thing’s not coming in anyway, but let me just make the point The Conference Champion thing would become a source of mocking if a GF, a real GF win didn’t follow it the following week.

Just say we won The Sydney Championships woo hoo! And then lost the GF to say Newcastle. And then a Newcastle fan says to you “Congratulations on your Sydney Championship”.......

There’s better ways to expand and restructure the comp. They want to expand, then the argument for and against lack of talent doesn’t make much difference between 18 or 20 teams. If it won’t work with 20, it won’t work with 18, if you got plans to address the issue with 18 teams, you can do it with 20.

So first address the issue, and I do note even with the stupid idea they’ve got some planning on development included so run with it... harder.

Then go 20 teams, everyone plays each other once, swapping home and away every year. 16 Teams playing 24 rounds  gives you 192 games regular season, 20 teams playing 19 gives you 190, so there’s no great loss of TV product. And you can go to 10 team semis for even extra money.

And of course you got an extra 5 weeks to solve so many scheduling problems. You can have Origin only rounds with Pacific Tests, expanded Women’s comp, think of whatever you want, Combined NSW & QLD cup city and country teams in a round robin running over the origin period, maybe even an International Aus v NZ and/or England - you got an extra 5 weeks. How about a knockout comp.

There’d be more product, with less load on the players.

And a much, much fairer comp with greater integrity. Everybody plays everybody. The only thing being Home and away being alternate but you can’t have everything.

Bight the bullet, be brave, go to 20, address the player pool.

A competition can have no integrity when there’s teams make the semis.... and I guess they’ll call them “playoffs”.... simply because of what conference they play in.

You can take the competition right now as a snapshot. 5 out of the top 6 are Sydney Teams. With the stupid system St George would not make the semis while the raiders, Titans and warriors would even though the Dragons have won more games than them.

And this would happen EVERY year.
