+x+x+xThe first 3 tries in reserve grade were from Lewis kicks, that is the kind of evidence that changes my mind. His passing game has improved at least in reserve grade and if he attempts fewer long passes he is halfway there. It only counts when players can do it in the NRL, and do it consistently. We will get the most value this season from improving our 5th tackle kicks. The other thing that will make a difference is one more prop or a big backrower. Ava seafood salad has been a big success, we need one more like him. After round 10 it seems that development players can play, I hope we can squeeze one more forward in somewhere. Sooner or later Flanagan will improve or Baz will lose patience and give Lewis or Wakeham a shot. I'll take the first one that can consistently put in good 4th/5th tackle kicks and as I said yesterday I hope the hookers can throw in a few more grubbers close to the try line. My interest in reserve grade this year is I can see we need a bit more in the NRL this year. It will be a much more enjoyable season and everyone at the club will be happier if we find that something extra. The players we are missing don't need to be elite, just hard working and reliable. Okunbor or another big winger might help. He said he was gonna start rotating youngsters through the team after round 10, if they’ve earned the shot. Yeah I know. I think the team should go better and/or young players will get valuable experience. 10% improvement will have us in the mix to beat all but the top 6, and make the top 6 work harder for a win. 10% will have us lose by less than 20 - not compete. We need 100% improvement to compete. We are well behind on many many stats. And the stats dont lie.

In turn kicking game and yardage do a lot to determine posession. The other factor is ruck dominance. Did you watch the Tigers / Dragons game? There was lots of dropped ball, the Dragons are a big step down in class from the Eels. To beat the top 6 consistently we need something like 50%+ improvement, almost impossible to do this year.

+x+xI was against the signing at the time. I wanted a more experienced halfback because I was fed up with losing and thought the team needed that. It I’m happy to stick with him now we are playing the long game Well I’m not gonna continue to tell you blokes what you thought “at the time” when you can go back starting at page 784 and read it yourself.... or amend it.... or delete it (but before you do, consider a bloke with PDF writer might have been there too). You Mick, come in page 787. “The Flanno signing reminds me of the Hodko signing. Calm, composed general with a great kicking game.”
Yeah, sounds like you were against it “at the time”. Lol. Yes I did say that after he signed. But I was certainly against it leading up to it. I tend to back the players no matter what after the fact.

Is anyone surprised that T Baz pre-season didn’t go after Daine Laurie considering he coached him at the Panthers?
The kid has done well, love his support play, has a pass on him too & wouldn’t have cost much.

The fact that you didn’t nominate Laurie as a possible bye until he cracked a ton in SuperCoach... You were too busy looking to reignite Kevin Lockes career...

I've heard whispers from over in the doghouse that there is some news on the cheese and Rudolph that should surface around Wednesday. I have no idea of the weight of the rumour or the reliablity of the source. I guess by Wednesday we'll know if it's a hoax or not.

+xIs anyone surprised that T Baz pre-season didn’t go after Daine Laurie considering he coached him at the Panthers? The kid has done well, love his support play, has a pass on him too & wouldn’t have cost much. The Fox may have been promised first crack at fullback and Burton first crack at halfback. There are only so many promises we can make. We saw how that went with Cotric, the coach has final say on team selection. If we did make those promises their existing teams can't match them. Laurie is a talent but the Fox and Burton are elite talents that will make our negotiations with other players easier. I'll go out on a limb and say both are likely to succeed in thise positions, if that is the deal. The deal only lasts if they deliver, or if we are winning games. It is easier to stick with an experiment if the team in winning. In the case of Burton 6/7 is just a number. We want both players to be happy at the club, so we need to make sure they settle in well. Same deal with the Cheese if he is coming he may want to be 9 and if that is the deal we are wise to stick to it. Not forever, but they need to get a fair crack. That might be the deal with Flanno, for a young half the coach may have said you have 10 rounds regardless. Word will get out if we don't honour our promises, 10 rounds is a fair shot. It it doesn't work out the players will be happy to move after a fair shot. We will not be making up the numbers rounds 1-10 next season. The players know winning is the best guarantee of selection. Of course I am only guessing, but we will be happy regardless.

I fully support the piss head recruitment drive... I’d reckon Burto and JAC would also murder a hundred schooners if the opportunity presented...

Don’t mean to be Negative Nancy on this but it must be noted the bloke who started this on The Kennell it’s his first and only post. And his reasoning is flawed - because Warburton started following Cheese on Instagram. Well Warburton also follows Radley, Cook, Grant, RTS and a few others past and present. Doesn’t mean there’s no other substance to the smoke, not least of which Tom talking to the bloke, flying to Melbourne to talk to the bloke. But The Kennel’s just picked up on that and added their own to it, nothing more.

Zef, I don't normally listen to rumours, but I thought it may change up the pace of our conversation in here. You know, something else to chat about instead of ragging out Marki all the time.

Another member posted that two of his sources said the cheese was either close or signed. That member was right about JAC and Burton snd a few others. It certainly wouldn’t surprise me if we sign the cheese.
What are everyone’s thoughts though? The Cheese doesn’t currently have the fitness to play hooker. Will he work out?

I have been reading the place from the start as well. And you’re right about kids and egos. And for the majority very true. However a small number of posters on there do seem to have very good tack records. Kids do grow up and some may have good contacts within the club.
