Steven Lowy calls full time on football dynasty “Steven Lowy announces he will end 50 years of his families involvement in soccer , revealing he will end his tenure as Chairman of the FFA ....” (then the paywall gets in the way) https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/steven-lowy-calls-full-time-on-football-dynasty/news-story/3831c8f1ee1483ead4df43d9ffea4aa0

lol you’d expect Gallop would be spitting out his cornflakes this morning and calling in sick while he updates his CV .... “Cricket Australia here I come ....”
This though is one of the most significant moves in Australian football and the fact Lowy reveals it in the Australian and not via direct communication to the “football family” says it all.

The difference is that Gallop has a contract for the next 2 years. Lowy is an elected member so all it would have taken to remove him was enough votes when the new congress is sorted. To remove Gallop, he would need to be in breach of the contract or come to a an agreed mutual termination.

Yep pleased to see the changes at the top. Notwithstanding that, we should not forget the massive contribution the Lowey family has made to Football in this country.

Probably very little before November. It is the whole board that needs to go. Lowy is the spokesperson/leader. He is not the ruler. The angst displayed on the forum should be directed at the board and Lowy, not just Lowy. “I’m taking myself out of the equation because for those that want a different outcome to the board and what the board believes in, I and my family are used as a distraction to the real issues."
This is the key issue., "the board." "He hit out at the mostly foreign club owners who, he claimed, would starve the grassroots of the sport of funds if mooted corporate governance changes were ratified within the next three months."
"Mr Lowy said if such a scenario unfolded, soccer’s grassroots could be starved of funds that would instead be diverted to the clubs and players, who have long argued they deserve a greater share of broadcast and sponsorship income and higher wages."
Why should a cent of the broadcast rights and anything else raised via the A-League be diverted anywhere but to the A_League.? The funds would go where they should have in the first place.

It is such a non issue, set a percentage of revenue that the top league has to give to the FFA/Lower leagues and get out of the way of letting the top league maximise that revenue.
Thankyou for all your family has done but I really think this is a good move.

Am I missing something? Doesn't "the grassroots" pay a massive subsidy to the FFA through registration and academy and other fees just to keep the FFA in the manner to which they are accustomed. How will the A League being separated into a new Commission/corporate entity cost us more?

+xThank you to you and your father for everything you have done for the game Agreed but it was long overdue. Not saying change for the sake of change but new blood is needed to take the game further. We've been stagnant for way too long. Good luck to Mr S Lowy and his pile of cash. Maybe you can still be involved in football by funding a new HAL franchise :)

How will the A League being separated into a new Commission/corporate entity cost us more? Massive subsidies my arse. Have a look at the registration breakdown. It's fuck all. Having said that he had to go. BUT grassroots needs to be protected here. The worst result would be the top 1% of participants stripping out 90% of the money in the game.

How will the A League being separated into a new Commission/corporate entity cost us more? This season my registration fees put $14 towards the FFA. I don't know if I am just financially better off than others, or maybe I am so financially illiterate that i don't see it, but $14 is hardly a massive subsidy, sorry but too many people continually whine about the fees paid to the FFA, really? If $14 extra on your rego fees is too much, I think you have bigger financial issues.

+xDeparts the game in a cowardly fashion just like his old man in the 80s says a no name on an internet board. Really pretty pathetic comment to make. It is very easy to throw rocks from the sideline. At least he and his family stood up and contributed.
