Super Rugby TV ratings were through the roof beating Socceroos WC games and yet there was no Australian team in the final.

In regards to taking on two games a week? I'd imagine they're in a bit of a holding pattern whilst the independence issue is sorted, which in turn dictates on whether TEN likes the direction the game is heading to invest in.

That makes sense, but wouldn't they have a say in the fixturing if they were to get more involved? especially when the rumour is saturday and sunday night games is their preference? we're hearing the fixture will be released at some point next week. I'm starting to think the statsus quo will remain next season when it comes to TV rights.

Kayo has surpassed 300,000 subscribers.

some AFL games on Foxtel on the weekend were akin to HAL numbers. Freo v Eagles 60k. Suns v Tigers 71k. no doubt the FTA and Kayo numbers would have been much higher, but those pay TV ratings have to be alarming for Foxtel.

Those numbers are very low, AFL is definitely going backwards

I was thinking this too. Was watching the games and the crowds were lower than usual.

Anyone else got data to back this up or is it just me?

Which games? Perth and adelaide had derbies so full houses. The MCG games topped 50k, GWS was empty from what i saw.

So is there a suggestion that AFL viewing on Fox is down while Kayo subscriptions are up?

Perhaps, but maybe it also points towards wider changes in how people are viewing sport these days. Puts the A-leagues decline in Foxtel numbers into context.

FIFA just released the viewing figures for [Women's World Cup] final. Largest audience wasn’t in USA. It was in Brazil where almost 20 million viewers watched. Globo TV’s share was 41.7, blowing away Fox’s 27.

Impressive numbers, especially in Brazil where their team wasn’t even playing in the match.

I take it there wont be any ratings for WSW v Leeds as its on bein sports. I'd expect 32k tops metro and region combined.

Very very very interesting article on viewing in the US ... my guess is we are similar ... this certainty highlights two things IMO one you must be broadcast in clubs, pubs, etc so Fox, Optus or even things like Bar TV are important and to be both streamed and on fixed broadcasting the articles looks at age groups and how they watch.

https://www.nielsen.com/us/en/insights/article/2019/for-the-win-out-of-home-viewers-of-fall-sports-on-linear-tv-are-engaged/

First bit copied... lots more in the article including charts and stats...if interested in this kinda stuff...

Younger consumers, typically Millennials, are always on the go—from visiting family to working out to connecting with colleagues at happy hour. While they live busy lifestyles, they also like to stay connected to what’s happening with their favorite sports teams. And that means these highly engaged viewers look for ways to stay connected to the latest scores and catch a game regardless of where they are.

Across the many places to catch a game, restaurants, bars and someone else’s home are top destinations for fall sports viewing and social engagement.

Netflicks and Fox getting together according to an article on the News site .. https://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/design/foxtel-launches-netflix-integration-new-user-interface/news-story/ee0a82c2659f764bf9bbc8d27af2e892

This bit I found interesting in the article...

In its latest financial results released in May, Foxtel lost 100,000 broadcast subscribers from 2.5 million in the previous quarter to 2.4 million but had encouraging growth in its streaming products Kayo (209,000 subscribers) and Foxtel Now (505,000 subscribers)
