The A tour is a joke, mostly one day games and then a couple of FC games after the Ashes squad will have already been picked. If CA was going to use the A tour as something that would effect selection then there would be more FC games earlier. It seemed like a good idea but I think Paddles is probably it is just going to be used to keep back one day players fit just in case there is an injury that needs to be replaced during the world cup. The squad will be full of players who just miss out of the WC squad, players like Mitch Marsh, Stoinis, Darcy Short, Aston Turner.

Not according to CA public relations people. They say the A tour will have a considerable bearing on who is chosen for the Ashes. It will be used primarily as prep for the test only players such as Tim Paine..possibly Kurtis Patterson too to acclimatise to Pom conditions but is also a chance for the selectors to see how fringe players handle Pom conditions.

Tassie dominating the first two days against South Aus in Adelaide.

Wade scored 77, but isn't on the radar for Ashes selection. despite being top Shield scorer so far.

Bird took 3-52, Meredith 2-40 odd.

I don't even know who Wakim is, but he has scored 79 in Tassie's first dig.

South Aus all out for 257, Tas are 3 - 238.

The third day already. The Blues will be wanting Patterson and Sangha to push on an build a solid lead over the WA boys. Another overcast day in Sydney.

The Bushies will be using easy batting conditions to get as close to the Bulls as possible. I was looking forward to watching Pucovski but he went cheaply.

The most docile deck in the country will continure to offer plenty of runs for the Tigers. The Redbacks may regret not playing a specialist spinner.

A soft dismissal by Cameron White has the Bushies in some trouble now.

Betting Liam Guthrie's nickname could be after the American folk singer of the late 60/70s Arlo Guthrie.

I am liking the application being shown by Jason Sangha.

Patterson is in that region of uncertainty for him. Between 50 and 100. All too often in the past he has fallen about now denying himself centuries.

The Redback attack is having trouble extracting anything from this lifeless Adelaide track.. even with the Dukes.

Always the way.. praise someone and they get out shortly after.
The 19 year old has admitted he has struggled with the pressure of expectation. The media needs to stop talking up these outstanding under age  cricketers until they at least have some success in senior red ball cricket.

Guthrie is making Patterson wait for his century until after lunch. Three beaut outswingers beat the stylish leftie.

Charlie Wakim appears to have been a astute pick up by Tassie cricket. His well compiled ton on the lifeless Adelaide Oval deck is anchoring the Tigers to a big first innings lead.

Patterson goes for 134 the second superb century of the match after Bancroft.

These two provide what all batsmen crave..  the ability to occupy the crease for a long time by placing a steep price on your wicket.

Fair to say it was a blessing in disguise when Nic Maddinson was cut from the Blues and decided to move interstate. The enigmatic leftie has had two knocks for the Bushie.. with two centuries. He is presently averaging @252

Wonder what my old sparring partner Mike would be saying about Kurtis Patterson now. Mike never rated him..I did. I maintained there was no stopping him once he started scoring hundreds.. He has something like four triple figure scores in his past five matches.

By playing one day games, give me a break, they are either lying or have no clue.

Tasmania is all over SA, should win from here. Outstanding debut from Wakim, one to watch until the end of season to see if he can do it again.
QLD well on top but this one might end up as a draw. Renshaw just out for 47, I guess something of an improvement but he needs more runs.
NSW is way on top but again this might end up as a draw. Patterson showing why his is in the test team. Nevill showing why he was extremely harshly treated when he was dropped for not being able to bat.

I did ask when they announced the schedule why are they even playing one limited overs game. There are three or is it 4 four day games.. including the one between the two Aussie sides. That match could well determine the Ashes lineup. Otherwise why play it.

The Bulls are motoring ahead. The Bushie quicks are going to have to produce something special to win this.

There are 5 one day games and 2 FC games, one is a 3 day game and one is the 4 day game against Australia touring squad. That match is from 23-26th of July and the Ashes first test starts on the 1st of August. 6 days later. There is absolutely no way the squad is not going to be named before the game and the Australian team will be the test side unless there is injuries or something extraordinary happens.

Could be three draws the way things are set as Weatherald and Head have put on a good partnership for SA. Tasmania still has to be favourites.

A big innings from Charlie Wakim on debut -160!

It looks like he has moved from Sydney to here.

It could be a lot cooler in Adelaide today which should help the Tas attack - if the clouds are gathering like they are here.

Still going to be 37 today and only getting hotter as the week continues.

Oh no!

It was hot here yesterday, but we've had a cool southerly change that I thought Adelaide might get.

Yep DC. This getting three figures against the English Dukes pretty much cements his spot. That was what I meant by the selectors being enthused.

Surprising how some players have excelled in Tas who were not wanted by bigger states - Ed Cowan, Mark Cosgrove, Jackson Bird.

Reckon with Ed and Jackson it was a case of  the selectors making a crook error of judgement. I was gobsmacked when they allowed Cowan to leave. There are many more former Blues who found greener pastures in Tassie. Can you name them?

There are many since Tasmania gained admittance to the Shield.

Some may have been head hunted too - Dave Gilbert, Dirk Wellham, Michael Bevan ( ACT originally), Jason Krejia ( all who played Test cricket).

Other success stories have been Peter Clough, Gary Goodman, Rob Jeffrey, Mark Ray, Gavin Robertson, Rod Tucker, Jordan Silk.
