+xSome balls keeping low. Is this deck cracking on the first day? Indian bowlers overdo the round the wicket attack to our lefties imho. Have always maintained that across the body attack is far more effective

+xSome balls keeping low. Is this deck cracking on the first day? Yes, reports are it has cracks opening up already. Harris had one almost run all the ground to him.

I think it seems like good carry to the keeper and quick off the pitch - a bit like old WACA wickets, but possibly without the bounce.

They are saying it is quickening up a bit. Certainly Bumrah is getting something from the pitch.

We've done exceptionally well here, this isn't an easy pitch to bat on

+xWe've done exceptionally well here, this isn't an easy pitch to bat on I did not see the first session but it seems India bowled quite poorly in the first hour at least. Harris a little lucky but Rahul only seemed to get the tip of one finger on it at full stretch. Technically a dropped catch but he did well to just touch the ball.

it hasn't looked easy to play cross bat shots on this pitch

Khawaja has not looked comfortable and edges Yadav to the keeper. He just seems out of sorts, similar to his performance in the 2nd innings in Adelaide. Now the door is really open for India, bowling quite well, pitch offering a bit and low quality batsmen to come.

Usman is struggling against this pace attack ATM.
Out!
Poor performance, Uzzie.
I’m sure he was trying his hardest, but Aus is no longer on top as Yadav strikes.

Khawaja perishes playing the same impatient shot. Should have known better being the senior partner. India has a foot in the door now.

There has been some good running between wickets for some quick singles between Harris and Marsh.

Far be it beneath me to resort to some form of "I told you so" -
but Vihari just got a wicket.
So uhmmm *awkward*...

Oh no!
Harris gone to a part time spinner!
Here comes the inevitable collapse.

Kuldeep is the future - but Kohli does not rate him enough to wear the big boy pants just yet... Kuldeep may appear at Sydney though..

Vihari is a batsman who can bowl a bit spin, nothing special, worth the occasional few overs and might sometimes get a wicket or three. Lets remember Michael Clarke won at least one test match with his part time bowling and Alan Border did as well.

Lets remember Michael Clarke won at least one test match with his part time bowling and Alan Border did as well. I agree with everything you say - but for me - it simply supports my argument... Clarke got a back injury and had to bowl less - Border shoulda totally bowled himself more - in his bio he reckons he needed his vc to encourage him to bowl himself... KW has the same Border problem for NZ now he's captain... he don't bowl himself as oft as he should...

I think 3-145 is exceptional on the pitch as it is playing right now. I did not see the first session but I think the moisture in the pitch early kept it from misbehaving as much as it is now. If Australia make it to 300 it is probably a match winning position unless either or both of India's star batsmen get a big score.
Fortunately today is the only day of the test forecast to be very hot and there could even be some rain around from tomorrow because this pitch is a disaster and sustained heat would turn it into a widely cracked minefield.

How many years did the WACA have cracking pitches. I do not know of any states on the Eastern seaboard that have them. AO or Bellerive have never cracked to my knowledge. So why do WA pitches crack. Is it due to the soil being clay based?
