+xFound this article from the AFR from a month ago which was interesting reading.
Whether it works out or not is another story, but they appear to be trying to milk every opportunity they can. The most interesting thing appears to be the investment so far of $55 million, which is a lot of money for not much reward yet. $55 million????? hahahaha Diamanti must have reamed them a new one otherwise what did they spend that much money on?

How it started https://www.ftbl.com.au/news/united-the-cap-is-back-229154How it's going “The Regional Football Facility will feature state-of-the-art training facilities including three pitches, a two-storey Pavilion and capacity for up to 5,000 spectators”.

It’s hardly ideal to have what is largely a training base used as the actual match day venue, but WU need some stability and not to play matches at AAMI Park.
The location of this venue has its limitations for sure though, including: - public transport access. Will need to work on bus connections to the station - lack of weather protection for fans (I.e. cover from rain, shade for sun, exposed to windy conditions) - temporary seating and facilities will not be of a great standard.
All of this will create have some fan experience downsides, but it really hasn’t got much choice given its inability to deliver the stadium it promised. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just tried to build this up to be the stadium eventually and have the council do must of the heavy lifting as usual.

+x“The Regional Football Facility will feature state-of-the-art training facilities including three pitches, a two-storey Pavilion and capacity for up to 5,000 spectators”. Clicking through to that article ( https://www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/news/get-ready-sizzling-season-football-tarneit) they state the grandstand is 2,000 seats. However looking at that image I count a little over 300 seats in the left bay. That puts the total at closer to 1000 seats. Even if that image is older and there are more seats to be installed at the front, that still puts it at 1100-1200 tops. Even accounting for any seating inside, no way is that stand 2000 seats. No mention of temporary seating for A-League games. So basically 1000 seats and 4000 people standing.

I read that there will be an additional 2000 seats on the eastern side of the field. The permanent stand that is shown is on the western side of the pitch.
It is hard to work out how it will all work though.

Looking at the fixture, WU are away for the first 3 weeks and don't play their first home game til November 11. Will their temp seating and all other logistics be ready by November 11?
All of their home game kickoffs are at 5:00-5:30pm (except Victory which will probably be at AAMI Park). That would suggest they won't be playing any games at night. Everyone involved will likely bake at Tarneit with an expected hotter than average summer coming.

According to this...... https://westernmelbournegroup.com/panoramic-view/...these are still sitting there, presumably to be the 'new 2,000-seat terraced grandstand to the east of the main pitch has been approved to cater for the extra on-site matches' Slip Slap Slop https://x.com/Jules3345/status/1657619262247440385?s=20

Talk is that their home game against Victory in March will be held there as well (not AAMI Park). Looking forward to an away day in Tarneit.

It looks miles off beign ready to be honest. Its astill a dirt road. Will they aim for the January 20 home game? They have three in a row from then. Even that might be ambitious given Christmas breaks. I'm hearing Tassie will be getting a run, with North Hobart Oval favoured for the Roar and City games.

The place has (will have?) a couple of thousand seats at best.... Surely that alone wouldnt even cater to the away fans?

Western United should be playing at their own home ground. If that's a dinky little training ground on an unmade road in Tarneit then so be it. AAMI is expensive, and even against MV and MC they still don't pull the numbers for it to make financial sense. Sure, it sucks that there won't be much capacity for MV/MC away fans, but that's the hole WU have dug.

That dinky little council training pitch at the end of a dirt road is preferable to Lakeside Stadium according to WU and APL... Hope its not too hot this summer as their dinky little lights seem to rule out any kickoff after 5pm. No established tress or shelter on their "family super fun end zone" areas will lead to heatstroke victims galore... hope they pave the road so the ambos can reach the place at least.

Maybe the fun part is the increased number of brown and tiger snakes out west at the moment. That should be exciting.

+xThat's actually pretty funny. I really like the phase dinky lights lol If this stadium fails the club is screwed :), What other phrase could be used to describe this little council ground mate? Seriously, my neighbour has strung up more lights outside his house for Christmas. lol As for the stadium failing??? What stadium? This is a council NPL facility... will be used by Avondale FC for NST from what I hear and hopefully can be used by other state league clubs in the area.... WMG is irrelevant in the "WEST" now.

Why in the world would Avondale do that? Because they want to "represent" the West (as per JJs NST announcement and that bald dude wearing the old mans sneakers mumbled) and have no other ground to play at that is suitable for NST..... Apparently City Vista is ruled out and CB Smith is being used by 3 other clubs as it is.

First domino falls with their next match to be at AAMI Park.
Hearing rumours they have approached City to swap home games with them so the 7th of January fixture will become a city home game, and the 28th of April fixture will be at Tarneit. Same with Adelaide United with their games.
I can see this being a disaster this season if they need to keep chopping and changing.

The article says the stadium should be ready SOMETIME during the 2026/27 season. That’s EIGHT years after the ‘ shovel ready’ announcement. The granting of the licence was disgracefully handled by the Steven Lowy led FFA.
