Think the notion that you can't display ads whilst the football is on needs to go. Seen a few during the AFL that aren't intrusive at all and don't take you away from the game.

I'm sure football fans won't mind a few sacrifices if Ten is treating the game with respect on the main channel.

Nope, won't do any harm at all. Is that what they do in Europe because that is what the deciding factor will be for some here?

i can live with ads during a stoppage in play if it means more money is coming into the game.

Nothing wrong with a scrolling marquee type ad on the screen during a throw in, corner or injury stoppage. Commercial TV requires ad revenue so its up the sport to accommodate it as much as possible without bastardising itself

Elastoplast, or Medibank private ad during an injury break could be funny and creative (as long as it wasnt a serious injury).

Lots of other things could be done with a co-ordinated marketing effort. Get Addidas or Nike to run 'secret codes' on the advertising hoardings at the games - sms in to win boots and stuff but you have to be watching the game to see it AND ensure every grassroots club in the country knows about it with that little old database that FFA has control over.

1 million plus participants and their families - thats why there is a reason for FTA to invest.

Ten have a massive opportunity but a massive challenge as well.

They'll get the rights for bugger all. It's their job to market the league/s to however many million kids / families playing the game. That's going to be the challenge.

If they get the marketing right and the NLWG get the leagues right, it could be a big success.

A-League: Ideally they broadcast 2-3 A-League games live each week, the rest on Fox.

Championship: one game a week on their secondary channel. Fox possibly broadcast a couple of games as well.

Kayo/Tens Streaming Service or someone else picks up the streaming rights.

It's positive news for the game whether it takes hold or not and clearly shows that it's alive and kicking ready to bounce back again.

"In a submission to the New Leagues Working Group, Fox Sports is believed to have expressed concerns about falling ratings and suggested the A-League in current form is unsustainable...  The clear message from Fox Sports is that unless things change, the broadcast rights fee will fall."

Fox sports have been pushing this angle for a while now. In some ways you can't blame them. This is why we need other parties to bid to push the price up and perhaps take over the rights. we need to reduce our reliance on fox sports.

I'm slightly disappointed that Optus Sport isn't taking more of an interest - I'd be okay with the league being sold to them for a cut price (initially) in order to break up the hold that Foxtel has on the professional game.

This of course is useless without fundamental changes in the way football is run and governed however - can have all the bidders in the world, none of it matters if the professional game is fundamentally broken because of self interest and greed.

It'd to be good for the game they might market it more create 'more interest'

the condition should be it is on there HD channel otherwise i give zero f**ks about how much money the HAL gets because they wont get anywhere near as good of a deal they got with fox last time. - View numbers of shrunk exponentially in the past 2 seasons the league has become dry and dull to follow due to all the issues we have talked about in the past and the FFA are absolutely hopeless...

Optus did make enquiries last time around but pulled the pin because of issues relating to production. You would hope they'd be a lot more prepared next time around.

There is little doubt, there is a co-relation between EPL coverage and A-League ratings..... when the EPL and the Champions League went to Optus, a number of people needed to choose between Europe and the A-League...

Many choose Europe and many of these people would also watch the A-League... if possible I would love a 10 / Optus kind of love in where if 10 got the A-League and used Optus as the subscription broadcaster and in turn 10 got some EPl & Champion League ....

Its interesting in America, the MLS rate 3 behind, the Mexican  League, & EPL,

Alternatively, Optus made enquiries last time round but ratings have dropped dramatically since then, which may make them wonder if it's worth putting money into production, let alone into competing with Fox for the rights.  Either way, the rights will be worth less - it's just a question of how much less.

so even the MLS rates behind two other football leagues?
I reckon that's always a bad sign when overseas leagues are more popular than your own domestic league
we are currently very, very close with the Premier League, and it if tips anymore in their favour, we may as well get used to our fate

I'm pretty sure the last year fox sports had the premier league, the HAL had beaten the premier league in the ratings for the first time.

that's right, and that's precisely where we want to stay
if we reach a situation where domestic broadcasters want to pay more for an overseas league than our own domestic league, that's a bit of a tipping point

Ten saw its lowest daily share since January 2014, with 5.6% for the channel and 8.9% at a network level. Ten’s most watched show for the night was The Sunday Project at 6.30pm which saw 262,000 metro viewers.

The penultimate episode of Chris and Julia’s Sunday Night Takeaway slumped to a new low of just 161,000 metro viewers.

Seven was unable to topple Nine, with My Kitchen Rules averaging 784,000 metro viewers and 1,096,000 for Seven News.

It was a solid day for ABC – it had the most-watched morning show with Insiders bringing in 290,000 metro viewers and 446,000 nationally, edging out Weekend Sunrise which secured 280,000 metro viewers.

In the daily channel share, Nine’s 37% saw it easily take the win, over Seven on 17.5% and ABC on 10.4%.

Ten’s loss in the channel share also saw it place fourth at a network level, taking just 8.9%. Nine was top with 45.5%, while Seven landed in second on 25.8% and ABC was third with 14.2%. SBS pulled 5.6% share at a network level, landing just behind Ten.

Seven had the top multi-channel, with 7mate averaging 3.9%, above 9GO! on 3.4%.
