The CBS buy out was meant to turn their fortunes around, but it’s becoming harder to see how Ten will even be around in 5-10 years. 

The way media is being consumed keeps evolving, but traditional broadcasters continue to have their challenges adapting.

10 especially as they where in some kinda war with News over CBS getting 10 instead of them, and SBS still struggling to come to terms with they were the main Football channel .

Football has never had that FTA network, that just does cross promotional work, appoint [this bid does not apply to SBS] in their sports departments senior Football people..

The hope was when FFA signed with 10, was that 10 would run things on the Project, News shows, there morning show, and other shows similar to how 7 & 9 do in the NRL & AFL... it never happened.

Beyond that, Football went into a civil war and the negativity from within the Football community had to hurt... so for the last few years we have had a sulking SBS, 10 at war with CBS over 10, with both CBS & News pissed off over the A-League broadcast, throw in Football main stream media and social media in constant negative territory.

Into all this the EPL went to Optus at a much cheaper price than staying with Fox and the A-League.

 I like the idea that Indy Hal will get all major existing and potential broadcasters in a room together and hammer out a deal I hope.... deep down in my soul I think 10 see's it needs a sport and of those left we are best... If we can convince 10 & Fox & others we will unite and be positive and do some of our own promotion then I think a deal can be made .

This is  a very weak argument.  The more FTA games on TV the less is the incentive to pay for STV.

So when TEN paid $$ZERO DOLLARS for Foxtel’s feed for one game, the secret Hope was that TEN would then start paying for and promoting this freebie product all over its other shows.

What that FFA hoped that 10 would promote the A-League if they were broadcasting it... it was no secret Gallop made a big deal about it... 

9 and 7, spending big coin on rights, have an incentive to make those rights pay. Both leagues also get considerable contra out of the rights deal, so some of what may look like the networks promoting the leagues, may be the leagues using that contra to promote themselves.

10, having paid nothing, faces the prospect that if they spend to much money on promotion, and it doesn't cause a big uptick in viewing, that they will have turned a free product into a loss maker.  So perversely, the incentive is to spend as little as possible.

For 10, would the amount of money required to double viewing, pay for itself?  Could a network double viewing just through cross promotion?  Would anything less than a doubling be worth the money spent to achieve it?

The problem is that even by doubling last years rating they would still be crap and 10 could get similar or better rating for less $ with other shows (like Peppa pig). Make no mistake, 10 is looking for bargain basement content so the big risk is that there may be no fta coverage this season

A-league lost a lot of viewers with the EPL split to Optus. Moving to 10 with ‘adequate’ marketing may help to counter this. As long as casuals know where something is showing and ‘legitimised’ by advertising it will garner increased interest. Also, I imagine the A-league bosses want their leadership to look successful so would be willing to throw everything at the game.

There will be no FTA I bet. HAL is poison and clubs like CCM and Roar don't help it either. Time to produce our own product and on sell it to Optus or BeIn sports.

I heartily agree that Phoenix and the rest of a new NZ league should go off and do that, yes.
