I thought the weather in Brisbane was fine, reckon conditions would of put a few people off but that number is ok for a Phoenix game with an inconsistent team. The stadium is the only bad thing. I don’t mind watching most teams but that stadium just doesn’t work and it is why crowds become an issue. Similiar numbers to Adelaide on Friday but a much better spectacle.

+x+x+x+x+xPacific Highway flooded and closed in both directions, trains disrupted, busses cancelled ... decent crowd. LOL ! Blame the weather on the new FFA mate M1 reportedly reopened before midday. People had all day to get to the game. Doubt there was even a drop of rain since this morning until the 2nd half... “The M1 has reopened after being cut by floodwaters for six hours today while theme parks remain underwater after ‘life-threatening’ flash flooding hit parts of southeast Queensland during a wild 300mm deluge” But yeah - something something new FFA .. As I said, M1 reportedly reopened before midday today. But yeah - something something people couldn't get to the game...

I'll support a second Brisbane team providing the club is locally owned.

+x+x+x+x+x+xConsidering roars woeful season and finishes in last couple years, this isn't a bad crowd number. If roar were positioned on the top spots it would be interesting to see the crowd figures. I think Brisbane could potentially be ready for a second team in 5 years if another expansion is on the cards How could they be ready for a second team when the first team struggles to get 10k. As soon as they start losing the fans stop coming. To be fair to Roar (in their third season of playing shite, losing football) there crowds hold up pretty well.
8,000 seems to be the base, 12,500 is “average” and 15k a good crowd. Put all that in Hindmarsh and the perception of Roars crowds changes.
They desperately need a second team rivalry but it’s very doubtful the City can support one - either in terms of crowd numbers or commercially, so I’m not sure what the answer is.
Ah yes, what a different experience BR home games would be in a packed out Hindmarsh. And, as one who couldn't make it to the game, I can assure you it looked abysmal on tv. This is the point so many seem to miss - that for tv audiences optics are everything. The single most important factor harming our game on television is the vistas of empty seats behind the players. The old SFS was just as bad as Suncorp in this respect. The clubs themselves stated that the best revenue income comes from catering and sponsorship, not gate receipts. Sponsors usually like the flashy corporate boxes of big stadiums, prawn sangas etc I think it was Tony Pignata said the same about larger stadiums. We have to find a way of ditching the behemoth stadiums, they are just not suitable.

The old SFS was just as bad as Suncorp in this respect. Exactly. It would be more beneficial to have smaller attendances in smaller stadiums. The clubs themselves stated that the best revenue income comes from catering and sponsorship, not gate receipts. It would do no harm to experiment with these smaller facilities until the best suited is found. For the TV spectacle big stadiums look atrocious and does not endear itself to new and old viewers. Personally I avoid most Suncorp or Westpac games on TV because the empty stadium becomes a distraction. When the Roar took their games to Dolphin stadium it looked electric. That’s a fair point the bris vs city mstch was 2-2 but it came off terrible on tv due to not being able to hear the crowd and the dull commentators

Think it may be hard to expand in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth as these teams represent the entire cities. East and West Sydney has worked well, Melbourne has shown what a disaster it can be without a clear territorial divide. North Brisbane vs South Brisbane would work. There is a rivalry there. If you're familiar with Brisbane, people usually stick to their side of the river and think the other side is a another city. It's a territorial divide and roar being based in the south would probably become the south Brisbane team. But that may upset North side supporters.

Waz, what is your take on the possibility of basing Roar up at Dolphin, and a second team down Logan way?
