Not a single person in attendance at an A-League match today. This is a new low.
No doubt the usual crowd will be blaming thunderstorms and transport problems...

+x+xWhat’s a good crowd for the w league? 2k I reckon. At the point we're happy with crowds of 2,000 we might as well give up.

Who in Brisbane actually goes to watch the Mariners? The Dolphin Games are all Sunday games - the cost of renting Suncorp is bad enough and then you add in penalty rates for Sunday. Taking three games there was seen as a risk (and still is, wait until it rains). Roar v Mariners last year was pretty much 15k, a figure they would have gone close to again this year before the season start they’re having because they’re doing the miniroos go free ticketing

+xWhat’s a good crowd for the w league? So far this season R1 Wanderers v Adelaide........787 (standalone) Smurfs v Melb Vic............3219 (doubleheader) Canberra v Perth..............1482 (standalone) Newcastle v Heartle$$....1523 (standalone) Bye Brisbane R2 Brisbane v Melb Victory....2139 (standalone) Wanderers v Newcastle...2992 (doubleheader) Adelaide v Smurfs.............784 (standalone) Canberra v Heartle$$......1293 (standalone) Bye Perth The standout game this season was the Roar v Vuck with over 2000 at a standalone game. The doubleheader last week was problematic for attendance being a Friday game starting when most people finish work at 5pm with storms/rain and traffic.

With crowds no longer a metric surely Canberra and Auckland should get the nod for the next expansion. Team 11 can wait as they have nothing going for them.

After round 7 of the A-League. WSW enjoying their new home, attendance sharply up so far. What will it take for Melbourne City to attract a decent crowd, they are at the top of the ladder after all. Explore interactive view

Explore interactive view To be fair, 2 of the 3 home games has been the Sunday 4pm time slot, which isn't great, and then the one Friday night game the weather was atrocious, only your rusted on hardcores would've turned up to that. Plus 2 of the games has been against CCM and Wellington, not the most appealing opposition for the casual fan. You can't underestimate the impact 2 years of Joyce and his Joyceball has had on crowds as well. I'm sure with more appealing fixtures coming up, as well as positive results the City crowds will start to lift.

City would have lost fans to WUFC. To be fair, MCFC dont need fans like some clubs do and with the season they are having they will convert casuals to life long fans.

City need to win the comp, and do it with style. The only way to build their support.
They may do exactly that this season, but Adelaide and Sydney may intervene.

I agree, MC not having much support is a non-issue. They will remain as long as the City Group wants them there. Their concern is NOT attendances or TV ratings.

Especially with MVFC losing their way, it is a good opportunity for City to carve out its identity, which doesn't need to be about most fans.
