That young lad who was on the wings Awer (?) Mabil was brilliant. Looked quite comfortable on the ball, wasn't afraid to take on defenders and even has a few tricks. Looking forward to seeing him play more this season

Golec is fast, big and strong and in my eyes, a shoe in for Boogard. In fact I'd have him starting before Boogard, but I've heard the same as you, that Josep doesn't like his attitude. Kossie and Golec get on well and Kossie would use him almost all the time. Now with Josep, Jordon Elsey looks as if he's in front of Golec. Mabil is a favourite of Josep as well. So Golec either has to show the passion that Josep's looking for.......or bide his time til season's end when he can seek other options. Newcastle could do with a big, strong defender. WSW showed a bit of interest, or maybe the other way around, Can't really see the Beauchamp- Hyphen partnership being broken though. ] Edited by redcup: 19/10/2013 05:03:08 PM

Are the Adelaide game replays shown on NITV (The indigenous channel) because of their sponsorship of visit Northern Territory?

Ryan kitto. How did he play? Hes a new young guy right? Was looking through the new youth team list and there seems to be quite a few new faces are they mostly local, I noticed not many that trialled from the ais made it.

I thought he did not look out of place out there, but was not on for that long. He replaced Ferreria on the RW. He has a big leap on him and used that to get his head to the ball in the box a couple of times although the ball did not go anywhere near the goal.

Kitto hasn't even played for the youth league before so this was a big jump for him. He wasn't as aggressive as he usually is in the Premier League but I think he did well and will do better as he gets used to it. He's a strong and quality player. Gombau obviously saw this and gave him a chance but it's early days yet.
I don't know what's happening with Golec. He's good in his position. He's a real bear of a player fitness wise - takes that very seriously. I can only assume that he's not fitting in with Gombau's thinking somehow. Pity if that's the case, I'm not impressed with Boogard or McKain at the moment.

I REALLY wish Gombau would give Golec a run. He obviously sees something he doesn't like, and whatever he decides as coach must be respected. But I'm so annoyed that Boogard lost the plot again and WSW scored - who would've thunk it?
I realise that refs shouldn't be held accountable for a loss, but when they think consistency is only something to with a cake mix it is FRUSTRATING! Round 1 - Isais kicks the ball back to the ball boy = red card. Polenz kicks the ball over the hoardings = nothing Juric kicks the ball away after being called offside = nothing
Anyway United are looking good, I've got a feeling that some team's gonna be on the wrong end of a hiding by them soon

Don't be surprised if you hardly see cassio this season either. Apparently politics going on at the club again within team some happy with gumbi some already think he is the wrong guy.

It's a pity because I think Golec can contribute a lot to what we're trying to do but Boogs hasn't actually been that bad anyway. Players that aren't playing are always going to be unhappy. There's only 15 in a match day squad so it's inevitable. How Josep and the rest of the football department manage it is what's important.

I very much doubt if Antony went to Josep and said "I'm concerned we aren't going to be fit enough" that Josep would just drop him from the team. If Josep explained why he thinks the teams fitness levels will be fine and Antony didn't accept it, then he has every right to not play him. RedKat wrote:If you guys dont want Cassio we will happily take him off your hands :D I'm sure you would. Cassio's a legend here, he is, without doubt, the most committed player in United colours - or one that has shown his commitment over the years he's been here. For me the display he showed on the sidelines after a home win against Kashima Antlers will forever be etched in my mind. Unfortunately for you guys' he and his family are well settled here and they seem to genuinely love it here. I can only see him retiring with a red shirt, and sadly I think it may be at the end of this year, but I hope I'm wrong and that he'll happily be a squaddie next year. But 34 yo:-k Edited by redcup: 4/11/2013 12:43:13 PM

Casio will be back playing. He can play the ball and he's Adelaide through and through. I have no doubt he'll win Gumby over. Zullo looks a better fit as an attacking player and despite Cassio's occasional flirtations with being caught out of position he's a far better defender than Zullo is - yet. Cirio looks happier slightly more central and he's not really a wide player in my opinion.
Still, it'll all pan out in time but Casio will be RED for a while yet I'd say.

Im not sure what exactly happened i know it had to do with pre season and antony and gumbi not really liking each other would be great to find out what happened i know antony loves the club though does not want to leave after this season and wants to work his ass off to play but is worried he will be ignored no matter what he does. Cassio is a worry missed all pre season and gumbi does not like that at all. Unless he is the best stand out player at training and in reserves or injuries hit it will be hard for him to see much game time i think. Edited by liverpoolfan2010: 4/11/2013 02:59:52 PM

RE: Friday nights game
Who do you think was the weakest AU player on the park? I thought Elrich lacks confidence in the high passing game and made a few unforced errors.

So it is good to see Golec about to be picked for the game this week
was a shame hearing all the rumors about him missing out because of attitude problems ect
can say the reason he did not get chosen is because he was injured alot of pre season because of this he was put on the back burner and not even looked at was labeled not good enough and cant fit the system without even a go
glad he has proven his worth and will get a game this week after impressing in the reserves.

CASSIO'S gladiator-like performance in Saturday's 1-1 away draw with Perth Glory has put pressure on Socceroo Michael Zullo to regain the left back position this weekend. But it's a different scenario for Antony Golec. Golec hasn't seen a second of this A-League campaign after he was a preferred defender last season. Reds coach Josep Gombau says Golec is his 'best defender' but lacks other attributes.
"The problem is we need to start from the back with the ball and he's (Golec) learning the style,'' Gombau said.
"He's a very good defender.
"In defensive actions he's even better than some of our players but in the style that we play, players need to make a lot of decision making.
Adelaide United coach, Josep Gombau, says he is happy with the way his side played in thier 1-1 draw with Perth. "In the beginning (of preseason) he's been making a lot of mistakes in decision making.
"We are working with him he's getting better but it's still not at the level that the other players are playing. It's step by step, he's a player that has a good attitude, I am happy with him and he's a very good person."But with the bizarre fixtures again pitting Melbourne Victory as a Reds opponent - for the second time in 36 days after Adelaide faced Glory for the second time in 34 days last weekend, Gombau has a hard decision to make ahead of the Etihad Stadium clash on Saturday. Gombau says whether Zullo or Cassio is the right fit at left back for Victory is a predicament he prefers. Perth V Adelaide: Match Review, from Round 6 of the Hyundai A-League. "It's my job it's not difficult to do this,'' Gombau said. "I need to think what is the best with the team and to be honest with everybody and then the job of the coach is this. "For me it's not a problem I want to have this problem every weekend. "Like on Saturday I had Bruce Djite injured and we had to play the last minutes with (Jordan) Elsey upfront. If we had Djite we could have made a change before and we could have won." Adelaide United have reportedly expressed interest in signing Socceroo Lucas Neill on a loan deal for the remainder of the season. Zullo was forced to vacate the Reds left back role for the Glory clash due to Socceroos camp with Australia facing Costa Rica at Allianz Stadium, Sydney tonight. (Tuesday) Cassio moved in and hardly skipped a beat in his first start since snapping a hip tendon in July. The 33-year-old used every bit of his 15 professional years of experience at defending and attacking to keep Glory's Sidnei and Ryo Nagai quiet when they came up against the former Flamengo defender. Gombau, however, said Adelaide must fix its defensive problems after the Reds conceded its third goal from a corner this season when Glory's Chris Harold nodded in the equaliser in Perth. And in the six matches this season Adelaide has not kept a clean sheet. "I am happy with them but there are things we need to improve,'' Gombau said. Good to hear about the attitude bit, but doesn't his contract run out soon? - or has he got to the end of the season?
