I think United should play 2 games max at Adelaide Oval next season as a trial. On a Friday night against the bigger teams, Victory, Sydney FC or maybe Heart/City. They could then review the figures and go from there. Any more than 2 games and it's a massive gamble. No guarantees that they'll get near 30k just because the games are at AO.

Treat him well, will shine in your system if given the chance. Interestingly you guys wanted him now but we blocked the move, maybe an indication that Gombau see's him as a like for like replacement for Lustica?

And he didn't sulk and not show up to training? A player with integrity is always welcome :) I think he would be well suited to the position that Boostica was playing.

It's like under 10s. Give the kids who've been playing up back all year a chance to score a goal. Actually, the further forward Boogs is, the less likely he is to give away a penalty, score an own goal etc. That may not be the worst thing to happen.

Marrone was a superior player imo and i was pissed when he left and Mullen stayed. Though he is fairly well regarded amongst most AUFC fans but being a local boy and part of a legendary SA football family he probably gets credits. IMO he wouldn't get a start in your current squad but i assume he's signed as backup only, probably best to ask MV fans what they thought of him when playing for them for a fairer opinion. Good luck to him, seems like a decent lad.

Looked good against Sydney, 3rd goal was sweet, but I can understand Sydney supporters. That squad is very good. Nicky Carle's comments post-match were very revealing - I always wondered why a ball player like him was played so far back?
Marrone, showed in 15 minutes how much he can add, 3rd goal was because of him running forward causing chaos in their defence.

Some thoughts from the last couple of games.
It's the first time I've noticed it in this club, but a number of the players are looking like they've improved in their overall skills. Malik is a great example, but even Watson and Boogard seem to have changed to fit into the system, and are better players because of it. Mabil is another one - he seems to be improving with every game. It's nice to have a manager who is having such an obvious influence on the team. It seems clear to me that he's improved not just their ball skills, but also their knowledge of the game.
With all the talk about Carrusca's movements at the end of the season, I think Sydney may have shot themselves in the foot with the events of Saturday's game. I wonder what Carrusca thinks about the club now after witnessing the implosion both on and off the field.
I love the fact the Gombau has come to the club with a plan and hasn't wavered. He's also getting more favourable media coverage now as more commentators are realising that he's not going to be sacked this season and his plans are actually working. He's doing some great things with his emphasis on training youth (and training the coaches who train the youth). Could this be the thing that makes Adelaide a desirable club to join?
Some have said that Jeggo is going to join us at the end of the season. Does he see Gombau and the club as just another pay cheque, or as a way to improve as a player? I wonder if all this will work in favour of us retaining Carrusca - whilst we can't offer the same money as other clubs we can offer a better playing environment.

Definitely this! Money is a factor but at AUFC he's got Jeronimo, Fabio, Cassio and Isiais who all speak Spanish, and by all reports are a close knit group. Not to mention the gaffer is Spanish too! Just look at how much ADP is enjoying playing for SFC DESPITE being paid 2 Million per year! I doubt they would put Chelo on that much as well. In the end the $$$ may still be the deciding factor, however he knows that as soon as things go sour they will be calling for his head and wanting a "Big Name" marquee more befitting of "Bling FC". Unless SFC get a proper coach they aren't going to be in finals contention any time soon as well. Also If we get an ACL spot that would be the ideal shop window for Chelo to go to a bigger club in Asia, with a payday that makes what SFC pay ADP a pittance.

However I think AUFC is an example of how you CAN turn things around, and not necessarily by sacking the board etc. As long as there is a PLAN with PURPOSE and DIRECTION things can be turned around for any club I think.

This. If we do stick to our guns I can only see the club going from strength to strength but I do believe we had to have the bad times to get where we are now. We'd probably be going through the motions of another directionless season of Kossie at the helm were it not for him losing his bottle.

Quote:Coopers Stadium $75m upgrade plan includes covered roof, link to Adelaide Oval, host rugby and Commonwealth GamesBRAD CROUCH THE ADVERTISER FEBRUARY 15, 2014 10:25PM COOPERS Stadium would become Adelaide’s first covered stadium and its capacity increased to 25,000 spectators under an ambitious $75million plan linking it with the upgraded Adelaide Oval to land the Commonwealth Games. Both rugby codes also would be enticed to the enclosed, weatherproof stadium in the plan to cement Adelaide as a sports mecca. Stadium managers Adelaide Entertainment Corporation (AEC) is investigating an option of using a lightweight transparent roof - of similar fabric used in Beijing’s Water Cube - to protect spectators from the elements. The upgraded, covered stadium would be pivotal to government plans to bid for the Commonwealth Games. While a government investment would be needed for the roof, AEC sees the stadium as a future profit maker. AEC runs the neighboring Adelaide Entertainment Centre at a profit, with no call on taxpayer subsidies, and already has plugged the ongoing money drain of Coopers Stadium under Government management into plans for a profit by the end of 2014-15. The proposed ETFE (ethylene tetrafluroe) roof being investigated is the same material used on the large dome at the front of the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. AEC executives says the facility is becoming outdated and the State Government will need to decide if it is to remain South Australia’s home of rectangular sports and so redevelop the facility, or look to build a new stadium on a new site. They now are investigating the merits of increasing shade protection for fans, enlarging the pitch by 7m to attract rugby codes and increasing capacity from its present 17,000 up to 25,000. One option is installing veranda roofs over the grandstands, increasing the size of one of the existing grandstands and building additional seating in the vacant corners of the stadium. The more ambitious option is to enclose the stadium with a lightweight roof. AEC chief executive Anthony Kirchner stressed the investigations are at a very early stage, with no firm costings and no plan yet put to the State Government. “We are looking at a whole range of concepts but this is very much in its infancy,” he said. “AEC has already earmarked $4 million in upgrades to Coopers Stadium over the next two years but at some point there is going to be the need for a more significant investment to make sure the stadium remains relevant and marketable. We are looking at options.” Mr Kirchner recently visited Dunedin at the request of the AEC board to examine the Forsyth Barr Stadium, which has a ETFE roof. The stadium’s roof collects water to irrigate the pitch comprised of real grass strengthened by synthetic grass fibres. The lightweight roof has gaps at the top to allow air flow and the stadium is generally about 3-4C warmer than the outside temperature. Mr Kirchner said while the Dunedin roof was 100 per cent transparent, an Adelaide roof may be 50 per cent transparent to reflect heat and would need careful design to ensure player and spectator comfort in summer. AEC estimates an ETFE roof would cost around $45 million, with another $30 million needed for seating capacity improvements. If no upgrades go ahead, it estimates the cost of a brand new 25,000 seat rectangular stadium to be in excess of $250 million. Since taking over management of the stadium from the State Government in July, AEC has slashed the regular $500,000 a year loss to an expected $250,000 this financial year and expects to be profitable by the end of 2014-15. It has signed Coopers as major naming rights sponsor for five years and the $4 million it is investing comes from profits from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre rather than from taxpayers. These improvements include new seats, more food and beverage outlets, new lift, new dressing rooms and general maintenance. Adelaide United is the ground’s core tenant and their hiring agreement is ‘widely regarded as the best stadium deal of any A-League franchise’ according to a report by consultants KPMG into the stadium arrangements. AEC is taking a conservative approach to Adelaide United’s hiring fees but says the current arrangements are not commercially sustainable. The option of covering Coopers Stadium may depend on Adelaide’s proposed bid for the Commonwealth Games and its success in enticing other professional sports. As reported by The Advertiser in November, AEC is in talks with the NRL to lure a Sydney rugby league team to Hindmarsh for up to five games a season, making Adelaide a second home in the way AFL’s Hawthorn regularly plays in Tasmania. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/coopers-stadium-75m-upgrade-plan-includes-covered-roof-link-to-adelaide-oval-host-rugby-and-commonwealth-games/story-fni6uo1m-1226828298953
