\:d/ doing a happy dance! \:d/ great news, now we just need a central defender to complete our need roster - would have been nice to sign up a marquee this year as well but overall am now pretty happy with the AUFC team sheet. Now they just need to continue to gel and keep Hindmarsh a fortress this season and nick as many away points as possible :) so so happy that we have a creative attacking midfielder on the books! =d>

Adelaide United Sign Korean Midfielder Shin In Sup
The Reds have added a fifth foreign player to their squad for this season.
29 Jun 2009 02:31:14

Adelaide United FC has confirmed Shin In Sup as its latest signing, after the South Korean midfielder put pen to paper on a two year deal.

The Reds secured Shin as their fifth foreigner after his impressive two week trial in Adelaide, Coach Aurelio Vidmar with no doubts that the 20 year old will be a valuable asset to United’s squad this season.

“We’re excited about Shin joining the club. He’s a great young kid, he’s got fantastic potential and we saw that in the two weeks that he spent here and in the match against Perth last Friday,” Vidmar said.

“This will be his first time in a professional environment and we believe he has what it takes to play and perform at this level.”

Shin’s speed, poise and technical ability was a highlight of United’s pre-season friendly win against Perth Glory last Friday night, the Korean causing the Glory defence a number of headaches, while he also provided the pass that resulted in Travis Dodd’s solo run and goal.

Born in Seoul, Shin was first introduced to football after moving to England with his family at age 7, before he returned to Korea five years later.

Shin has been playing for Kunkuk University, South Korea’s university league seen as the primary breeding ground for players to move into Korea’s premier league, the K-League.

Shin’s inclusion gives United the maximum quota of five foreign players for the upcoming season, with the Korean joining Brazilian trio Cassio, Alemao and Cristiano plus fellow new Reds signing, English born Ghanaian international Lloyd Owusu.

Shin, who will wear the number 16 shirt for The Reds, departed back to South Korea this morning to obtain a visa in order to allow him to play in the A-League.

Yeah, I haven't received my Gold Member's pack yet either. What I did though, was use the supplied Red member code (from the pack I received in the mail last week) to collect the FNS tickets. Wanted to get in early, and if it ends up I have a different member code later, I'll be able to collect another 4 tickets! :p

You mean, 'what defence?'... :p None of them made a challenge on Dodd at all, until Velaphi had to come out and do the job himself. Quite shockingly at that...

Costa was definitely quite cool, calm and collected for his age, especially playing against an A-League opposition such as Perth Glory. Monterosso wasn't really a stand-out but he seems to need a bit more time to find his feet. Good effort on both accounts though.

Oh and I've finally been able to claim my Friday Night Shout tickets. It will be great to bring my AFL mates to watch the only home clash against Melbourne Victory at Hindmarsh next season. :D

Adelaide 1 (25' Dodd) - 0 Perth

I was quite surprised at how well our defence was actually played out tonight. Cornthwaite managed to shut down Dadi pretty well, and Marrone and Jamieson on the wings was a perfect move once again.

Dodd's goal was awesome! He waltzed his way past 4 defenders and gently nudged the ball into the back of the net! The only problem was that Cristiano looked a bit lost up front; seemed a bit below par still.

And that brings me to the highlight of the match, which was watching Shin In Sup play yet another superb 90 minutes. There was a scare in the second half when Shin was shinned... :( But it turned out to be okay. Another scare for him when he seemed to injure his left shoulder. Regardless of that, he showed pace, a decent technical skill, stamina - but lacked upper body strength to deal with the heavy hitting Aussie tackles. SIGN HIM UP VIDDIE!

I agree with Shin - loved watching his skills! All he needs is a bit of work in the gym (not too much so u lose his speeed)

I thought the defence was great too - well in Cornflakes for his efforts on Dadi and enjoyed the midfields efforts....with some of our passes, we would of scored more goals with Lloyd up front.

I also enjoyed the efforts of both Kosta and Monterosso - you can tell with experiance they are going to be players of quality

Agreed RU, (I just posted my match summary on the other thread) a good game and Shin looked the goods indeed. Worryingly knocked around though. He could be the perfect Diego replacement on the field and in the treatment room! Great vision and nice skills though. Keep him away from Muscat and he'll be ok. Hughes can take Kev.

And do we ever need Owusu to lead from the front. It'll challenge Viddie's formation but he'll scare some defences and we might see Cristiano sneak in for a good few poachers goals.

A win! Gotta love it.

I see that the Friday Night Shout website has been updated to include a disclaimer saying that you'll only be able to log into that site ONCE. I've had to call up Venuetix to get that resolved so hopefully I'll hear back from them soon. Such a pain when they time you out so quickly... :(

As reported in the Advertiser on Wednesday 24th June Adelaide United wants to increase their membership base by at least 5%. Last year we had 6,370 members so I think the target is 6,700. Surprised we don't have more.

The club should earn over $1,000,000 from memberships roughly.

I'm thinking about it too. Love it how they say that it is cheaper if you pre-order them. $117 + $15 is more expensive than the usual $130.

Not sure whether I want one without the sponsor either. Does't really look like a football top without a sponsor

I got the email, thought about getting one of each but...

whats the go with them at the moment, we still dont have a sponsor so if we were to order one then what happens. it would be sponsorless or would they wait until we have a sponsor then send them out. I dont want to buy one without sponsors then in say two months time they find a sponsor .
