Griffin: SA corporate giants won't support us Val Migliaccio From: AdelaideNow August 25, 2011 5:29pm GREG Griffin said the Reds would never attract a marquee megastar unless the state's biggest corporate companies put their hands in their pockets. After Melbourne Victory penned Harry Kewell and Sydney FC announced Brett Emerton on three year deals, Griffin said Adelaide cannot compete with its rivals when it comes to splashing the millions for Socceroos and other notable foreigners for the A-League. The Adelaide United chairman said he was disappointed with iconic Australian company BHP and SA mining giant Santos who have not financially supported the Reds on the big sporting stage. ``This Emerton and Kewell deal is beyond us because we don't have the corporate support in SA that Melbourne and Sydney enjoy,'' Griffin told radio FIVEaa. ``You throw in NSW and (mining magnate) Nathan Tinkler and Newcastle Jets and (mining magnate, Perth Glory owner) Tony Sage in WA, it's us and Wellington who basically get no support from the big corporates. ``Santos and BHP between them give us a combined total of zero. ``So you've got the two biggest mining companies in the country and both of them earn a billion dollars a year out of this state and neither of them give one cent to the state (soccer) team here. ``It is frustrating.'' http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/soccer/griffin-sa-corporate-giants-wont-support-us/story-e6frectc-1226122316580

Also arranged for my first regular season interstate trip to Melbourne, are many others making the trip on December 10th?
i won't be there unfortunately but I would reckon many would make the trip for that game. since its a Saturday night game and depending on form you could potentially have up to 500-1000 reds supporters there. Melbourne games (either heart or victory) will always bring a good number of Adelaide supporters. Should be aiming for 100-200 minimum. The game against MV at AAMI Park last season was amazing seeing a fairly large Red Army in the corner, especially when they erupted after Van Dijk's free kick cracker!

Quote:Become a member of the Reds! OUR TEAM, OUR STATE! Dear Jeremy,
We approach the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League season with much anticipation and excitement. To survive and thrive in this highly competitive League, the Board has committed to two critical strategies: • On field success • Financial stability The Club cannot expect to achieve either without your support. Membership is the foundation on which all sporting clubs around the world are built. It is a matter of passion, of choice and being valued. • Strong membership provides long term financial stability for sporting organisations. • The ability for our club to re-invest in both its senior and youth football departments. • Provide an exciting and safe game day experience. • Foster strong commercial partnerships For the first time, Adelaide United is providing fans with the opportunity to become a member, as distinct from being a ticket holder. The membership package includes the right to vote on the composition of the Adelaide United Football Club Committee. Up to three of our 2011/12 financial members will be elected to the Club’s Management Committee which reports to the Board. South Australia has a proud history of football achievement in this country and in its short existence, Adelaide United Football Club has continued on with this successful tradition. On field honours include being crowned the inaugural Hyundai A-League premiers, runners-up of the prestigious AFC Asian Champions League in 2008 and qualification and a fifth place finish at the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup. Adelaide United FC’s success in Asia is second to none in Australia. We want all South Australians and our fans interstate and abroad, to join us on our journey of continuing to be at the forefront of football success, development and entertainment in Australia. With your support we can lift our club and our state to a new level in football entertainment. We are South Australia’s team in a National Competition – OUR TEAM, OUR STATE Robert Gerard AO Owner Greg Griffin Owner & Chairman
There are a variety of membership options available, so there is something to suit all of our fans. With benefits such as voting rights, members only information nights with the Chairman and Head Coach, and free entry into the Reds’ official preseason matches at Hindmarsh, there is no better time to show your support and your passion for the Adelaide United Football Club. Click here (http://www.adelaideunited.com.au/default.aspx?s=membership) for the details of how to join, and take advantage of all the great benefits immediately. I am now an AUFC member!

Though the cost of 2 pre season games(gold coast and melbs) almost adds up to this anyways
And ill probably do it just for the keyring ahaa

Im guessing NOT streaming of games...though that woudld be awesome I wonder if it has anything to do with the recently signed FFA/Optus deal? :-k I'm of the understanding that the AFL/Telstra deal allows people to watch match replays, interviews etc via mobile devices (but not live games because of the clash with TV). It's a pay for service subscription. Next year it might change as all the AFL games will go to Foxtel live, which means there's a good chance all the games will be available to mobile devices via Telstra. However AFL club members are not entitled to it as part of their membership. They need to pay a few dollars extra a month for it. By the sounds of it, the FFA/Optus deal might be available to HAL club members at no additional cost? I'd say we're probably heading in that direction...

I'm in too GA
Interesting that you don't seem to need to be a season ticket holder which is good but interesting I guess...
Even if its only tokenistic at least the chance to go to AGMs etc and at least FEEL like we're becoming a club is a good feeling.
I just hope Judy Free and a few others don't get wind of this and call us all suckers.
We know what it is but you have to support these initial attempts don't you

Mmmm decisions, decisions. The entry to the x2 pre-season games, which I was going to anyway means the price for membership is only $35. Very doable. Might not seem much to all you fancy-pants Gold members but it does in my neck of the woods  The Management Committee mentioned is this new? Members will have 3 reps, do we know the composition of the other members? Is there a constitution?

The fact i would have gone to the 2 pre season games anyways is what swung me to be honest Although I'm sure I'd have done it anyways...
Oh and us Gold members aren't all wealthy buggers. I only get those seats as Adelaide United matches are a great way to hang out with dad and uncle with no crazy women around aha
I prefer sitting with the plebs though any day of the week, my swearing and shouting and cheering is more accepted out there aha

Hoping the weather is better than last season at least. And as I said when i was u[p the very top where the crowd was a bit more sparse my yelling and carrying on was much more self conscious without the anonymity of a crowd
