These articles are not worth the paper they are printed on and given the fact they are printed on the same paper that goes into making the rest of that gossip trash rag some dare call a "news"paper, that's truly saying something.
The articles are simply mithering, barely legible pieces of opinion masquerading as journalism. If only the readers of the paper knew the motivations behind them or personal vendettas that may inspire them. Then they all, like so many of us do, could take these articles with a grain of salt and just shake their heads in sadness and astonishment as to why a supposed lover of football would want to take every chance they could to talk down OUR club in OUR city.
If football was held in any higher regard in this state these articles would just be shredded along with any ounce of dignity and respect they may have once garnered.
Regards,
Davide I don't get The Advertiser in Singapore. Can you link me the article? Hmmm not sure they even bothered putting it on-line.Had a quick look then and didn't see it. The sum of it was we were alerted to the fact that del piero may want to move away from europe but someone at our club said "he is too old" so we didn't bother trying even though we were told about it blah blah blah. Complete nonsense article that completely ignores realities such as his 2million a year salary etc It doesn't matter if someone DID utter that one quote from within the club which is I'm sure how Val would defend the article. The fact we would never have been able to compete with any club that were in the race for him means why would we bother. Going to my folks house after work and they will have yesterday's paper so ill take a photo of the article and send it to you on twitter from my phone or something. Pretty sure I remember who you are Cheers, mate! Greatly appreciated!

Not many people seem to know this but the state library pay for a sub of press display so you can look at the early edition of the paper for free online. Go here: http://library.pressdisplay.com/pressdisplay/accountingloginlibrary.aspx?returnurl=%2fpressdisplay%2fviewer.aspxenter this in the barcode field: x0193320891

Here's the article for those who still can't access the paper article: The Advertiser, 6 Sept 2012 wrote:How Reds passed on del Piero
SYDNEY FC is today celebrating one of Australian sports’ greatest coups after superstar Alessandro del Piero signed with the A-League club for the 2012/13 season.
However The Advertiser can reveal the 37-year-old had been passed over by Adelaide United, which considered him too old.
More than 18 months before the Italian 2006 World Cupwinning hero and one of FIFA’s 125 greatest living footballers was offered to Sydney, Adelaide had options to pursue the Juve legend. Juventus sports director Fabio Paratici told former team-mate Diego Pellegrini that del Piero was destined for clubs outside of Italy after concluding his 19-season career with Juventus this year. But Adelaide-based Pellegrini’s inside knowledge did little to fuel the interest of United after the former Reds employee sounded out his own club.
Paratici was waiting for Pellegrini’s response on del Piero in November, 2010, not long after Adelaide’s new owners took the club off the hands of Football Federation Australia’s interim tenure. ‘‘I told Adelaide United del Piero could be interested in the ALeague once his career with Juventus was over,’’ Pellegrini said. ‘‘But the club was cold.
‘‘Adelaide told me del Piero was too old for the A-League. I was too embarrassed to tell Paratici the answer.’’ Del Piero has become the nation’s highest- paid domestic sports star.
Sydney FC’s chief executive Tony Pignata and Melbournebased FIFA agent Lou Sticca did not have to do much convincing to raise the estimated $2.2 million oneyear wage which makes del Piero Australia’s highest-paid player. . It’s understood at least four major companies will invest in del Piero, with the Italian set to earn the Sky Blues a handsome fiscal return.
Del Piero’s presence is also destined to better football relationships between Italy and Australia, with more than 850,000 Australians having Italian ancestry.
Adelaide officials last night would not confirm whether del Piero was offered to the club. It's laughable that Val wrote an article based on the comments of Diego Pellegrini who was dumped from the club due to reasons like this. It's all a case of he-said-she-said. I guess it kinda makes sense in that Carusca surely cant be ready for these 2 quarter finals games and it seems we can get a 30 minute cameo out of Jeronimo if we need something different up front...

Quote:Stars to sit out Reds' Asian Champions Leaget Val Migliaccio The Advertiser September 11, 2012 1:10PM Newly signed Adelaide United recruit Marcelo Carrusca won't suit up for the Reds in their Asian Champions League clash. Picture: Sarah Reed Source: The Advertiser ADELAIDE United has written off at least four stars including new Argentine signing Marcelo Carrusca for next week's AFC Champions League quarter-final clash. Carrusca and fellow new signings Jero Neumann, Fabio Ferreira and Zenon Caravella won't face Bunyodkor at Hindmarsh in the first leg of the knockout clash on September 19, coach John Kosmina said. "We're not going to push them back too quick," Kosmina said after the Reds trained at Hindmarsh before facing Central Coast at home from 7.30pm tomorrow. "Same with Zenon Caravella you can try and force players back in but it achieves absolutely nothing. "So an opportunity to rest people and we'll get them right because as much as it as about the ACL, Marcelo, Jeronimo, Zenon and Fabio are here for the A-League, which is our bread and butter as well." Osama Malik is also a doubtful starter for the international club clash but will come off the bench against the Mariners, Kosmina added. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/soccer/stars-to-sit-out-reds-asian-champions-leaget/story-fnddhv0x-1226471838882 Reading between the lines, I think Kossie doesn't want to swap out Carrusca for Jeronimo as he won't be able to switch back if we make the Semi or beyond.

Players in the ACL squad can be replaced due to injury, by tomorrow. Once that squad is settled on, then that's final. No more changes for the rest of the knock-out stage.
I don't think Kossie will change Carrusca for Jeronimo as Carrusca will probably be more of an asset in November when we win the Final at Hindmarsh.

Is there any reason that on the FFA website there is no link to an AUFC web-shop, when all other clubs have one? Not that I'm interested in buying something; I just noticed there was a team missing.
