COOPERS Stadium will be transformed into a sea of red.

Owner Adelaide Entertainments Corporation is upgrading all of the 15,500 seats, all in red, as part of a $4 million facelift for the home of SA soccer.

Corporation chief executive Anthony Kirchner also says up to $800,000 per year has been saved by taxpayers since the company had become stadium bosses last year.

The upgrade will be funded by AEC’s operating profits as tenders for the proposed red seating closed last Thursday.

Kirchner says the stadium’s changerooms will also be upgraded.

“Projects currently underway include new seating throughout the stadium, new food and beverage outlets in the Eastern Entry plaza,’’ Kirchner said.

“And an additional lift (elevator) to service the top level of the western grandstand.

“Other projects to be undertaken are a $400,000 upgrade to the player change room facilities and further upgrades to existing food and beverage outlets throughout the stadium.

“Coopers Stadium is a significant public asset that belongs to the people of South Australia, not a privately owned football club.

“We’ve been charged with the responsibility of improving the stadium’s financial performance and upgrading the stadium’s facilities.

“We’re doing both of these things.”

Adelaide United has been charged about $481,000 for 13 A-League games this season which is still the lowest rental among the eight other Australian-based clubs.

“It’s the best venue hiring deal in the A-League, with comparable franchises paying an average of $66,500 (excluding GST) per event day,’’ Kirchner said.

“An independent report commissioned by the State Government stated that Adelaide United paid approximately $32,500 per event day for the 2011/12 season.

“So far in the 2013/14 season, Adelaide United has paid an average of $36,600 per event day, which represents an increase of 12.6 per cent.”

:shock: That is so weird, I was thinking about the red seat thing just the other day, anyway good news, just a bit worried about this:

Meaning they are going to use it for many other things.

Is probably the most stupidest quote that has probably come out of the governments mouth.

Its a football stadium it would probably explain why they wont let united manage the place themselves,

Labours powerbrokers are historically rooted in the corridors of the SANFL backrooms and they have done their big spend on sports by investing in Adelaide oval.

Steven Marshall is a football person, has been involved in Adelaide city and his kids are in the junior ranks there though he has been shunned somewhat for his public support of AUFC.

They threw in the red seats to appease the masses while secretly they know they will be using the Pitch for concerts/festivals etc to make money. Why the hell shouldn't it be in the hands of a Football club? They practically gifted Adelaide oval to the Crows/Port! Are they not private clubs too?

They're not because they're owned by the members of the club (or will be, right now they're owned by the SANFL which is a member based organisation). Something AU are trying to nurture as they've said numerous times it's hard to get government grants when you're owned by a consortium of some of Adelaide's richest.

Yeah looks about right, there have been rumours McKain won't be offered a new contract though.

Josep Gombau says contract offers have been made to Marcel Carrusca and Jon McKain as Adelaide United look to tie down the future of two key men.
Argentine playmaker Carrusca and central defender McKain, both out of contract at the end of the season, are considering the deals presented to them by the Coopers Stadium outfit.
